Last Wednesday saw 5 bands playing for Shelter via God Is In The TV at the Purple Parrot in Camden.  Poorly advertised if the turn-out was anything to go by, surely more people would get up to this stuff if they knew about it?  Maybe the Capitol just has too much on offer every night to fill the seemingly endless venues appearing.  Still those who bothered got good VFM.  NOSFERATU D2 (sadly I only got this joke after 2 days - wanker) are "proper" indie, choppy, discordant music.  Oblique & slightly threatening (musically).  PENNY BROADHURST was as good as I'd hoped despite the bar chat threatening to drown her out.  Poetry that is funny without trying to hard, somehow always works better with a Northern accent (see also John Cooper Clarke).  A very credible rhythmic meter makes you nod your head in time as well as recognition.  THE SAILPLANES dealt well with "no sound-check" problems and sounded  unchecked.  Could do with another viewing though as I was half-cut by then.  Well done to Rose Kemp & 586 for giving of their time, although I didn't much like Rose and didn't see 586.

Straight on with ANDEH (another entry in my big book of annoying modern spellings).  The bad news - the musical setting are bland jangly folk, well played but uninspiring.  The very good news - this is a really clever (not clever clever) pop lyricist completely belying his 18 years.  Wry, amusing & touching.  Think Billy Bragg without the social politics.  With less busy backing (or a band to help with the music) this could be top drawer stuff.  As it is, pretty exciting possibilities.   I Never Used To and Little Miss Diagnosis are the pick of the 4, little gems www.myspace.com/andehmusic .  AUDIOMASTER is another alias for Nic from LIQUOR STORE.  More stripped and funky they are, I believe, tracks waiting for a rapper.  They certainly seem less finished than the Liquor Store stuff, still talented shit at work.  So send him some vocals www.myspace.com/audiomasterishere .  JIM "II"s BRAIN sets his stall by his name & site.  We're saying quirky here.  Actually surprisingly melodic twee warbling with amusing lyrics (and some romantic pop).  An oddity, unsure if it wants to go with silly or straight pop.  But either way it works very well www.myspace.com/jimllsbrain .  Nic is back with LIQUORSTORE remix of The Beastie Boys Body Moving.  Snap it up before the lawyers hear (or the BBs employ him) at their site or the one above for Audiomaster.  FRANCIS DUKE OF SICILY are promising if offering nothing too new.  Certainly above the average talent levels of most young bands (not necessarily a good thing).  Indie but with Stereophonics melodic ear.   Interesting choice of name, if you're not the sort of person that gets straight on the search engine to look it up you probably shouldn't read me (or I should be less anal).  I'll just say depending on which Francis he was either reactionary or thick.  www.myspace.com/francisdukeofsicily

Also listened to and ignored this time -  Vinyl Dharma (not my thing but good solid band)/Getset Go (ditto)/The Tacticians (both bitter & sweet) - actually you should probably download but I can't think of much to say apart from Babybird.
