Current mood:  disappointed
Category: Music
It has come to my attention that the link to the Mia Bocca Video no longer works on my site. This is due to Prince's NPG Records copyright infringement whatever. I am saddened by this particularly as this song was jointly worked on. As I recall calling various Italian restaurants to get the direct translations for what we wanted to say. That being said, we ended up getting several busboys I think who were Mexican and well Italian and Mexican...not the same. :-)LOL I was constantly corrected in Italy about my Bad Italian. (Only in fun tho')
Personality, Ego and the Essence of a man. Which one is he? Being in the world and not of it, is difficult.

All I can say at the moment is,

It's a shame that even an artist associated with his music can't share it.
Saddness.

Oh my goodness - so Prince and his Websherriff are also going after former colleagues now? That's so sad, pathetic and ridiculous!

As a fan, it makes you wonder what all this is about...

Well, don't let it spoil your day - things like this aren't worth it...

Enjoy your day - in spite of everything! :-)

Love & hugs,

Jill, it is what it is and Prince (Thinks) he rules the internet with this so called Iron clad fist.. its' VERY frustrating.....
But KNOW this... many of of have been fans of u since day one.... including alllll the other Paisley Park acts.... Prince maybe....WHatever... about his Paisley days..but you DO know that those of us who have been around since day one have the cassettes, the video tapes, the 12 Inch singles ect, that we have transfered to CD, DVD.. digital all the way, which is convienent... Its sad what Prince does with "his" work.... but you're still appreciated, just as much for your input today.
You got my back I'm sure as well as many others.. I think its proper time to thank you, the Jill Jones album Dominated my car's cassette deck for a great part of my high school years...so soulful, so funky... Just ultimately cooool.. Just having your presence is Still enuff for me.. maybe because its easy to just pull out my Jill Jones CD and press play. Which seriously...sounds better on my speakers then on my laptop :)

Jill, I will have love for u and your music forever, regardless of what Prince wants left of his legacy and yours. Much respect and love.

I just don't get it. I was threatened and warned by Myspace that I was in violation of posting some of his music as well. I can't tell you how many times people were turned on to music they had never heard before because they were able to sample it from my page. Just as I have come across so much music in the same way myself. I absolutely understand if someone is selling and attempting to make a profit from an artist's creations. But simply posting for others to see? In essence, I am advertising for them!! Last time I looked Myspace was free. Oh, but I guess in court he would try to prove that his mere presence ads revenue to Myspace via its advertisers. Give me a break Kid!

I was done with it when I heard about Prince suing someone that posted a video that had a little kid dancing with one of his songs playing on the tv in the background. What a joke. Anyone that can find a way to work it around in his head that something like that is a real copyright infringement, is beyond reason. But then he gives away his CD Planet Earth in the Sunday London Times.

I have to be honest, all this hasn't really spoiled the way I view of his music. Though I should now remove Prince from my list of people that I would most like to meet. While I can still find pleasure in his music and the role that it's played in the soundtrack of my life, I'm really not interested in meeting such a person. That would most likely only prove to tarnish my own image of him even further.

There is a long history of many people with genius minds eventually cracking up. It saddens me to think that this could be what we are witnessing. But that's cool. To each his own. If he chooses to go out like that, he is well on his way to making his bed in that manner.

Just keep on making new music like you are doing Jill. God bless the child thats got his own! You make it, sell it, and do with your music exactly what you wish. This is certainly a fantastic testament to the wonderful technological times in which we are in when it comes to distributing your own music. Keep steppin' sister, and don't let it break your stride!

Peace and independence,
Justin

Jill,
Hello how are you? I am sorry to hear the the video was pulled. I use to admire the work Prince has done, but here of late he seems to be lost in a world of his own. Don’t take me wrong he is a very talented person. But his actions of late have left me to question the reason. Is he deliberately trying to get his fans mad at him? You worked on that song as well you should have the right to play on your site. If he keeps this up a lot of people might not want to work with him, in fear that the work might be pulled by the NPG police.

