Hey Ya'll. Dia here. We are going to be putting up a new song this coming Friday... Oct. 24th. Before you jump to conclusions, I regret to say, no this is not a new song, as far as going on the new record is concerned. This is a separate song, and is going to be released as an individual "Meg and Dia" tune. No. It will not be going on our upcoming record, "Here, here, and here." I hope I make that...pretty clear. People always seem to get confused with random song posts. Ha. Oh well. A song is a song.... and music is love. Where can you get this song? You will be able to get this song very soon. It is going to be on a compilation CD featuring many other artists. The compilation is for "Take Action," and it will be coming out this year shortly. Take Action was founded by people from indie labels here in the US. To date, over $450,000 has been raised by the efforts of Take Action and has been delivered to many different non-profit charity organizations. They strive to (And I quote here)"Raise funds and awareness for non-profit organizations." For those who are interested, the charity chosen for 2008 is called "Do Something." And I quote again, "Do something distributes weekly $500 grants to young people with ideas about how to make a difference in their community." So, there ya have it. All that boring information. Kidding! But, seriously, if you guys like the tune, check out the comp. and support music and your community at the same time. That would be...pretty cool, ay? And since Thanksgiving is coming up, all the better! Let's get in the mood of turkey and music, and receiving presents. No. Giving presents..... My mom always told me ever since I was a kid, "Dia, it is not about receiving presents from your friends, or how much the gift costs.. It is about giving to others." I still don't know what in the heck she is talking about. Gee whiz momma. Get it together... My little korean mammy still doesn't know about American tradition, or rather, MY traditions! Uhm...as Mitch Hedburg would say, "After that joke, I always want to clarify that I was just joking." xo. So, now to the song business. Blah. Music.. the boring part AGAIN! I am still trying to beg Warner Bro. to just hire a freakin' team of song writers for us. As I am sippin on my lemonade, they keep bothering me, and I always reply with, "What? You mean I actually have to WRITE songs too?" But anyhow, after the lemonade, (and gingerbread) And NOOOO FOOD FOR 7 DAYS! (Uhm...yeah, went on a little spiritual, mind bending fast...uhm, long story. Crazy. And tomorrow is the last day..And let me tell you, my mind is sooo clear now!. I mean, I am constantly seeing birds dancing around my head in a halo, and...oddly enough, floating chocolate cakes...!!...like saucers...everywhere in my house. No one else sees 'em. So I decided fasting makes you insane. For all you very religious people out there... gee whiz. I commend thee, and I am so sure God does too! Focus. Song. Song. (sorry, I end tomorrow. No food.... This computer screen...oddly looks like a banana split. And you see it too? Thank Goodness! Whew!) The Song is called, "Halloween." (Oh how convenient! Ya, we actually have some more songs in the works lately. Meg and I have been feeling really emotional and musical lately. We have new songs called, "Turkey day" and "The 4th of July" as well. No. No no no no. No. NO. The coincidence that it is October, and the coincidence that the song is called Halloween, are simply...well, coincidence. Ok? We do not see Pumpkins in the street and run home to our guitars because we are so inspired to write. Sorry. We don't. That is why we have bands such as X and also, another, exhibit X. (Not gonna name names. I am not that big of a weiner! I hope. My mom says I am not). (By the way, my mom, ((who is asian and says...uh, funny english things sometimes)) (It is her second language! Give her a break!) said, the other day, as my little sister came limping in from basketball practice with a sprained ankle.) "Oh Yoboe (that means, sweetheart in korean), Nikki twisted her winkle!" If you don't find that funny. Don't listen to our music. I can't stand the thought of someone listening to our music without a sense of humor. Anyways, this song is actually quite factual. It is about close related friends and amazing people in our lives, and more or less, THEIR story, through our music and lyrics and thoughts. They shall remain unnamed, out of respect for them, but we just want to say to those persons, "Thank you for sharing bits and pieces of your beautiful life with us." This...story, happened on Halloween. Hence, the name. Smart you are! The story, must live on mostly in your imagination, and we have given you a lot to work with! Again, out of respect and privacy for those persons, I will not explain as religiously and excitedly as I normally do. (For those who read my silly blogs and journals). This song was written by Meg, and was recorded in her small bedroom in Florida, on her small computer, with her beloved guitar she has had since high school. The string programming and all the effects were made by her magical ear. Don't whine to me about bad quality recordings. I love the sound of a well produced song and Record, but I also will never lose the love I have...for, well, as I call them, "Living room" or "basement" recorded songs. They are recorded with as much time as we want, with as much love as we want, and with not exactly the right, or "correct" padding on the wall, reverberating wooden ceilings, or thousand dollar microphones. But they are real. They are simple. My voice is one take. So it is not perfect, (not saying it ever was! Ha). But it is a moment in time captured...and not chopped up. Not...selective of the best vowels. It is love. (And God knows, I am not "bashing" on well produced records, or recording equipment. That is an art in itself, and also has my deepest love and respect and will always hold a magical mystery for me. This is just a DIFFERENT way. And I feel like sometimes, people forget about this way.) Anyways, the song will be up Friday! Just for a little while, for all of you to enjoy. Happy Halloween to all of you! My little sister is being a bunny rabbit! And I am being a hooker. Kidding! But don't you think it is funny how us girls manage to make any costume on Halloween extremely slutty! Ha. If a girl says she is going to be a Tiger, that means a black and orange bikini with long fake fingernails on her hands and whiskers on her cheeks! I am not bashing ladies. Been there! It is a nice breath of fresh air from the winter turtleneck around dad's right? Ha. I kid. I asked Meg what she is going to be and she said she is going to wear a long long white t shirt and draw 3 black holes on the side. "What's that Meg?" And she replied, very seriously, "I am going to be a notebook piece of paper." Did I ever mention...Meg is weird? She is cool though, and she is a good Yoga partner. Love you all! Happy Halloween. And don't eat any candy that is unwrapped. Gross! Hope you like the music... dia xo
Lyrics: Halloween
I've Decided I'm done. Don't care to move on. Not used to losing someone. If I lost faith, was no choice I made. I'll except the excuse of no one. Your careful silence can't replace, your stupid smile. Casseroles and Handshakes, can't restore 12 damn years of ours. You stole me. I don't care to try again. They said, "Time will heal, and time will mend," But on Halloween, the last time you left If I knew, you were never coming back, I would have, Held on to that last day, instead of, "Here's your keys," the last thing I'd say would be "I love you." and Just in case, "I'm only myself when I'm with you baby."
Take down my mirror, my pictures of costumes, and youth. Throw aside posters, and books, and aged fortunes and all that reminds me of you. With a pat on the back they say, "Honey, it's time to move on. I'm sure we can find you a hobby, now that he's gone." They stole you. They don't understand. We were like this since the first time we met. We were born holding hands. Give me flowers and cards, I'll smile all they want If they give me what I want. Just give me what I want.
... I'll be with you someday.
