Who Gives Kudos:

Friday, January 04, 2008

Once again, I would like to thank everyone who has downloaded my MAN IN THE MIRROR dedication album, and I know that you are enjoying Hip-Hop as it is intended to be heard.

This album was made because I am a fan of not only Michael Jackson, but of great music, in general.  I have been listening [recently] to some of the remixes of MJ's 25th anniversary of THRILLER, and my analysis is that they're... aight... but personally, as a fan, I expected a bit more.  I put my heart into this shit and took a risk to bring you an edgy, creative, refreshing perspective of Michael Jackson in rare form.

He is the muthafucking King of Pop, man!  He is the father of any artist you perceive to be a pop star, running around the music industry today.  Mike has a chance [with his new project] to show his children how it should be done.

I feel as though [right now] everybody is playing it safe.  You know:  the regular cast of characters.  I would love to speak to Michael Jackson as a fan to say "One album.  One producer.  Two, at most."

Anything else runs the risk of sounding like a mixtape.  Remember:  I'm only speaking as a fan.

I mean, damn:  how hot would it be to hear Michael Jackson over a Just Blaze track or a Dap Kings instrumental?  Hell, even The Roots?  With Timbaland at the helm as the executive producer?  That's the edginess I'm talking about.  I know this may never happen, but a rapper can dream, can't he?

I don't, however, believe that my desire to meet with the king should be restricted to just a dream.  And for this, I need your help.

I would like to meet Michael Jackson.  And hopefully, all of you will make enough noise about this dedication album to reach his ears high on the throne.  I would like to reenact our 'cipher' skit live on camera.

I would like to ask him some real questions, respectfully, that I know no one has ever asked him.  Naw.  Matter of fact, you know what?  I am going to meet Michael Jackson, so please stay tuned as I petition through letters, blogs and public pleas to meet one of the greatest musicians of our time, Michael Jackson!

dang Festo, it is rare to find an MC with so much integrity and passion. i too agree with what you said about the "Thriller" remixes--they're just OK. they really should have gone all out, instead of trying to find the biggest names at the time. even in '82, i wouldn't have thought that Quincy Jones would become responsible for the biggest album in pop music history. Michael was simply interested in making the best music he possibly could. today, it's all about them trends and popularity. sad.

i think Mike will hear about your project. it's only a matter of time. maybe this project (and future meeting) will lead to greater musical endeavors for the both of you. maybe you could lead him to Mark Ronson? how crazy would those songs sound?

thanks again for the project. it's nice to have someone to really look up to in hip-hop.

peace.

Nathaniel means Gift from God

All you gotta do is ask Clive Davis to hook you up. Or do a song with Jackie Jackson artist he's developing. Better yet do a pilgrimage to Kuwait, Give them a show and I know personally that they have the money and the power to put Michael in the same room in front of you. Little do Americans know that they love hip-hop and R the riches humans on the Planet (period)! You know what, let me be your manager I know I can hook you up.
And That's A FACT!!!!

Been Told

Man I can totally feel what you're saying. Both in regards to the edginess as well asking Michael some RESPECTFUL questions that nobody ever asks him.
I mean, why is nobody asking the greatest star of music today about how he makes music? How he produces stuff, how he writes. I mean there have been little steps towards that with some interviews, but it was so minimal... All people want to know about is personal stuff and scandals... And I really hope you do meet him some day soon. I think you'd really be able to say a few things that some of us fans have been agonizing over in the last months. Good luck!!!

I aint gone lie, i aint even about to attempt to read this blog, cause i dont think it'll be of my interest... but I just wanna say that i'm loving the mixtape fest! I wasn't really feeling the album, dont know what happened there but this is the the type of drive, intensity and energy i was expecting from you with it! I was having the worst case of writers block until i heard this, no bullshit!!! You gave me inspiration and reassured that my direction with my music has an audience and is well needed!

if you're gonna meet him, let me tag along with you please haha. Michael is an incredible person. He'll schedule you in if he knows you want to meet him. Thank you for showing him the recognition and love he deserves. I really have so much respect for you. And thank you for bringing back that hip hop that has been missing for a long ass time. But back to Mike, he's larger than life, but he'll do anything for his fans.
In the words of Steve Harvey: "Usher, put your shirt back on. Because the King of Pop is BACK!"
