Recently, a prominent Hip-Hop website asked an artist who they supported in the 2008 presidential primaries. Shockingly, their response was Hillary Clinton. Now, I'm not one to judge a person's political, religious or [even] artistic views; however, the reasons that this artist gave were so fucking erroneous and outrageous that it compels me to speak out, even if only to give fans the right information so that we are not following uninformed-ass rappers down the hole of 'abstract nothingness.'

First of all, the facts:

Barack Obama has stated he is not opposed to military action against Iran if they were persistent in their ambitions to obtain nuclear weapons; weapons being the operative word. However, he also states that as president, he plans to talk to Iran without preconditions about certain assurances in the context of them showing some good faith, as well. Barack Obama stated "I think it is important for us to send a signal that we are not hell-bent on regime change, just for the sake of regime change, but expect changes in behavior. And there are both carrots and there are sticks available to them for those changes in behavior." This clearly does not describe the agenda of a candidate who supports 'the bombing of Iran and all that stuff.'

I would be very interested to know if this particular artist even knows what Hillary Clinton's position is pertaining to military action against Iran; and, no, I'm not giving him the answer.

Barack Obama being the only Black senator from Illinois automatically gives me a sense of pride and appreciation for his journey. Of course, for America to be flipped on its axis with a qualified woman president would be a significant milestone in this chapter of our country's history. But, I fail to see how a qualified Black man as president wouldn't be just as significant a milestone. Please, to all artists who dare to speak on political issues in this election: understand that Barack Obama won the Iowa caucus by inspiring more young people and women to vote than any previous presidential candidate. How could it not be impressive to see the new Bobby Kennedy of our day in the White House?

In the words of Gabriel when he revealed the Holy Qur'an to the prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) in the cave: "READ." Please do not let your arrogance be the fuel for your ignorance.

Peace,

Fest a/k/a EL CHE

Kikuchiyo

I couldn't be more stoked that Obama won Iowa. He's got character, not the political viciousness that's run our system up and down for so long.

It seems to me fest and many others are biased in their decision because the man is black. You are not upset by the stand, you are "shockingly" upset being a black man from chi supports a white woman from arkansas over another black man from chi. I am in full support for Barack but it bothers me how certain black people only support the man not on his issues, but because of the color of his skin. What if he had the same stance on the issues and his name was Jose Ortiz? Would you still back him? Would Oprah? We as a nation need to be together and not separate and if we continue to think this, we will continue to fall apart. And Clinton's stance? To seek direct talks with Tehran. Mrs Clinton said that Iran must not be allowed to build or acquire nuclear weapons. She is quoted as saying "“if we do have to take offensive military action against Iran, it would be far better if the rest of the world saw it as a position of last resort, not first resort, because the effect and consequences will be global.” Where all the other candiates have been scared to truely touch the issue. So please people, when you vote, do it for the right reasons. I know looks matter in todays world. No one would buy an album from Jessica Simpson if she were a 300 pounder, but this is our nation we are dealing with and that is not something you can just vote on superficially.

Thats a Bull Sh!t argument and I'm offended ya wrote it (funny that a white dude is the first to mention race in an interracial inter-gender political campaign). As Cornel West has duly noted in America RACE MATTERS. However The man's response is not centered around race, but rather correct information, If Barack's race is A reason my man Rhymefest supports him more power to him organizational support throughout history has been founded on much more tenuous connections, that is the nature of community, identity, ideological affiliation.

Hillary is a worthy candidate, but lets not front objectivity on your part and subjectivity on Rhymefest's part when its pretty obvious who your bias is. The heart of of 'Fest's response is to attack an ignorant statement (which he deliberately left unnamed, but you could not to make your point) that even I noted was made in ignorance a few days ago. This is not about image, one of the main reasons black candidates in the past failed so badly was that they were heavy on image and not on content. PLease if your goal is an objective and more DEMOCRATIC exchange than lets not Yell RACE and point the finger lets talk politics, content, comunity.

In peace and Love

There's something about Barack Obama that sits well with my spirit. Ha! And ya girl has got that discernment, ya dig, lol...

Seriously...