Well you keep up the good work, love the music.

My Mother tried to justify Prince's actions by saying that he's only trying to make sure he's being rewarded for the work he's released. Bullshit. Prince has got a personal vendetta against his past legacy. Now that he's born again, he's completely doing everything to rid of his naughty past. But good songs are good songs and you and Prince made some amazing music. So it is pretty unfair and irrational of Prince to try and rid of his past glories because he wants to be a puritan or whatever.

But this is just my theory.

With all due respect to your mother, the industry has changed quite a bit. Because of multi media formats that exist. The playing field has broadened quite alot when it comes to Independent music and its artists. Case in point, Marketa Inglova & Glen Hansard's Oscar win for Falling Slowly.
Truth-The CD in itself is a Marketing tool for other branding avenues. Record companies used to be in the business of selling Vinyl & Plastic. Music was a caveat. Now no longer in the plastics business, profits are down. So owning & controlling whatever more can be extracated from an act is whats happening. Controlling what you see, hear and perhaps feel.
The industry's demand for bands to sign over a portion of their merchandise and tour revenues as part of a recording contract is an admission that selling music isn't a sustainable business model.
Career artists will always be able to hit the road and cash in on many lucrative paydays.
There is a far more serious situation going on other than his copyright argument. Though I feel that it is an unchartered area when it comes to fan loyalty and fan base expansion and illegal digital downloading. We as a nation must be very concerned that a law is enforced with fairness to all. Remember the Patriot Act?? So many laws are being considered in Congress at the moment that challenge our civil liberties. And to think that my anger is just from the standpoint, and I quote "a bitter, washed up has been of a Prince singer" is my beef? well think not! My agenda is for people to get involved and examine , truly examine what you give up in order to implement another.

Little by little, things are getting chipped away from us and people need to be aware.

Besides my album is out of print and def was not a big seller!!! Come on...

Being a Prince fan for about 28 years now I am becoming more and more disappointed in Prince's compassion for those of us who cannot afford him these days. He tries to get money out of EVERYTHING. Why would he take all of his videos off of youtube? Why doesn't he have a "normal" myspace page? What about his greedy website? I heard he was extremely arrogant and self-centered but it appears that he thinks he is above anyone who ever lived. These day's he's bordering on being "corny". His music has drastically changed and not for the good. I am a huge Prince fan and am willing to forgive for almost anything but even the haughty Prince is merely a human and a greedy, selfish one at that. This is, of course, is my own opinion but I know a bunch of people who agree with this opinion.
Jill Jones, you are an underrated, great talent. I support you in all of your ventures :) Take care.

Hello Ms Jones

I basically wanted to say that this action was just a shallow action who would have thought he would do this to a fellow protege of his. But you know what it seems that the Prince that every fan knew is not the same Prince anymore. But you know what you handled this with class and you know what I have always been a fan of his but now his work is basically garbage these days. But anyways I just wanted to say that I still listen to your debut cd on Paisley Park I always thought you were the brightest of all his proteges and the most talented and it's good to see you still doing tour thing

Peace and be well

That's a good point, it is your voice and image. There's got to be some legal loophole whereby you can bring charges against the midget-bitch -sue him for lost wages, defamation of character, or something. That asshole complains about current politics and then wants to police the Internet? He's a Nazi! Well, there you go...one more thing he has in common with Napoleon. He needs to be brought down HARD. Old skipper's elevator stopped going to the top quite some time ago. Such a fine and seminal piece of work, so vibrant, and now it's only available illegally, with no means to reach new audiences, or remind old ones.

The irony is that while commenting on the decline of major labels in the current music industry in a 2004 interview he stated, "You get the audience you deserve." And he goes around policing the Internet making people take down clips of him on YouTube and so forth. What a shame that such brilliant talent is wasted on such an egomaniac. I usually go out of my way to meet musical heroes of mine but in his case, and only his, I turned down a couple opportunities -I knew I would take an instant dislike to his arrogance and it would ruin the pleasure of listening to his records. The inferiority complex of being a midget combined with making too much money at such a young age combined in a toxic formula. He's a coward hiding behind his yes-men. If he acted like that without the paid goons he'd get his ass kicked in a New York minute. I have three words for the midget, New Power Soul. That album isn't even a good drink coaster.

