At the risk of sounding ungrateful (I love you guys!), I have to say the crowd at Frida Hyvonen's show at Bush Hall last night was desperately glamorous. Urbane Swedish-speaking Finns and, errm, Swedes. Frida was splendid, channeling Laura Nyro and Dory Previn with a heavy dose of dry Scandi humour. Why Do You Love Me So Much is my song of the year this far. And I might be in love with her bassist.

Oops I did it again... I probably shouldn't say such rash things... it's lovely to be on the BBC entertainment news front page and all, and if I had Seb Coe's home number I'd have been on the blower long ago, telling how that there's no reason why darts shouldn't be an Olympic sport... but I was kidding about asking him if we can write the Olympic anthem (if he asked us we wouldn't say no, you understand).

We're hopeful that Method Of Modern Love might nudge the Top 40 next week. Everything's crossed. Buy one for your mum!

Chances are it won't be number one. I've undertaken a project to listen to every number one from this decade, one a day. It started ignominiously with Westlife's I Have A Dream, and has so far included one song of which I have no recollection (Geri Halliwell's Bag It Up, presumably a warning to dog walkers). Yesterday it was Oxide & Neutrino's Bound 4 Da Reload which sounds brilliant and hilarious at 9 years distance. Probably just as well we're snowed out of the studio today, or who knows what retro-futurist direction we'd be heading in.