He's already on the forefront. Why not go all out for this man???!!! You say Bobby Kennedy, ok cool, and he also reminds me of a modern day Malcolm X. He reminds me of my dad, some uncles, he's...idk...he's EVERYTHING a president is SUPPOSED to be. He's the ONLY president I've ever wanted to meet. America just isn't used to someone in Barack's position coming off as genuine as he does. It's too good to be true...maybe *shrugging shoulders*...

Change is a scary thing. Not everyone can adjust. But, they better! Well, I hope they do.

totally feel you on that fest. when i talk to damn near everyone i know none of them say they're voting for obama. whats crazy is none of them can give me a good reason why. it's not even about if america is ready for a black president it's about are we as black people ready for it. when i hear obama speak, he sounds so passionate about making america a better place. i've never heard any candidate speak about the issues poor people face and actually wanting to change them the way he does. most people want to vote for hilary just because of bill. dont get me wrong, i like bill clinton just as much as the next guy but they already had 8 years in the white house. it's time someone else had a chance. alot of people i ask also think he'll get assasinated as soon as he's elected so they don't want to waste thier vote. i highly doubt it but you still have some crazy crackers out there who might attempt something like that. anyway i'm definitely voting for him. p.s. rhymefest for vice president

salaams Fest, first off let me start by sayin' if i was an artist i would be tryna model my tactics after yours. you're people oriented and i dig that. to me ya "campaign" is flawless so keep it up. and man in the mirror is crazy, musta listened like 8 times in the first day. also i need some El Che bruh fo real, fo real.

I understand where you comin from on this blog but i've seen barack in person and he didn't seem that dynamic to me. mad people (especially black people) were out there in their sunday's finest and they were cheerin a man on whom i felt said absolutely nothin' other than what EVERY other candidate says. now i'm not bashin' anyone cuz i feel like people gettin out and being a part of causes and being excited about movement is excellent but as the phrase goes "if you stand for nothing, you'll fall for anything" and i feel passionate about the fact that most people have no clue what this man or any other candidate is about. why? because politics and voting (to me at least) is a castration. it stops people from actually having to do anything for themselves except go to a poll for ten minutes. and i've delved in politics before and the shit is not for people, it's a popularity game, same as any other game (rap game, drug game, football; you name it) whomever plays the role well enough wins and i might have considered barack if i didn't believe he was simply in the game but there to change the game. i'm not voting...i just don't believe it has the effect we all wanna believe it has. for every one time someone's voted and actually changed somethin', there's a thousand where someone actually got off they ass and actually forced the issue and created change. name one time in this country where the vote did more than the actual movement. nowadays its portrayed as if the voting does more than the movement so after we vote we go back home and expect that person to make the change for us that we should in fact be makin'. ghandi ain't say "let hillary be the change you wanna see in the world". if we weigh too heavily on this process we will lose, that's what the powers want; for us to think that second of voting actually did more than we could do ourselves. its their process therefore it continues to show that it only needs you to believe you did somethin, all that while showin you indirectly that you did nothin'. now i'm not one for just talk; hell i work for greenpeace so right now i'm out there tryna find/create the next revolution/movement that will help however possible; i just don't believe votin is it whether it be a black man or a woman.

I believe i know what artist you speak of and i ain't here to defend but i gotta feelin' the answer is more about not voting and what would seem interesting without said person's vote so i if i'm lookin from that angle (as a person who's not voting as well) i understand the comment. i don't know which would be more revolutionary barack or hillary but i like to think of it this way: if we are to follow the prophet (saw) than we know that he would have never voted for such a situation. he would have put his foot forward and enjoined all that is good and forbade all that is evil (and Allah know best). 'iqra' also means to proclaim which also means to denoucw or prohibit publicly; which we all must learn to do.

May Allah bless you bountiful so you can keep up the work. you're an inspiration. Salaams

unfortunately, there are just 2 many 'dumb' people that complain about a system that
doesn't fit them well but are not willing to make a change by getting informed about this years presidential election and giving their votes.
i don't think that most people realise how big of a deal this is and
that this election will be a huge milestone in history.
the whole world is sitting tense infront of papers and tv hoping that america will
make the right choice. we would do anything if we could contribute our vote.

neither of us has the right to judge a persons believe or position.
but i hope people won't be simply stupid and just vote without thinking about
how deciding his single vote can be.

i'm crossing all my fingers and hope to see Barack Obama
making a change in the white house.