BTW, good luck to him doing that shit in Japan -bootlegs are rife here. I have video from the DIRTY MIND and 1999 tours with a few old television clips thrown in as extras. Yes, there's a young lady named Jill Jones on Solid Gold singing backup on 1999. Now, when is the new Jill Jones album coming out? ;) And does she need somebody to do for her what Duane Allman did with Aretha Franklin and Wilson Pickett at Muscle Shoals? ;)

Perhaps you can host the video through another host site. ::shrugs:: Sorry about that.

For someone so talented and who has always been a major force of music in my life I am looking at him in a different way lately. A great musician and performer yes but his ego is out of control as well as his lust for money. Are you even able to discuss your messed up deal with warner brothers? That would be interesting. We always wish the best for you Jill because you still are the best artist to come from the Paisley Park label! Although I do enjoy that other lady singer too...hehehe....Truthfully you deserved better with the talent you have!

The saddest part is that it is not like he is going to make it available elsewhere...

He is becoming the very thing that he fights Warner Brothers for. Sad, very sad.

See what money does?

To be fair, he does not have a "record company" like warner brothers to defend his material anymore so he has to do it all himself. But its not about the music anymore. its about his "rights". Man, I dont care about his rights. he deserves them like anyone else does. But I am not interested in the man Prince for his rights. I am interested in his music ONLY. I fear that his art is lost from here on out. His past greatness is officially a moratorium in my mind. Much like Michael jackson, but for different reasons obviously. I guess it has to happen sometime....

I know all about his lameness when it comes to going after his fans.

You'd think he'd have better things to do like make music. Or remaster his WB tapes. Or even remaster your self titled Paisley Park release, as that's better than anything he's put out in the last 15 years.

In a way though, I'm glad he began acting like an ass, because it gave me the exit I needed to stop being such an obsessive fan and I was able to go and find out about and appreciate other artists.

I may get alot of negative feedback on my reply to this, but its all about freedom of speech.
Jill, I adore you and your music, but you gotta look at it this way.

It isn't "Prince" personally reading through myspace blogs and scanning youtube or myspace for his videos. He's a very busy man and I'm sure he wouldn't attack you.

I don't know him personally, you know him better than all of us, bcause of your work with The Man!

If he co-wrote and/or co-produced the single with you, then of course you should be entitled to keep your rights, if he wrote and produced the entire song, then its his!

We all know Prince is known as a control freak in the business for many years, so can we just move along and let him do his thing as he's alway have.

I'm sure your greatful to him for what he's contributed to your career.
He definitely introduced you to me and all of my friends, I don't think I would even know who you are if it wasn't for Prince, so let the past be the past and post new videos without Prince's contribution, because after all if your productive in your own career, then place the focus on your latest work and ditch Prince, since he's such a egotistical jerk in your eyes, you shouldn't want nothing to do with him, yet you point fingers at him for this, but still showing videos that you know associates yourself with The Man.

God Bless and Baby...this is the Dawn.

Oh, and this is what I wanted to say too: You know, the time he's taking out to make this great effort to pull all his videos of the 'net could actually be utilized in the studio. He really needs to get back in there and make some more classic music. "Planet Earth" was a very polarizing album amongst fans, so I know he can do much better than that. I mean, I liked it. It was nice of him to reunite with Wendy and Lisa and get back into his psychedelic/rock/pop side. But he could produce a better album.

Another thing is it's just unfair to be denied the right to see Prince videos on these sites. I mean, we should be entitled to see our hero and his royal subjects past achievements. Where else can you find them? MTV? VH1? BET? VH1 Classic? Maybe, but those stations hardly even play music videos anymore. They'd rather plague the airwaves with reality TV bullshit and C-list panelists talking about the celebrities du jour. I think they understand at this point that internet killed the video star. So because we look to the 'net for videos, we expect to see our favorite artists and all their glory. But I guess Prince is making that very diffficult.

