Hello folks...i know you have all been waiting by your computer for weeks anticipating my Top 10 Albums of 2006 List. I will list the album, then a brief description..then my favorite song off the album. Hope all 10 of you that read it enjoy it.....
1. J Dilla "Donuts": God rest this Detroit native's soul as he passed back in February from Lupus. Dead of alive, this is my favorite album of the year. It is a very different album (there's no lyrics, just beats) but it just has something to it that i love. Almost flawless album. (Workinonit)
2. Lupe Fiasco "Food and Liquor": This much hyped album lived up to expectations for me, as the Chi-town newcomer brought a trademark flow to a genre that is short on them. Plus, every song had a meaning or message. (Kick, Push)
3. Deftones "Saturday Night Wrist": This very dark release made up for their last album, that i thought was a little disappointing. A very moody yet powerful release. (Cherry Waves)
4. The Roots "Game Theory": A near perfect album from the classy veterans. This was also a "darker" release for them, but very thought inspiring and musically challenging. Malik B and Dice Raw also made some memorable appearances to complement the re-energized Black Thought (In The Music)
5. Ghostface Killah "Fishscale": The only member from the Wu-Tang that is relevant these days, Ghostface definitely brought it on this album. His beat selection is top notch, as is his breathless flow. He has another album coming out in two days, but i like this one a little better. (Clipse of Doom)
6. Incubus "Light Grenades": After more then a decade, these guys continue to make good music. This album displayed all their influences, but it also continues their trend of changing with each album. Very melodic. (Dig)
7. Jay-Z "Kingdom Come": Alot of people whined about this album, saying that he's too old and has nothing left to say. Well, they're part right but i think this album still proves he's the best alive. Just Blaze dropped some real nice beats, along with my boys the Neptunes (Anything)
8. DJ Shadow "The Outsider": This album was ALL OVER THE PLACE in terms of styles. Josh Davis (aka DJ Shadow) definitely threw folks for a loop as he tapped into hyphy, indie rock and other styles on this release. I loved it off the bat, but this album has gotten a little more quiet for me, but still good enough for the top 10. (Erase You)
9. Clipse "Hell Hath No Fury": Ok, the Clipse have nothing to say when you think about it. ALL they rhyme about is pushing cocaine, and it does get old. However, their blahzay flow is a big hit with me. Plus, with the Neptunes dropping the beats like they did on this album, NOONE could go wrong. (except your boy K-Fed)
10. I Love You But I've Chosen Darkness "Fear Is On Our Side": The band with the coolest name in rock surprised me with this album. Heavily influenced by early 80s rock, their resemblance in sound to Interpol helps make me a fan as well. Very dark. (Fear Is On Our Side)
There you go folks, the new Tadow album entitled "Every Passing Minute, Every Waking Moment" is under construction and should be ready by February-March