I think you are completely right on your thoughts/fact about Obama but what I would want the world to know is more about Bill Richardson, I think Richardson would be a great president but the only problem is that he isn't known enough, probally half off the voters don't know who he is. The only three you hear of are Obama, Hillary, and Edwards. It's the same problem that happend in the last election with Kucinich, he would of been a way better president the Bush obviously and I think possibly Al Gore too in my opinion but nobody knew about him. On the other hand, sine I know Bill Richardson will not make because of lack of popularity, I cans till hope. Even though Obama is against bombing in Iran, He never really made any strong statement about immigration which is almost as high up as the war right now. Bill Richardson made a statement about immigration that he would take down this border and if you were/are in my same thoughts about immigration then you would think his choice is very wise.

I love what he is saying and I support it, maybe he doesn't believe what Obama is saying, who knows and who cares. The only thing that should matter is YOU!! because in the end, 1 vote won't matter. The cynic in me says, "it doesn't matter who the president is" because power will do as power pleases and Obama as likeable as he is, carries little clout. The patriot act is still here, homeland security is still here. Dick Cheney is not gonna retire or anything, he'll just slip out of the public eye and keep on keepin on. I really don't think any of you people have a clue how this country works because if you did you'd be rioting in the f-ing streets by now, without question. This election year is like a good episode of American Idol. Pick your favorite flavor and bum rush the phone lines. Choose candidates based on how they make you feel because that's about all we can get our heads around, then it's back to our favorite episode of Tila Tequila or our favorite blog. It's fun to watch people act like this shit makes a difference. Good luck to you, I hope I'm wrong and he's the answer to all our prayers. The only positive thing I see coming out of Obama being elected is perhaps it will give black people a sense of pride and solidarity and they'll stop killing each other more. Peeeeeeece.

I feel like fest is mad because somebody didn't agree with his view...almost sounds like you're voting based on skin color. You question the other persons view and just because he doesn't want to vote at all you bash him even though he encourages to vote on a local level. Im not protecting anyone because i like both artists but he said what he feels and you said what you feel...why is it wrong for him not to vote black? I don't like both candidates, Obama just sounds like he's repeating the same ol' same and Hillary cant answer a question (cant get an answer out of her...ever). I'm not democrat, I'm not liberal, I'm not republican, I'm not conservative, I'm a US citizen who wants a person to look out for our interests not just mine. I cant nitpick the candidates, they will never please everybody so i choose what issues I'm most concerned about and decide on that. The reason we have a chance to vote is to give our opinion, we give our opinion because of our rights...don't knock the man's opinion. i respect yours, respect everyone else's

Fest told that man to have his facts correct before he started talking. and that in iteslf is so real. I had someone send me some hate mail bcuz they found out I was for obama.....how crazy is that....I think some whites are more afraid of a black president than some blacks WANT a black president. How do you feel about the BET special on Obama? Do you feel like its condescending to his plight?? 'What's in it for us' I found the title and the fact that they ONLY interviewed Obama offensive. This late in the campaign it makes no sense to 'confront' a democratic presidential candidate without also subjecting all the other democratic candidates. I see it as black people being counter-productive and even if Obama looks great it will be in question that the interview was unnecessary and not politically relevant. fuck cousin 'uncle tom' jeff!!!!

Great thought-provoker!

Sometimes, I wonder if the things that artists support publicly are guided by their need to excel in a capitalistic society. If our livelihood depends on the support of the masses (especially the retail buying public) wouldn't one be hell-bent to cater to the beliefs of said group. I will publicly state that I'm breaking rank to vote for Senator Obama on TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 5th here in Illinois. Still I have to be mindful that I can lose support in my network for doing what I believe is right. Sometimes our views aren't always black and white but GREEN.

