Current mood:mostly happy, but a little mixed

I am so excited Obama won!

I have to admit that when I saw the electoral college numbers pass 270, I became one of those annoying people who began sending out mass texts to everyone I know reading: "Yay, Obama won!"

Plus, now I don't have to employ my Plan B, which was to take my girl and her pug, Addy and move to an English-speaking European country (so I could still do comedy) and become an ex-Pat. I don't know how I was going to fund it, maybe one last bank job - that would have sucked, cuz you know with the current financial crisis, it would take forever those bank bitches to roll that change to put in my cartoon bag of cash.

This is the first time in a long time that I've felt hopeful about my country and not fucking hijacked. Thank you Obama and his beautifully run campaign for helping me feel that hope again. I'm proud to be an American, again. I do understand this is the beginning and there is a lot of work to do.

Talk sbout a lot more work to do.. No on 8.

Damn, that was heartbreaking to wake up to this morning and rub my eyes at the TV set, over and over. It really blows! BUT I do have faith that with Obama as our leader, with a majority in the house and senate, and with Obama appointing possibly 4 new Supreme Court Justices, that we will have some smart people interpreting the Constitution CORRECTLY and we will have marriage equality for all soon! I am certain it will be in my lifetime!

Meanwhile I can't help but think about how I think the Yes on 8 people won: THEY BROUGHT CHILDREN INTO IT! Whenever someone brings kids into anything people just immediately jump to their (KIDS) defense - as it should be for children, but NOT WHEN IT'S COMPLETE LIES AND NOT ABOUT KIDS AT ALL. The people at Yes on 8 knew this and used it in the sickest of ways to forward their ignorant agenda.

Here's a little factoid for you. Did you know that there have been studies that show that if a magazine puts a childs face on it's cover, people have a near impossible time time throwing it away or recycling it? It will sit on people's coffee tables or desks, etc. for months and even years because people absolutely hate to discard faces of children. They hate to think for a second they are hurting kids in any way, so much so they won't even recycle a fucking piece of paper.

So the lesson is =  If you want to SELL something, ANYTHING, put a child's face on it!

So here is what I suggest for a list of key goals when making a go of marriage equality next time (pretending it would be called Prop 8 again):

- Use the language style of your opponents campaign and make good use of the  word 'God' in your marketing

- Use colors like red and white, but not blue. Blue is for liberals. Besides, red is the color of GOP (which is sooo close to GOD) and it's the color of Jesus Christ's blood, who died on the cross for us.

- Use images of innocent, white babies. Note: White babies sell more than babies of color.

- Use giant text with a confusing mixed message that only leaves you feeling like you will do anything to save that white baby.

Something like this:

So maybe the way to go is to trick 'em! Trick the fucking shit out of those right-wing, Jesus freaks, who believe they are better than us! Trick those fuckers who dare dangle my rights over my head with the face of a baby, a baby that has nothing to do with my rights. Maybe that will work?

Okay, now back to my hopeful and proud place.
Love you Obama, mean it!
XOXO - Ian

Bringing children into this just shows how pathetic they really are. :( I have hope that it will be legal while Obama is in office.

As for Obama, I too am excited and happy to see someone in office that can help restore my faith. I think he will do great things for this country.

Prop 8 hasn't passed. People need to stop jumping the gun and saying it has when it has not been called because an estimated 3-4 million absentee and provisional votes haven't been counted yet. The Secretary of State is deciding how many of those votes are going to be counted and we won't know anything until tomorrow.

Do you know what "context" means? Your rant is totally illogical given the CONTEXT- humor sprinkled with perfectly logical propositions based actual facts- above. Maybe it's the sprinkling that's making it hard to follow. Here's a hint: if it sounds illogical or hypocritical, it's probably a JOKE.
And speaking of White: emotion being diamtrically opposed to reason with reason being "good" and emotion being "bad" is a White, chiefly North American cultural concept (I would add male, but I don't know the sociological research on that). Your cultural perspective is just that: a cultural perpective. Its prevalence in the US doesn't make it true.

Try living in the reddest state of them all, Texas!!! This is were i live, a place i'd like to call Hell on a stick. The Jesus freaks are here and their not going anywere for the time being. I'm so sick of the right-winged agenda that deploys the visions of George Bush and his GOD forsaken agendas. Try living were people don't accept you, because you don't play Football or watch NASCAR. ( I do watch NASCAR though, my Favorite driver is Jamie McMurray, he's from Illinos and supports Gays) Try living in a place were if you wear an earring, they look at you sideways. Thats my home, the reddest state, the hicks, the idoits, and not to mention Home of our current President, The evil, and spawn of satan himself, Goerge Bush. I 'm so happy to see a democrat in the white house, even if it isn't Hillary.

