Daddy, I love you. I didn’t have the chance to tell you but I do. I will miss you so much. It’s hard going on with my life knowing that you are not here. I just wanted to tell you HAPPY FATHER’S DAY!!!!!

On April 1st, 2005 my father was diagnosed with liver cancer. This was the worst news that my family had ever received. We couldn’t believe it. It nearly destroyed our lives. Why him? Why us? Why now? Three questions I still seek answers for.
I remembered that day my dad gave us the news as if it was yesterday. He said, “Guys, I don’t want you to get scared but I was diagnosed with liver cancer.”
It was scary to know and find out, but that did not scare my dad or stop him from living is life. My father took it day by day, and minute by minute normally. It seemed as if he was okay. Doing the usual, taking the family out to dinner, working on his Nova and of course race one of his favorite things to do. He was a strong man. I don’t think you would even notice he was sick.
He had to put up with two years of chemotherapy. He felt weak and fragile but that didn’t matter to him. He stood up strong ready to leave the treatment center. He had chemo every week for three days, then it started to be every two weeks and it went on like that for two suffering years.
As the years went by everything was getting to the way it used to be before. Until one day he started feeling ill. My father started getting pains, not eating and worst of all he wasn’t even drinking any liquids. We took him to the doctor where he was being treated with chemotherapy to see what was going wrong. The doctor gave us the news that we dreaded the most. He told our family that he didn’t have much to live. But that of course didn’t stop my dad to quit and give up that made him a stronger person. My dad kept fighting this cancer battle and wasn’t going to give up. This to him wasn’t a battle anymore it meant war. He wanted to live as long as God allowed him to for his wife, kids, and of course his family.
Not many people live longer than expected when being diagnosed with liver cancer. But my dad fought and battled this deadly disease. His family was day and night by his side watching every move as if it were the last. We prayed to God not to take him yet, we needed him so much. But even knowing that he could have left us any minute we were ready to let him go.
Unfortunately, that day came sooner than what we thought. May 21st, 2007 my dad passed away. My father taught us to not give up easily. God gives us the hardest challenges so we won’t give up. To keep trying to get what we want. It was his time to rest and stop suffering. My father was a very noble and great man. He was loved by everyone in his family and his friends. He had this special glow in his eyes that made us not stay mad at him. He did so much for his family. He will be missed. I am proud to be his daughter, knowing he never gave up. I thank him for showing me that anyone can do it.
 

I dont know you but I read the message that you wrote on Dawns blog!! I just want to say God Bless you and your family and I hope that he keeps you as well!! AS you said, you were blessed to have a father like him!!! UNfortnately I am not but anyway keep your head up!!! and be well!!!

I love it! Wow, I would never guess you were only 12 when that was recorded! I can relate to the first post, my father is resting in peace since April 12, 1993. It too was from cancer in his liver.

as soon as i heard it my grandad came to me and tears came to my eyes!!!
i miss him so much, he was and still is the big man in the Thomas family.
its so sad to say but him passin has made my family closer.
