I have a friend whose daughter is a senior in high school and is getting ready to go off to college. Much to her father’s happiness she is staying here in Rhode Island.

The school she got accepted to is a great instituion of higher learning and perfectly suited for her major. It’s also a major expense.

They were very pleased when the school announced that they were able to give his daughter a scholarship in the amount of $10,000. Ten grand isn’t nearly what the school costs per year but certainly something that will assist them with her tuition.

The school had a ceremony for the incomming students who recieved scholarships and his daughter was very excited to go. The entire family went to watch her recieve her scholarship award. My friend felt his little girl grow up right in front of his eyes.

As they left that fine school of higher education while beaming with pride they saw this:

The Girls Gone Wild van was on her campus filming. What every Daddy needs to see the day he commits to his daughter’s education!

How do you think HE felt?

HE PROBABLY FELT LIKE HE'D NEVER PURCHASE ANOTHER ONE OF THOSE VIDEOS AGAIN.

DON'T WANT TO SEE YOUR DAUGHTER IN ANYTHING LIKE THAT.

EVERY FATHER'S WORST NIGHTMARE COME TO LIFE.

AND JUST SO YOU KNOW, THE FIRST PART WAS MEANT AS A JOKE, AND IN KNOW WAY WAS MEANT TO OFFEND. IF IT DID, I APOLIGIZE.

AS A PARENT OF A LITTLE GIRL, I'D BE A LITTLE LEARY AFTER SEEING THAT VAN THERE.
I'D DEFINATELY BE TALKING TO MY DAUGHTER ABOUT THE DIFFERENCE IN BETWEEN A QUICK BUCK, AND A QUICK WAY OUT OF COLLEGE IS SHE EVER THOUGHT OF DOING ANYTHING LIKE THAT.

I am amazed college are still letting them on campus, but there may be a distinction between public universities and private schools. My undergraduate school was private, and no way anyone filming for that crap would be allowed through the gates. But I went to a public university for law school and that is something totally different.

Has to be hard - for most parents it is hard enough to let your child go, much less when there are traps in life such as that staring you in the face.

Your brother and I were reading this together and his exact quote was, "It's not a Dad's worst nightmare to see 'the van,' it's a Dad's worst nightmare to go to his favorite strip club and see his little girl greasin' up a pole!" So, we obviously have his feelings on that topic! Lol.

So sad for your friend, though. Most parents have a hard enough time just letting go, let alone to THINK that his daughter could get drunk at a Frat party and wind up on one of those raunchy videos.

I think the world gets less moral each day. I cannot imagine how he felt.

I think we can give the daughter the benefit of the doubt until proven otherwise.

I suspect that he felt as if one of his worst nightmares came true.

That's a very sad statement.

It reminds me of a commentary by Meghan Daum I read the other day, "Raunch is rebranded as 'confidence.'"

Daum explains how she tried to figure out what the allure of "Going Wild" like that is about.

Essentially, she says it's the result of a world where "hotness" becomes an element of "self-esteem."

No, I don't get it, either. Yes, that's really sad.