This is a response to Jim (the vapid troglodite too ashamed to share "his" photo):

We're NOT second class Citizens? Oh praise Buddha! I think I'll go right down to City Hall with my Partner and get a Marriage Licen... oh that's right, WE CAN'T! Oh fiddlesticks, those darn Fundies've taken away our Rights again. Can I still drink from the seperate-but-equal drinking fountain and sit at the seperate-but-equal lunch counter?
Seriously Jim? You seriously believe We are not being treated as second class Citizens? Isn't that just quaint, comming from someone who doesn't have to worry about such things.
Jim, may I call you Captain Fucktard? Okay, listen here, Captain Fucktard, We are not hateful. What we are is ANGRY AS THE BLAZES OF HELL.
I am angry as hell that no one is mentioning the simple fact that Prop 8 is illegal, at least under the First Amendment. PROP 8 IS NOW A LAW RESPECTING AN ESTABLISHMENT OF RELIGION! How does Prop 8 differ from Prop 22? Didn't the California Supreme Court rule that Prop 22 was Unconstitutional??? Why is Prop 8 any different? Wouldn't Prop 8 fall under the same Ruling as Prop 22, or do we have to take it up with the Supremes once again?

If so, I say that ALL Same-Sex partners who have missed the opportunity to wed should go EN MASSE to their respective City Hall and request a Marriage License. Those (unfortunately all) who are denied a License should get a good Civil Rights Attorney and SUE THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA! Sue for descrimination. Whatever it takes. Take this fight BACK to the California Supreme Court. Petitions are fine'n dandy, but a mass Lawsuit (say, "The People Vs. The State Of California") sends a far louder message. No more "strongly written lettres", no more finger wagging and certainly NO GIVING UP UNTIL THE JOB IS DONE!

We need to make clear that those who have fought our battle before us and those who continue, have not and do not fight in vain. Silence equals acceptance.

That is a really good insight into their methods... the thing is though, it's their side that always wins through deception... we should be more principled.

One ad that I thought did a good job of pointing out the sneaky methods of the right side was Mark Udah's "Hide" ad which makes fun of the fear-mongering of his opponent. See http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TaTojwO1eHc

I am pleased that Obama is the new President elect but there is some strange 'head in sand' thinking going on with the GLBT community. Obama and Biden were against gay marriage in this campaign. Biden said that very clearly in his debate against Palin. Sure, he's for equal rights- but their position can only be thought of in one of two ways.

Either he genuinely believes that marriage should only be between a man and a woman, in which case he certainly wasn't championing true equality for the GLBT community or he was saying what he believed he needed to be saying in order not to lose those people for whom this issue became such a red flag to in the first Bush election. If it's the later, his election has been won to the cost of movement on this issue.

Neither is a truly progressive stance.

Brilliant!!! We've got to fight, fight, fight. 3 lawsuits have been filed over this. I hope everyone of the couples that got married take it to court! Where's Arnold? I thought he was going to TERMINATE this. America is so sectarian. Anyway, great thoughts in a depressing situation. We will never give up!

the advertisement for arizona in tucson was "Yes on Marriage" instead of "we are going to actually change the constitution to say one man and one woman because we are scarred that gay people will actually be able to marry each other. i dont think half of the arizonians (the young ones) knew what they were actually voting for.

We flew out from Florida and got married on Halloween in Sonoma. Although Prop 8 and Amend. 2 (in FL) passed, the fight is not over by a long way. M.C., thanks for all your support and we will see equality for all in our lifetime! Russ & Mark

Most fuckin' hilarious approach to this...I'm in Florida and we had the same stupid shite pass over here. Ours was amendment 2 and the right wingers used the same crap "save our family". Last time I checked the gay and lesbian community wasn't mobilizing into a huge militia and knocking on doors to convert or kill families that want to live a "tradtional" heterosexual life.

Hmm...a gay and lesbian militia...maybe that is what we need, I'm going to work on that....

Genius! I think that's great. Also, I believe children are involved insofar as their (future) rights require protection, as well. So essentially, I see no trickery; your propaganda just beats the mofo's at their own game.
