Marvel Comics

Agents of Atlas #1 (of 6): This issue went on sale last week and I didnt buy it then because I didnt think it would be that good. Not being able to resist a gorilla with machine guns, I went ahead and picked it up this week. I was really surprised at how good the story actually is. Its all about SHIELD Agent Jimmy Woo, who had a super team in 1954. Their first mission was to save President Eisenhower from The Yellow Claw, a crazy Chinese dude, not unlike the Mandarin. Afterwards they were considered a risk and had to disband. Then the story takes you to present day as Gorilla Man tells the story of whats happening. And, yes, Gorilla Man kicks ass. Dont laugh. All in all it was a great story that had a really good feel to it. Hopefully the next issue will be just as good, if not better. Four Star Rating ****

Beyond #2: I really liked this issue a hell of a lot more than the last one. First of all the art is better. Secondly, the story is much better. It just doesnt fell as jumbled. If the first issue wouldve been double sized then it wouldve been better. The ragtag group of heroes find out that the Beyonder is the one who kidnapped them. Tensions rise as the heroes disagree on what they should do to Venom for killing Spider-Man. Of course all this could be solved if Spidey wasnt deador is he? While this doesnt look like an all too important tell in the Marvel Universe it definitely looks interesting and worth a read. Plus Dragon Man makes an appearance in this issue. Four Star Rating ****

Civil War: Front Line #5: This is really one of the best Civil War tie ins out there. This series offers three or more stories in each issue. The art is absolutely amazing. In this issue Ben Urich tries to convince J. Jonah Jameson that Norman Osborn back as the Green Goblin again; Sally Floyd gets approached by someone who tells her that she needs to stay away from Captain Americas Secret Avengers; Wonder Man gets drafted to help the US Government find Joe who is a supposed Atlantean spy; and a touching story at the end that reads two brothers letters that were in the American Civil War and compares it to Spider-Mans feelings about this Civil War. A definite must buy. Pick of the Week-Tie. Five Star Rating *****

Fantastic Four: First Family #6 (of 6): The last issue in this limited series about the Fantastic Fours early days, this issue really delivers. It has great art that Ive had a love/hate relationship with. And the story is very entertaining to say the least. By the end of this issue the Fantastic Four finally learns how to work as a team and tackler their first major villain. This is really a heartwarming tale that shows how strong Reed and Sues love for one another is, and I believe that it will help intensify the things that are going on in Fantastic Four now, involving the Civil War and the potential splitting up of Marvels First Family. Four Star Rating ****

Incredible Hulk #97: This is part two of the four part Planet Hulk: Anarchy story arc. I have to say that Planet Hulk has went above and beyond what comic fans expected of it. You had a potential story disaster, but when you read that first issue it hooked you. One of the better, if not best, story lines in recent Hulk history. This issue features betrayal as one of Hulks friends betrays him. Elsewhere, the Emperor has finally snapped and is torching everything that moves! The art is great and the characters are very easy to bond with. Hopefully we will see more of the characters from Planet Hulk back on Earth, because I really do enjoy some of there personalities. This is one of the best series that Marvel has right now. This is my Get This Issue or the Hulk Will SMASH! Your Puny Human Ass Pick of the Week! Five Star Rating *****

Ms. Marvel #6: This is a Civil War Tie-In and that was the reason I picked it up. Boy was I surprised when I found a very entertaining comic with great art. This comic has totally surprised me and has made me decide that Im going to keep getting it even after the Civil War Tie-Ins are over. In this issue Ms. Marvel is teamed up with Wonder Man and Arachne aka Julia Carpenter, who was once known as Spider-Woman. There was a lot of story going on here as one of Ms. Marvels teammates switches sides and becomes a fugitive. Arana also makes an appearance, as she is being tracked by Ms. Marvel and SHIELD. Four Star Rating ****

New X-Men #29: I love this comic. It is one of my favorite comics out right now and for good reason. If you loved the X-Mens adventures in the 80s and 90s, then this is your title. The art is awesome too. Nimrod is back and is threatening to kill Storm if Forge doesnt repair him. Meanwhile, the New X-Men are told that Nimrod couldnt have came back and are left alone with an important decision to make. Im really excited and want to read the next issue already. This looks to be a really important story arc in New X-Men. Five Star Rating *****

She-Hulk #10: I really didnt enjoy the last issue too much, but this one has made up for it. Its really exciting and has some pretty decent art. The Civil War is still affecting She-Hulks life. Pug gets the cure for what has been causing John Jameson and She-Hulk to fall in love with each other. When Pug confronts Jameson and She-Hulk, Jameson goes crazy and becomes the Man-Wolf. But the real thing that triggers Jamesons transformation is not Pug, but the work of a super villain from both J. Jonah and Johns past. Four Star Rating ****

Ultimate Spider-Man Annual #2: Two words: great comic! This comic is so good that you must buy it. If you love Ultimate Spider-Man then you will love this issue. The arts amazing and the storys amazing. Its just amazing. Is that redundant because this is the Amazing Ultimate Spider-Man? I think not. Weve got appearances by Ultimate Punisher, Ultimate Moon Knight, Ultimate Daredevil, Ultimate Kangaroo, Ultimate Kingpin, and of course, Ultimate Spider-Man. What more could you want? Pick of the Week-Tie. Five Star Rating *****