Political Note: If you live in Michigan and want to vote for Senator Barack Obama in the primaries, voters will have to write in

Ok Fest, I know who your talking about and I agree, his comments were so off mark, I was almost shocked to see that those words came out of his mouth. It was like the cat was watching too much fox news...but you know what, I'm sorry, I thought Lupe was a smart man but after what he said, I believe homeboy needs to be schooled on the lessons of what's going on today in politics. Yes Obama voted YES on supporting funds for this war. Why? Well basically to support the troops. He didn't support the War but you have to support the funds for the troops. Now in regards to Lupe's claims, man, where the hell did he get his info. Lupe, state your sources. I use to think you were smart but man, even my 10 year nephew had to correct you. Dog, don't speak on things you don't know because if you do, a lot of people would be dumbing you down....Think before you speak man. Our past black leaders died to give you equal rights as whites, and the last thing you don't do is vote but you feel like you can have an opinion on it. Man, you shouldn't have anything to say about nothing involving politics cousin. Regarding OBAMA, man, do your research cousin. This man went and worked in the slums of Chi-town after Law School and the best you can do is give mis-information on the man. Lupe, YOU SUCK, and its simple as that. Take off those glasses and stick to rap because your level of awareness and what's going on in the world is so off mark. BTW, I'm removing his song from my page because I feel dumb having it there....

Un Bi Assed

During this election year you will be bombarded with

different sound bits of persuasive rhetoric, propaganda, manipulation, seduction, deception, lopsided perspectives etc. all appealing to your sense of reason and emotions.

Consider each Candidate as a horny man hungry to score, (perhaps had a bit to drink) and you're the object of his desires.

Your most powerful defense here is Critical Thinking which is, according to Webster: "The mental process of discernment, analysis and evaluation in order to form a solid

judgment."

You will have some internal and external barriers to overcome when attempting to apply this process of discernment.

Some common internal and external obstacles are:

Natural prejudices, biases, egocentrism, socialcentrism, comfort zone consensus thinking, distortions, self deceptions, tunnel vision, lopsided perspectives, misinformation, unreliable information, knowledge gaps logic gaps and a wide range of foggy emotions.

A lot of the above mentioned are often manifested in the following recognized ways

Appeal to ignorance.

Argues that some claim is true because it cannot be proven to be false, or the opposite: that some claim must be false because it cannot be proven to be true.

Ex: No one has proved that animals don't dream, so it must be true.

Slippery slope.

If the first step in a "possible" series of events occurs, the other possible steps in the series must inevitably occur.

Ex: Once someone uses an illegal drug like marijuana, they will become heroin addicts eventually.

False alternatives.(also known as False Dilemma)

This involves "either/or" (black or white) thinking in which some classification is presumed to be exclusive or exhaustive, such as when we overlook the alternatives that

exist between the extremes of two poles.

Ex: Any experience that does not kill you will make you stronger.

Hasty generalizations.

If we tend to form a general conclusion based on an exceptional case, or on a very small sample, or on a biased sample, we may have over-generalized.

Ex: I know that boys raised by single mothers are effeminate, because that's what happened to my cousin Michael.

Questionable analogies.

We may sometimes try to compare apples to oranges, or try to make two situations seem more similar that they are.

Ex: When you put a bridge girder under too much stress, it breaks. The same thing happens with people.

Why do we have to deal with all these natural barriers?

Our mind though very powerful is imperfect and subject to error and deceptive illusion, also because thinking and emotions go hand in hand. We are not a society of Vulcan's.

We are emotionally logical creatures and emotions/feelings have a very significant affect on our rational.

The interactions and affects between feeling and thinking are vastly complex involving self-concept/self esteem issues, positive and negative past experiences and so many other

things that are way beyond the scope of this article.

Our emotions and feelings certainly must be considered and examined however we must appeal to rational reasoning as our ultimate guide. Recognizing what impairs our decision making abilities and knowing that emotions can often cloud our reasoning is half the battle towards making more objective un-bias judgments.

"The more I learn the more I see how dumb I really am". is one of my favorite quotes as it so perfectly describes my own personal experience. Humility is one very important key to wisdom.

As we walk through life we must be honest and humble enough to examine our faulty thinking patterns and eliminate to the best of our ability all that hinders us from reasoning at the highest level of quality in a fair-minded way.

Risk humiliation by asking why to everything not blatantly evident while maintaining an unbiased openness using critical examination from creditable sources of information

including all opposing view points.

