Wow, thanks again for all the amazing response to Die, Die Die My Denton (pt. I). Its nice to see the ball get rolling. I think everyone should check out this blog. Its a good starting place and has some good ideas on what we can do to help stop this. The whole situation sickens me. I've had several suggestions on what we should do to help. One was a benefit show with local bands. I like this idea but keep in mind that is should raise awareness not money. At this point I don't think that money will help. I've been trying to look into how an area become a historic district (an idea proposed by the Denton Scramble). Unfortuantely I haven't been able to get much going in this direction. The first step seems to be contacting the local historical commission (located in the Courthouse on the Square). I have been unable to do this as my work schedule and their hours of operation don't coincide. There have been several groups forming on myspace to help combat this. I think it would be better if there was only one as we could unite and organize better. Afterall we all share a common goal.

So, instead of complain who actually wants to something. I make no gaurantees whether this idea will work or not but at least it will get the word out. Given our ages its easy to forget there are people who don't spend the bulk of there day on the internet and even (gasp) people who don't have myspace accounts! Many of these people moved to Denton to get away from gentrified places like Plano, Lewisville, etc. They don't know what is happening to Fry St. and while they may not regualarly go there they don't want what is being proposed happening to their town. I suggest we get together (Sunday the 14th maybe?) and break off into small groups and go door to door spreading the word in different areas of town. I'll have handouts printed out in advance to give to pass out. Maybe even get an email list together so we can inform them about when the zoning change meetting takes place. I think if enough concerned citizens come out to the zoning meeting this might make a huge difference.
Now to all of you who think this whole situation is hopeless. If we don't do anything we will definitely lose Denton (not just Fry St.). If we do something there is still the possibility of losing Denton & Fry St. but we might save them as well and at least in retropect we will at least know we tried to do something.

This is a great idea!  I will talk to a couple of journalist friends of mine and see if they might be able to do a story about this topic.

Interesting new development! A friend just informed me that if a member of the city council has a conflict of interest then a judge can grant a temporary injuction. I realize we can't afford a lawyer to present this and I'm also aware this city is soooo corrupt and we would be going up against a lawyer but if nothing else it would buy time which is the one thing that is extremely precious right now. Its certainly worth a shot and should definitely be examined.
