Current mood:  annoyed

Smell is supposedly the strongest link to memory but do we need it to get to the full effect of the movies. I have located an article that is telling me there will be the release of a new Colin Farrell movie in Japan...but this just isnt any movie premiere. This is the premiere of a scent friendly movie. There will be a floral scent to accompany a love scene, while a mix of peppermint and rosemary is emitted during a tear-jerking scene. Okay, I am concerned about this one! I mean pa-lease...is this we are spending money on in the world today. Forget that gas prices are obscenely high b/c oh that love scene smelled so nice! It states in this article as well that there have been several U.S. startups on this but they have been shut down due to the dot-com bust. This means that it will be hitting us soon. Do we really need to have scents to enhance our movie experiences? I couldnt even tell you when the last time it was that I actually went to the theater b/c of the fact that it is much cheaper to just wait for the DVD. I can pop my own damn popcorn, get my candy from the dollar store by the pound cheaper then I can at the theater by the ounce. I know that if I think that movies are expensive now they will only become more so if the U.S decides to adopt this new found ploy to get us doped Americans sitting and staring aimlessly into the big screen up ahead. Has entertainment had to go to such lengths to get us there and hold our attention that they have to perfume the experiences now?

Well also mentioned, they have implemented this luxury for home entertainment systems. So now what they have shown that after you have purchased your outlet smell goodies, the febreeze c.d. player so you can hear music that is apparently in tune with the odor coming from it now we can also have this pleasure of DVDs producing a smell to better enhance a tarot card reading. I think that we have all become way over stimulated with technology and gadgets, now we need movies to pooh smell all over us. Again I say pa-lease.

On the other side of my psychobablonic rant I can see how some people may find this as a way to enhance the movie experience. I just cant help but think that this is really a waste of money, but hey, apparently they have made so much money off us all that they have to really pull hard at the strings here for something creative to hook us with now.

Though when I mentioned this to one of my friends, the first they said was, COOL!. Am I missing something here, my first though was, OH MY GOD, ARE YOU KIDDING ME? So who knows, this will probably take off everywhere and be a huge success and in 10 years it will be in all homes across America...blah, blah, blah...the end.

Well that is the craziest thing I have heard. But it may be better than the smell of some of the theatres I have been to. Its like, whats next, maybe you can get a computer that releases a poo smell when it decides to get a virus and crap out on you.