Treat candidates more as witnesses on the stand, to be examined and cross examined with a mind purged as much as possible (by awareness) from all the common barriers discussed above.

The majority of us are relativity equal in terms of cognitive ability. I believe the big difference is that we are more often taught what to think than how to think.

You will have your own unique set of criteria to base your

decisions on this election. Listen to your emotions yet appeal to your logic. Don't get screwed by the wrong person.

"Barack Obama has stated he is not opposed to military action against Iran if they were persistent in their ambitions to obtain nuclear weapons; weapons being the operative word."

The United States, nor no other nation has the "legal" right to be for military action against Iran or any other nation in the world solely on the basis of an ambition to obtain nuclear weapons.

If the U.S. is so against countries in general, & nations of the middle east in particular, obtaining nuclear weapons (or other weapons of mass destruction biological & chemical included); then it should first go to the nation of Israel our 1 ally (in the heart of the middle east) which has biological, chemical, & NUCLEAR WEAPONS & force them to dismantle them or not be opposed to invading them or using military action against them. Why is it alright for a jewish nation to have all 3 forms of WMD & only be rewarded with billions of dollars in aid per year from the United States. While the U.S. foreign policy has been to alienate & attempt to dissuade any muslim nation in the same region from developing their own nukes to counteract the Israeli threat & create a nuclear deterrent of their own.

Furthermore, the U.S. is at a disadvantage or trying to play the moral high ground on the nuclear issue, period! The United States is the only country that has actually used nuclear weapons bombing, burning & obliterating the Japanese people of Nagasaki & Hiroshima. Being the only country guilty of such an act of using Weapons of Mass Destruction, diminishes your capacity to play the moral high ground on nuclear issues for the rest of the world.

Barack is no RFK. RFK had a record to stand on. Barack has a ton of rhetoric... but show me his U.S. senate record & point out to me what is impressive about it? What vote, what actions as part of Senate have been groundbreaking (other than the fact that he's black & he's there). But, please don't think he automatically represents you or your best interests simply because he shares your skin color. So does Clarence Thomas. His record as a U.S. senator has been less than impressive, with much of that time spent on looking toward the white house.

Barack purchases adjoining property to that of Tony Rezko's & his wife knowing full well he was under federal investigation & soon to be indicted. In fact Rezko's wife soon sold Obama a slab of that land to increase his yard size. Barack later admitted to this move being a mental boo-boo, & called it "boneheaded." What makes you so sure that somebody that doesn't exercise good judgement on a personal or family level; would do so on a national level where their potential bone-headedness would have much larger ramifications.

Now if you think Obama's the best candidate based off of him being the lesser or two (check that many) evils, then that's fine. But, if think Obama is the MOST QUALIFIED, I ask you how so? What has he done that says that's the case? Because he was against the Iraq war? Now he's in Senate voting to fund that very same war. Isn't it funny that 73% of Americans want us out of this war. & all of our major frontrunning presidential candidates are for perpetuating it, funding it, none for immediate unequivocal withdrawal of U.S. forces? Obama (in since '04) & the other U.S. congressman & women (mid-term elections of 06) were sent there by the people as a mandate to end this occupation. Dry up the funds, stop funding the war. Bush can't fight a war with no money to fight it. & the people will be so outraged if he tries to keep it going anyway, & be so outraged he'll have no choice. BUt, the democratic senators (Hillary & Barack included) won't call his bluff & put HIS war in his lap. It's his war. The democratic senators have showed no backbone in standing up to his bullying tactics. Dry up the money, have some backbone. If they can't stand up to George W. Bush, one of the most inarticulate people of our time. How would they stand up for us, or anything else a president should stand for.

I can tell you one thing...Bobby Kennedy (RFK) would have never been bullied or punked, & definitely not intimidated or out thought by Bush.

To my man JR below...DUDE...