I'm really trying to be patient about this, but Prince really knows how to pull the rug from under our feet. I love the man and his music too much to be too upset with him. He'll always be my 1 artist and I've pardoned him for his previous sins and flaws. But now he's really taking the cake with this one.

Ms. Jones, as the artist performing the song on the sound recording as well as in the video, it is your right to use and promote any songs from your discography in any medium you desire.

You should demand the "Mia Bocca" video be returned to your site or a monetary law suit will be filed against Web Sheriff and ALL parties involved for its illegal removal. This is an open and shut case for you. Ask your entertainment attorney. The only way to stop the Web Sheriff and open Prince's eyes is to take them to court.

Don't say, "Oh, Well" when you have the power to stop Prince's ignorance of the Internet and copyright infringement in its tracks. Stand up for your rights as an artist and your fans rights to listen and watch you perform.

It’s funny how those who didn’t create or pay for the material, is distributing it to their friends who also pass it along to other friends who didn’t pay for it, not to mention how the same music that those who didn’t pay for it, well it happens to be transferred all over the internet and

those peer-to-peer file sharing sites, but burn prince in hell for trying to profit from his very own creative art, and with that said, you all know damn well that if you were in his shoes, you’d be doing the same damn thing to protect what’s yours, so stfu and stop crying!

As for Jill Jones, I’ve also enjoyed listening to her music, but I paid for it with my own money, so I didn’t get it for free like some of her fans did, on the flip side of the whole thing, you all are crying and supporting Jill Jones situation in which is fine! But you’re only getting one side of the story, and We all know that 95% or more the artist that stem from Paisley Park are nothing more than ACTS with nothing to show except their good looks and a background singing contract, with the exception of a few.

As well, if you sign a contract with P, in which your contract is explained to you & your lawyer at the time of signing, then you should have had a smart lawyer to negotiate a deal where you can use the material at your leisure, but I would bet my life that if Jill called P at the 612 number in Chanhassen and asked for permission to use the material that she may have assisted on a few vocal arrangements for songs that were already PRE WRITTEN for her, then I’m sure that P would be elated to grant her permission, therefore , all of her fans could stop crying as if the world just stop spinning abruptly.

Most people do not like to hear the truth, so they attack what you say just like Jill’s fans have done to P, so with that said, this is not an attack on Jill, believe me it is not, I love her first album, it is on of my favorite albums to date, but on a serious note, as long as she’s been in the music business, and if she is that talented, then she should have at least made a mark in music history by now, seriously, you cant sit back and sleep on the pillows of Mia Boca for 15 years and expect every one to know who you are from that one song.

At the rate that her fans are crying in this blog like children in a candy store, one would have thought Jill was a modern day Nina Simone who’s been wrongly unjustified.

Bottom line, although I like Jill’s music, I think before going public with such a Blog like this, that she could have at least called Mr. P and explained the situation, everyone makes mistakes, and I’m sure he didn’t mean for this to happen to people like Jill, but because of online restrictions to his create art, she just got caught in the madness.

I wish you well Jill in solving this matter@Jill.

Hey Jill somebody on Prince.org made a good point and I am not sure if it was made here, you can always repost the video under a different name.. then embedded the code here in order to get it back up

: )

if you think its worth it

Wow, that's shame. I posted myself on YouTube a while back doing a meldley of "Raspberry Beret" and "The Cross" and it was taken down two days later. Prince has become paranoid. My band use to perform a song or two periodically, but now a days we don't. I even throw a yearly Prince party and I'm seriously thinkin about not doing it this year. I'm tired of arrogant people.

It's been difficult being a fan of Prince these days but I'm holding on 2 the boat. Is there anyway u can use another hosting site 4 the Mia Boca Vid Jill? I don't think things will get back 2 "normal" but I don't think this is going 2 go on another year from now.

Love u'r work, keep at it beautiful ...
