Popstar! was among the chosen few to be invited by Disney Channel to their "upfront" (a secret meeting for advertisers where upcoming projects are revealed) in Manhattan today. The event was themed "The Next Big Thing," and Disney talked about their ability to pick new stars (something Popstar! prides ourselves on being able to do, too!) like Hilary, Zac, The Cheetah Girls, Miley and Selena.
BREAKING NEWS: Disney says they are "writing HSM4" and believe it will be on Disney Channel (not in theaters) and they believe there will be a Camp Rock 2 and a fourth Cheetah movie. Zac came to their attention in 2004 when he auditioned for a DC pilot (and didn’t get the part), Selena was cast in three pilots that competed against each other (and of course the winner was her smash Wizards of Waverly Place) and Zac just saw one of the executives in London (where he’s filming) and said he’s so jealous that everyone else is already in Utah filming HSM3—he "can’t wait" to go in two weeks.
But the star of Disney Channel’s "Next Big Thing" event was...Demi Lovato!
We’d just gotten back from meeting Demi, so it was so cool to see her again so soon. Demi was introduced and came out on a tiny stage to answer some questions about Camp Rock (she’s dying for it to come out), her new recording contract (with Hollywood, naturally!), the Jonas Brothers ("so professional!") and more.
Then.
Demi.
Sang!
OMG. We’re not kidding—Demi sat at a piano and played and sang the main song from Camp Rock beautifully. The room was speechless! This is a girl who flew in from Puerto Rico and arrived 30 minutes before she sat down to play! Then she graciously came over to us and the other press gathered and answered still more questions, thanking Popstar! for a gift we gave her when we first met (we’ll reveal all at a later date).

Demi, when asked about the Miley & Mandy "parody" of her YouTube show with Selena, didn’t have a bad thing to say about Miley, but did say, "...um...I don’t...know. Like, I don’t know! ’Cuz I don’t know them. I was...surprised. I was kinda honored, but in the same way...I don’t know...!" So she was as surprised as everyone else.
Also, Selena told us recently flat out, "No, I’m not dating Nick Jonas!"
