I headed up to Birmingham this weekend with the Findlay Brown (http://www.myspace.com/findlaybrown) / Moon Music Orchestra (http://www.myspace.com/theholymoonmusicorchestra) lot for the Moseley Folk festival.
We went up in a couple of vans. The drive up was all about getting the drum pedal to Finlay's drummer before their set (just in time) and mini tarot card readings. I apparently have to trust my intuition, act swiftly, but be patient.
My intuition seemed a little rusty. I'd had my tent rejected at the start of the journey as the festival was apparently in a park. Hotels at last with who's sharing with who, sneaking people past security, hiding behind doors of giggling corridors and all that silliness.
I didn't catch Fin's whole set because I had my own in another tent, but watch that boy go! He was dressed in baby blue cardie, oversized shades, coiffure'd hairdo and painted on jeans. Just like Elvis! He crooned a couple of acoustic no's before his band joined him for some more countrified loveliness, rich, true and beautifully harmonised. Just plain no questions asked good music. The Moon Music Orchestra were a blast. High octane country and western – givin' it some, revving each other up and then us. They had a bit of everything, banjo's mandolins, melodica's and a saucy bare-legged tambourine to boot. Their set was all over too soon, but we were promised more of them at the after party. Things got merrier and merrier as the day went on. Somehow everyone ended up at the very messy after party which ended up with pretty much everyone on stage in a kind of drunken brawl. The crowd loved it! Fin managed to sing the same song twice in row and no-one seemed to notice! Ha!