If you was black...you may understand why blacks want a BLACK MAN. When we been dragged on this turf and tossed into miles of QUICK SAND.
The effects from slavery still EXIST...some black people are voting for Barack because we still PISSED.
Not to mention the fact that bush is a white as it GETS...and that motherfCka had 8 years and aint do $hit.
Watch Barack speak he is like modern day KING...we been living in a nightmare, why don't you let a brotha DREAM.
I mean, I really didn't want a black man to take his seat like THIS...America's in so much debt we aint got a pot to PISS.
But it's obvious some $hit has to CHANGE...things being the SAME...will drive the world INSAIN.
Why can't blacks wanting a black man be ALRIGHT...look at all the past presidents...they've all been WHITE.
Blacks didn't blame you for voting white all these YEARS...so if my man Barack wins I am about to celebrate in CHEERS, BEERS, and TEARS!
It is something you dont get because you are the MAJORITY...go overseas for your life and live as the MINORITY...
Then tell me how you feel when it comes to being HEARD...you can talk with a horn and no one hears one WORD.
So this vote is for my ancestors not to DISS YOU...not to mention that Barack kills Hilary on every ISSUE.

Oh...my bad RHYMEFEST...I forgot to say in my post above...I agree with you 1,000%. Keep doing your thing fam. I am hype that someone is speaking out. It is a shame that Blacks can't favor each other because society makes it a race issue. So if we can't vote for the black guy because he is black and if we vote for the white guy/gal our own folks have said we sold out... Then who the hell we gonna vote for? Sometimes I think people don't want us at the poll anyway. But forget it...I'm riding out for BARACK. RHYMEFEST SPEAKS THE TRUTH!

Obama is a brilliant man and the BEST person for the job. Alot of people need to educate themselves on Barack Obama to find out who he is and what he stands for. A simple GOOGLE search (for the lazy) only takes a second. He is so much more than "a black man running for president". I've followed this campaign very closely and this is personal for me and many others. Barack IS the nominee now and it's well deserved. This is hard to swallow for alot of Hillary supporters who are now claiming that if Hillary isn't offered the VP spot, they will vote for McCain. Talk about a flip flop! A TRUE democrat would not go against their own party...only a TRAITOR would. What these cry babies need to realize is that if you turn around and vote for McCain, you are also going against your beloved Hillary because she is a DEMOCRAT remember? Although sometimes I can't tell what side she's on. Hillary Clinton has been very divisive, unethical, and unstable or bi-polar (as some would call it) throughout this whole thing and she is the reason why the democratic party is greatly divided at this time. While us democrats are bickering with eachother, the Republicans are sitting back laughing and having beers. And No, let me re-phrase that, HELL NO I do not feel she should get the VP spot because she will always try to undermine Obama and she clearly has no respect for him. And she can't get her husband Bill to shut the hell up which is also what hurt her. Billhary does not need to be in the white house stirring up trouble because we ALL know Bill would try to call the shots as well. Lastly, there have been alot of people who left Clinton's campaign to join Obama's so I'm sure he's been provided with inside information that will help him decide.
Ya'll better accept the fact that it's the BLACK HOUSE now! We in here!!! Remember MLK!

I've read alot of people's comments on this blog, and I honestly ask every African American person who supports Obama...how many of you would still rally behind Obama if he was not Black?I mean, honestly? We can all say that we love his policies and he understands where poor Black people are coming from,yadda,yadda,yadda.But...honestly...if Obama was Middle Eastern,or Asian,or even Latino, which is closer to Blacks than we wanna believe, how many of us would vote for him then?Same policies, same message, but take away the Black skin and would you still feel the same?I think that every Black person who looks at Obama as the messiah for 400 years of grief for African Americans in this country should ask themselves that honest question for real!If Obama is indeed elected, what are WE as African Americans willing to do to help this man fullfill his so-called promise to us?Or better yet,do we honestly believe that by having an African American man in the White House that the United States will turn into one big utopia for Black people and disinfranchised people of color in general?I mean honestly...if we don't start with self change, how can we change the history of White Amerikkka and it's "racist" thought process against Blacks and other minorities? The doors of grassroot movements to change the Black communities have always been open...but for some reason as a people most of us refuse to go through it!Don't let your support for Obama be a repeat of the Willie Lynch Syndrome that we can't seem to shake!Do your research and then vote accordingly! If you don't believe in the voting process then make a difference in your own communities enough as to develope a leader for the people to honestly vote on!We do have the power...WE just have to believe that we do!Peace!-Will
