Who Gives Kudos:

February 5, 2007 - Monday

I called my 17 year old son into my office the other day to show him my new MySpace profile and the "Its all about the Poo" video from Scrubs. I was so proud. He laughed at the video but then looked at me and said, "What are you doing on MySpace? You're weird!" That was when I remembered our relationship never lacked for honesty. I tried to defend myself  "MySpace isn't just for teenagers, there are a lot of people my age on MySpace" and he yelled from his room "Yeah, but most of them are trolling for teenagers" that made me feel a little awkward but he continued "I don't care, just don't ask to be my friend." You would think that would hurt my feelings, instead it brought a smile to my face as I said to myself "Don't worry I'll just write about you instead"

I'm on MySpace because I'm trying to get a feel for this social networking thing that has taken the web by storm and I also like to embarrass my son. I'll be writing about being a single dad and also brag about my kid. So, if you are over 30 stop by my profile and say hi.

Chris

Had to laugh at your son's response to your getting a My Space page. However, I also think it is wonderful that you ave a relationship where he can be that honest with you. Definately something to treasure.

Yep! I worked real hard when he was a little kid to foster open communication. My thought process was if you start early enough it just becomes normal. He still ocasionally keeps stuff from me but not for very long.

Yeah, being a single dad has nothing to do with it. As you said we are just old and out of touch. Glad to hear from a Golden Hawk alum.
