Who Gives Kudos:

Wednesday, December 13, 2006
.. in which our intrepid heroes realise that the Nativity story is really just the tale of a charismatic slut who invented the patently ridiculous concept of the 'immaculate conception' in order to avoid a beating from her dad.

PUT THAT IN YOUR FILM, AMERICANS.

Anyway..

SHOCK!

Future of the Left played shows! In Liverpool, Cardiff, London and Oxford! And, enjoyed them all!

Enjoyed meeting up with Kong (again, you BRUTES), Truckers of Husk, Infants, John and Jenn (Kelson said they were good, I didn't see them thanks to a beautiful woman and fantastic Thai food), Fashoda Crisis, and the fifteen or so bands we seemed to share a stage with in the Zanzibar and Wheatsheaf. Thanks to Stevie and Tasha for organising the Liverpool and Oxford shows respectively, cheers to Gary at Clwb for fixing our shit and Dan for the impromptu sound, Andy, Gen and Mark at the Luminaire (your laminated Future of the Left checkbook and pen is in the post) and a final big whoop to Mr 'Chill' Hawkins for pissing off to do sound for Whitesnake* about five minutes before the Cardiff show.

Only joking y'fucker.

HORROR!

.. then announce another show at the 100 club in London on January 30th!

Tickets are on sale NOW, apparently. Use this link .. http://www.ticketweb.co.uk/user/?region=gb_london&query=detail&event=189441

Support comes from (yes, dear) Kong and someone else who I can't quite recall right now. It's been a long day, I'm tired.

SHAME!

.. and with a curious sense of numerical consistency are announced as one of the 100 bands to 'watch' for 2007 in Rock Sound magazine .

THAT'S 100! I didn't even realise that there were 100 bands in Christianity with a record out! They've got a poll thing on their myspace page (link) but please don't vote for us! It takes a pointlessly motivated online community to win such glorious rewards, and I simultaneously expect more and less from you all.

Except for Roberts.

CASH!

.. and, Debut single released!

'fingers become thumbs'/'the lord hates a coward' is released on January 29th on 7inchsingle, limited to 1000 copies, but is currently available now as a download from all the obvious locations. I'll post a link the second I've got one.

.. Apparel!

.. also, we have t-shirts, proudly emblazoned with the 'fingers ..' cover, in white and black in a variety of sizes. They're a little big in my opinion, but everyone just laughs at me. I'll try and get a couple of photos online so you know what the hell you're getting yourself into.

They'll be £10, and yes, Cat, I have a skinny T-shirt reserved for you.

FUTURE SOUND OF MONMOUTH!

.. album nearing completion. Band appropriately excited but reigned in by life nonetheless.

After two weekends spent in the not-that-haunted-at-all environs of Monnow Valley studios, we have finished recording (and about half the mixing) for nine songs which should be finding their way onto the finished album. These songs are 'the lord hates a coward', 'fingers become thumbs', 'cloak the dagger', 'fuck the countryside alliance', 'adeadenemyalwayssmellsgood', 'plague of onces', 'small bones, small bodies', 'I need to know how to kill a cat' and 'kept by bees', along with the home-recording (previously available on myspace) of 'the big wide o'.

Mr Richard Jackson did all the recording and I thank him from the bottom of my overcrowded, blackened heart. Jim assisted and got reamed at table tennis. Jo cooked food (SUNDAY ROAST!) and laughed. We filmed a little (mostly of the recording of 'exit strategy', which actually sounded a bit shit) recorded a quiet little tune called 'the sum of all parts' (more on this perhaps, another time) and slept not a jot.

Paradise.

We'll be back to finish it off sometime near the end of February ..

.. and I'll be back sometime over Christmas with observations about Sandwich shops, Global Politics and some kind of Big Gay Review of the Year.

Tsccccchhh!

Falcub

*a joke!

Please stop mentioning me in blogs, I'm getting a little swollen. Pre Xmas drink? When you back to the (poor) North? Rose wine in the Pen and Wig (Kelson)? Table for two, no pressure....

How might the geographically disadvantaged go about in acquiring one of these singles? Will they only be available at shows?

Too Pure Records

Should (fingers crossed) be able to get them from our lovely mail order shop - yes we know it needs a refit...

Failing that, I'm sure distinguished record shops such as Rough Trade will be able to help you out. Hopefully should be some more details up here nearer the time.

I may be a Jew, but I know that the Immaculate Conception is how Mary was conceived, not how Jesus was conceived. Not that Jesus or Mary probably existed. I plan on buying a shirt.