Ultimate X-Men #73: This issue was really amazing. I thought the last issue was good, but this one takes the cake. This is the second issue of the three part Magical story arc and The Magicians world starts to unravel in this issue. What exactly are the Magicians plans and does he mean the X-Men harm? I really cant wait for the next issue. The art is equally as good as the story. Superb issue. Five Star Rating *****

Wolverine: Origins #5: Okay I have to say that IGN gave this a bad review, but I found it to be totally kick ass. I guess some people like different things. The art is not bad at all, and the huge twist that is in this issue is just that: a huge twist. This is a very good issue and I suggest that you pick it up. It left me waiting for the next issue to get here. Emma Frosts revelation to Wolverine is reason enough to pick up this issue. Five Star Rating *****

DC Comics

52 #14: This issue slows the pace down just a little bit. Not so much that its just an average comic though. DCs mad scientist experiment with doing a weekly comic series is proving to be one for the books. Now I know itll end at #52, but there will probably be some kind of spin-off. The art is great as usual, offering different artists for different stories, not unlike Marvels Civil War: Front Line. In this issue, Renee Montoya and The Q get into some international trouble, Dr. T.O. Morrow has gone MIA, and John Henry is still turning into living steel. Very good issue, with the origin of Metamorpho at the end. Four Star Rating ****

Batman: Legends of the Dark Knight #209: I love the art in this story arc. Its great, almost like a painting. The story is really good too. Batman is trying to find a kidnapped woman. The problems start when Batman realizes he is too close to this case because hes seeing the kidnapped girls sister as Bruce Wayne. The craziest part comes when Batman kicks a strippers ass. Dont ask. On Batmans part, I will say that shes a crazy stripper who seems to know kung-fu and has blades in her shoes. Plus she attacks him first. If a woman is trying to kill you, then youve got to do what youve got to do. Four Star Rating ****

Martian Manhunter #1 (of 8): Wow. I was always particularly fond of Martian Manhunter. Hes a personal favorite of mine, mostly due to his awesome story and his kick ass powers. I never wouldve expected this to be one of the best series Ive read in a while. It is a limited series, but if the pace keeps up, I could definitely see DC doing a Martian Manhunter ongoing series. In this issue, Martian Manhunter is telepathically contacted by another Martian. The reason why this is weird is because Martian Manhunter was supposed to be the only one of his kind that lived after an attack on his planet. He sets off to find his brother and discovers a shocking secret. The art isnt too shabby either. Pick of the Week-Tie. Five Star Rating *****

The Next #2 (of 6): Oh boy. I really wasnt looking forward to picking up this issue, but being the completist that I am, I had to get it after I got the first issue. Im really glad this isnt an ongoing series. The last issue was pretty damn bad, and thats coming from me. I love to give everything a try, but this is really crappy. Luckily this one was just a little bit better than the last issue. The story is so crappy that I cant even explain it. It deals with inter-dimensional beings travel to the end of time on a field trip, and they accidentally screw the space-time continuum up when they land on Earth and accidentally kill a girl, but then they bring her back. After bringing her back, they are linked to her, and cant leave Earth without killing her again. Oy! In other words, dont buy it. Three Star Rating ***

Secret Six #3 (of 6): While the first issue of this series was pretty great, the second two issues havent been as good. I will say that this issue was a lot better than the last one, but it just lacked something. The art is wonderful, and the story is pretty good as well. While its not a must buy, I will say that this limited series is a personal favorite of mine, and if you think you will like it then all mines buy it. The story is pretty complicated so all I can tell you is that one member betrays their teammates. Four Star Rating ****

Superman #655: While this isnt as big a story as the Up, Up, and Away it is definitely worth checking out. Clark is sent on assignment to a foreign country (cant really spell it right now) to interview his old friend Callie. Before he even gets there he uses his telescopic vision to zoom in and find the base that she is on destroyed. Superman takes off to try and help the people in the base out. While he does get some of them out, including Callie, he finds out that a creature called Subjekt 17 broke out and trashed the base. Next issue promises to delve more into the history of Subjekt 17. And might I add that the art is very good and definitely worth mention. Four Star Rating ****

IDW Comics

Transformers: Stormbringer #2 (of 4): Transformers comics are particularly hard to read, especially if you dont really know anything about them. I personally liked this comic, but I will be fair and say that new readers will have trouble understanding it all. It is very good, especially on the art side. The thing about dealing with robots as characters is that you can do all kinds of neat things with the look of them and the art definitely shows that. To sum up the plot so far, Jetfire and the Technobots are on a scouting mission when there ship is attacked. They go to Cybertron and are ambushed by a team of Decepticons lead by Bludgeon. It turns out that Bludgeon is using the destroyed bodies of Jetfires teammates to reanimate Thunderwing, a huge robot that Bludgeon plans take control of. This is a great story and I definitely recommend it to Transfans everywhere. Four Star Rating ****

See, I told you guys I would have the stuff up early this week. Next week Ill try to do the same. In more comic movie news, Marvel is planning on doing a live action Avengers movie. This would normally seem like a fan boys wet dream, but the problem arises when you see that a lot of the characters in the Avengers are owned by different companies. Hopefully they can get the rights to use them. If they cant, then Marvel will have to step in and say These are our characters above all else, and we are giving them permission to use them. Lets all pray that this is a good movie. In fact, lets pray that this blows all other comic book movies out of the water, and that it uses all the main members. And remember, until next time read some quality shit!
