are you finding bulletins in your list that you didn't post? maybe comments sent to your friends that you didn't post?

you can stop this by changing your password! a spammer has access to your account. they're using it to market their junk to your friends via YOUR bulletins and YOUR comments. fight back by changing your password!!

now how did they get your password? it's called phishing. somewhere on myspace you clicked on a link, profile, page - something, and you saw the myspace login page. but wait - it wasn't really the myspace login page. it was a FAKE LOGIN PAGE.  that fake page was created by a spammer who is waiting for you to enter your email and password. once you've done that, he's stores your info. then he runs scripts to send bulletin spam and comment spam on myspace.

so don't fall for the trap - check the address bar at the top of the page and make sure you never login unless you're on "myspace.com". to be totally safe, type 'myspace.com' everytime you see the login page. if you type in myspace.com, you'll know you're on the right login page.

p.s. if you see a friend posting junk on their bulletins, send them a link to my blog so they know what's up !

look at these screen shots for examples. in these two cases, the spammer used a myspace profile (so the link still says myspace), but its not the login.myspace page - its a profile page with code in it made to look like a login page.

example 1
example 2
example 3

you may be looking at these and thinking how can i ever tell the differnece btween the real login.myspace.com page and one of these fakes? its a subtle difference! answer: NEVER login on this page. if you are logged out of myspace, just type www.myspace.com yourself, and then you'll know the login page is real!!

i really do not care...i just delete the bulleitns that i did not post...its just bullshit about winning a free xbox or ipod and my friends arent retards, so they wont even read the bulletins like that...also, i seriously doubt tom is gonna sit here and read all 50,000 comments on this one single bulletin, is it really worth commenting saying "thanks" and yes, befroe i get replies...i am aware that it is very hypocritical of me to say that, whilst leaving a comment on the same board, but what differentiates me from all of you, is that, i am not realy expectinbg anyone to actually even see this, never mind actually read it!
and if someone replies to this comment via comment, i wont even see it, because i will never be back on this same page again!

Yes delete the bulletins....

"But the danger doesn't end there. The person who stole your profile knows that you can always change your password and lock them out of your account. So now, they try to take over your profile entirely. If they see your email address ends in yahoo.com or hotmail.com, they go to your email login page and try to log in to your email account with the same password. Many people use the same password for their email account and their MySpace profile, and if you're one of those people, now the thief has access to your email, too.

And check this out -- once they have access to your email, they can start sending lost password requests to PayPal, AIM, Yahoo Messenger, eBay, or anywhere else you might have an account, and they can now reset your passwords on other systems, and even change the email address on your MySpace profile to their own address so you can never log in again!"

Yeah, I often tell them that too. Exactly what you said, and even extending it too. Since somehow some way spammers if they are really advanced can even place in suspicious HTML within a profile itself which can be a worst-case scenario. Thanks for posting this up, since without figuring this out on our own you seem to be the most legit source because you are practically a debugger.

there was a rumor (in a bulletin that was supposedly posted by you and carried over from others) that if someone hacked your account and spammed people, that the only thing myspace could do for you was to delete your account... i'm assuming that if you simply change your password, they'll no longer have access to it? i'm pretty green when it comes to phishing, so not sure what they can and cant do.

thanks.

Disastrously Me

Good. It's about time. I complained about a bunch of people that were posting bulliten spam & comment spam a long time ago to someone who works for Myspace & they BLEW ME OFF.

I think that you should seriously do more about it than some bulliten. The people who have it, obviously aren't smart enough to realize a fake login page so how do you know they can find your blog...

yes indeed, you're definitely smart, spelling bulletin wrong. and you see the word just about every time you log onto myspace. it would sound less weird had you not said that the people who work at Myspace blew you off(blowjobs apparently?)

the myspace person may have had too much to deal with for the day, choosing to ignore the lesser of the two evils at the moment.

so by your terminology, i'm not smart, though i am a freshman in high school, with a majority of my classes being in honors. the first time that i had been apparently "phished", was a time when i ultimately unprepared. bulletins from no where had been popping up, all from me. i remedied this problem just as Tom had said, by changing the password, without his help. the second time, i was close to falling for the fake login page, until i had recognized the url being of a profile instead of a string of number, words, and letters that could easily be recognized as the login page.

TOM'S MYSPACE ANNOUNCEMENTS STAND RIGHT THE HELL OUT, SO HOW IN HELL CAN YOU NOT EXPECT SOMEONE TO FIND IT?

next time, use a better camera or something, so that you'll actually look 24 instead of 34.

btw, its called a blog, not a bulletin.

i'm sorry that you feel the need to try and make yourself feel smarter than you really are by insulting the intelligence of people that didn't realize they were typing their password into a fake login page. i for one am not an idiot and accidently got 'phished' due to not paying enough attention while casually wasting time on myspace. i don't normally pay attention to the a ton of attention to the address bar. i'd also like to mention that you should learn to spell before you start throwing out insults about people not being 'smart enough'
have a nice day=)

as a matter of Fact, it is not an ignorant Statement.

Nowadays it has become a Norm to be ignorant about the issues around us. We overlook little details and that is wrong!.

It is not just about getting on a computer and thats it. You have to know what you are donig. Those who do not care about learning other than just using, are the ones that always have computer issues and fall for this type of tricks as well.

If you know how to read, you will never encounter computer Problems.

Check the Myspace Computer Forums, and you will see what I am talking about.

http://forum.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=messageboard.viewCategory&CategoryID=35&GroupID=0

There was a Kid, who re-formated his computer just because he saw the main Myspace Page, with colors and stuff.. He did not realize that Myspace, was just adapting a Movie Theme to its main page... Why didnt he take the time to read or find out?.. Because ignorance got the best of Him.

But the fact that he did just proves the point that there are many people out there like him. No matter how you think of it or how you segregate it, there will always be a great number of dumb people on Myspace (no offense to anyone).

When you know that a good number of your members on your site may not be the sharpest tools in the shed, you don't ditch them into the lake, you compensate by helping them in any way possible. What you're suggesting is that everyone should get smarter, or jump off a cliff. This simply isn't possible, because that's the way humanity is.

A Fact: Not everyone that gets a computer knows how to use it properly, but they use it regardless, and some of them do make it onto websites. People can learn from mistakes.

And in my humble opinion, I think it IS indeed an "ignorant statement" simply because it over-generalized all to hell.
