Greetings, kids! Mercy, my last Smallville episode of Season V, airs tonight. Drop by and let me know what you thought. I may agree with you, or I may plot your painful demise. It's always a bit of a coin toss.
- DeKnight
As bad as this is going to sound, if it's you last episode, it's probably the last good one....
Btw, thank you SO much for stopping by lana-clark.net, you made everyone's day!
great stuff like what? not that you'll ever tell but I was bored (need to survive this boringgggggggggggggg schooling) and wanted to throw in my two cents *g*
Any other change? *looks in her pocket* Sorry to disappoint you but I got no change left.
Need to save my money for L.A. this summer *g*
I had thought about not tuning in, because, I don't really care for the Lex/Lana relationship that's going to be portrayed, but, I guess i'll try to use tunnel vision and see everything around it.
Thanks, now you have me wondering if he has something else lined up already.
I guess you can tell I'm a James' fan too.
Aye! Aye! Capton! *salutes*
I'm a zonie so I won't see it until way after everyone else though. It sucks being stuck in the middle of the desert.
Of course! What was I thinking? Gosh! Idiot!
Sorry, I had a Napeolan Dynamite moment....
*slinks of to hunt for Ligers in the desert*
I was wondering when the Kool-Aid thing was going to come up. DeKnight, you already coerced me into sipping the Kool-Aid during your "Buffy" and "Angel" days.
I gotta tell ya... aside from the twitch, it's not all that bad, Carla. *twitch... twitch*
Jen I'm from England.. i download the episodes every Friday Morning .. you can download it from P2P networks or websites host it too..
Cant wait..
I have to say that of the last 5 or 6 episodes of the season, Mercy and Oracle read the best. Though it sounds like from your comments the whole "Lionel fixing the Kent sink" bit was cut, I hope not, because the image of John Glover doing that made me laugh. A lot.
The script reminded me of Insurgence a bit, which is still among my top 10 episodes of all time. If you're going to remind me of something, at least remind me of a good one!
So, looking forward to seeing it... sadly, I'm on the West Coast so I won't be seeing it myself for another three hours :( I don't think there's any way this one can be screwed up, though, just a very good, very solid script you should be proud of.
There is a site that is pretty good about posting transcriptions of the episodes. But it takes time. I know. I made the mistake of volunteering to transcribe Millar and Gough's commentary to "Rosetta" for a deaf friend ... and it took me about 30 minutes per minute of the episode to get it done! With commentaries, there aren't any lips to read. Shame that the DVDs stopped providing captioning for special features after season one.
Back on point. http://www.twiztv.com/scripts/smallville/
I just checked. They are a little behind. They only have 7 episodes transcribed so far this season.
As to "Mercy," I like the way it advanced the story arc and it really made me feel conflicted about Lionel's feelings for Martha. I was a great story all around ... but since no one else has commented on this, I will. Mark Twain said that you should never let the truth stand in the way of a great story. I have come to believe that, in "Smallville" the saying is "Never let physics stand in the way of a cool special effect." I know that a man that flies already sets the tone for letting go of all other considerations of plausibility ... but I have always felt that the writer and crew must do their utmost to preserve the suspension of disbelief as possible. I hope that there is an internal logic in the writer's mind as to how the fictional world works. Even if the viewer isn't hit over the head with the mechanics that the writer envisions, a cohesive structure under the story gives the story that sense of reality. The runaway elevator: how is crashing into Clark's steely grip any better than landing on those springs at the bottom of the shaft? There was a need for de-acceleration. I was waiting for Clark to leap up the shaft and make himself into a brace between the elevator and the wall so that the friction would slow the car to a stop. That would have been dramatic and would have satisfied the physics of the situation. And ... It would have given Lex a pair of ruts in the shaft wall to look at as well as the hole in the concrete wall.
Like I said, great episode. But I do run into a lot of comments from people who are distracted by things like that.
Ah, yes, the elevator. You know back in my early days, I wanted to be a biochemist. I loved science, and still do. So why would I write that Clark catches the elevator, even though I know in the real world it would still kill Martha and Lionel? One simple word:
MONEY.
That's right. The green stuff. The elevator idea was the brainchild of the director, James Marshall, and I think it was a brilliant addition. Originally, Clark was going to burst through a wall ABOVE the plummeting elevator, drop down on top, and slow it down with his bare hands. Unfortunately this proved to be way outside the budget. So we changed it Clark bursting through the wall at the bottom of the shaft, leaping up several stories, latching onto the bottom of the elevator, then again slowing it down with his hands before it hit bottom. Sadly, again too expensive with all the CGI.
So that's how it went from physically plausible to physically impossible. We have to work within the constraints of time and money, and sometimes logic gets sacrificed in the bloodletting.
Still kind of a cool moment, though, wasn't it?
Biochemist? See you really shouldn't mention that cuz after your last post at the Bronze, we Bronzers had this idea of you writing a CSI Script which lead to a lot of speculations wether it would contain cheese bondage and sex or not. *g*
To be honest, I was surprised that Alex (the burnt dead guy in the first room) didn't get up and walk out of the room, that would have completed the mov- *ahem* I mean, episode for me.
Sorry, that's my twisted sense of humor coming into play.
This episode was good. I could have used more than 1 Lana scene, but other than that, I didn't mind this episode at all. It's next weeks that I have to be leery about.
Hats off to James Marshall. I was supposed to direct this episode, but was tied up with other obligations. He stepped in at the last minute and did a fantastic job, just like he did on Splinter. Thanks, James!
You'll find out in Oracle, which I think is the week after next.
