Three gigs within 20 hours, with about 200 kilometers between each venue is a very challenging event. Saturday just before one o'clock in the afternoon we (band and crew) met in Schiedam to load the bus and arrived in Lelystad as first band at half past two. Inside the venue preparations were still in full swing. We deceided to unload the bus and car and go for a shoppingspree in Lelystad. Luckely Lelystad is a very multicultural city and nobody looked at us as if we just landed with our spaceship, NOT! I guess some of the Lelystad population are now suffering severe neckinjuries from looking back to abrupt. It was all in all a short stroll through the city center. Back in the venue we quickly found the coffeemachine and dressingroom. After some sandwiches and a very tasty chinese meal it was time to peak. Because there was very limited space (you could only load and unload on one side of the stage) it took a while to set up. After a short linecheck Asrai started the first gig at 19.40 hrs. The setlist contained two new songs (never played live before). Setlist: Shadows, Your Hands So Cold, Dream, Pale Light, Touch In The Dark, Delilah's Lie, Eyes In The Light Of Fire, Child, Restless, In Front Of Me. Because superroadie Steven already picked up the bus before the show ended we were able to leave complete loaded within 10 minutes after the gig. (not quite complete! before the second gig we discovered that we forgot Margriet's microphone...). We arrived, after a short break between Den Bosch and Eindhoven at 11 o'clock in Roermond. At the Azijnfabriek very enthousiastic local crew and others helped us to unload the bus within 5 minutes. The merchandise ladies Janneke and Madeleine started immediately to make an attractive stand and I started to get acquainted with local soundcrew and mixing equipment. The band before us (Gail Of God) ended there show at midnight and the great adventure to start from scratch and not only build up stage but also make a monitormix and fohmix from one soundconsole. Approximately half past twelve Asrai started to the show. Soon I discovered that I mixed the monitors to loud and had a problem with a few frequencies. During second song I was able to solve almost all problems and midway the third song the sound in the venue was ok. Because the permit only allowed concertnoise till 1.15. Asrai had to stop there gig at this time. Because the crowd asked for more they were allowed to play an extra song. After the gig it was time to relax a little and mingle with the crowd. I saw some old acquaintances like a few members from Chrystal Entity and a fellow soundengineer we've met in Mexico. I left the venue with lightlady Laura, merchlady Madeleine en El Guittarro Rik at 2.30 (summertime) in the morning and arrived finally home at 3.45 (wintertime). 10 o'clock the phone rang and I heard a very vital Karin on the other site who told me that we would leave for Rijswijk at 1 o'clock instead 12 o'clock. When we met the band again everybody had a gothiclook by nature: pale and tired. In Rijswijk it took us some time to find the band entry. In Rijswijk there was a relaxed atmosphere and I started to prepare as soon as possible. About 45 minutes before the gig I was ready with all possible preparations and took a short stroll over the Fantasy and Gothic market. I even bought me a nice Rock and Roll T-shirt. Asrai started the show at 16.40 and played untill just before 6 o'clock. They played the following set: Whisper, Pale Light, Touch In The Dark, Tower, Eyes In The Light Of Fire, Delilah's Lie, In Front Of Me, Your Hands So Cold, Restless, Sour Ground, Shadows and encores Child and Dream. After this show we relaxed for about an hour and left Rijswijk at half past seven. Back home I took a shower and went to bed. I actually suffered by then headaches and was a bit noxious. It was actually a real survival of the sickest. Rgds, Marcel
