I am going for the indian premiere of Batman - The Dark Knight tonight! WOOHOO! and i am SUPER amped because, well, you see I LOVE graphic novels, and if part one was anything to go by, this should be well "inspired" by the later batman retcons as well...
Batman Begins kicked mucho buttorks, because it took a lot of leads from Frank Miller's retconned Batman - Year One. Its always fun to see a "superhero" in a human manner (although you don't have to go all hancock on it). ANd the way Frankie boy does it is simply by making him more real, so we see how Mr. Wayne turns into the BAT, in a 'normal' manner, ragther than going over the top with it.
THAT'S what graphic novel writers have been doing since the late 80s... creating more mature, more multifacetted, more REAL superheroes... check out Alan Moore's Watchmen, or his story arc of Swamp Thing. Frank Miller's Batman retcons are awesome too. Then there's Ex Machina by Brian k Vaughan which again puts a superhero in a "real situations" (he can talk to machines AND he's the mayor of new york!!)
Basically, with graphic novels, you get awesome art, AND awesome stories... long live em!
6 hours to go for batman - more later!!
