Hey there! Hope you had a good weekend. Interesting story: So, I have Google alerts set up for both myself and Seventeen (so I can know when we're in the news). So Friday night, I get my Google alert email, and one of the links was to (yet another) blog that was saying really rude things about me (saying that I looked like the mask from Saw). See below - how flattering, right? Anyway - as I was reading this guy's blog, I thought to myself, this is the kind of person I'd be FRIENDS with in real life. What on earth is inspiring a random guy in UTAH who doesn't know me to be saying such mean things (The truth is, I'm always up for learning - like, maybe I've been doing something inadvertantly that's been sending the wrong signal, who knows??).
So I sent him a really short MySpace message saying "Why so mean?". Well, I got an apology and he took the post down. Basically he said that he never expected that I'd see the blog and that it's easy to be mean online and make jokes at other people's expense. I could tell he felt badly - he's not a bad person, but the web sometimes dehumanizes people.
That got me thinking about the fact that when I was your age there WAS no web and most people didn't have cell phones (Oh stop! I'm not THAT old!). So having said that, do you mind if I ask you a bunch of questions? I'm working on a big speech for later this month and I really value your opinions. So don't hold back (as if you would! ha!). 10 questions - I know it's a lot - BUT I WILL BE SO GRATEFUL!!!!!!!
1- What websites do you like the best? Why? 2- Do you prefer My Space or Facebook? Why? 3- How do you feel when you get advertisements texted to your cell phones? 4- Which ad campaigns are your favorites and why? How about the WORST? Why? 5- When do you notice advertisements the most? When watching TV, online, reading a magazine, etc.? 6- What is your favorite form of entertainment? TV shows, websites, magazines, radio? (don't worry - i won't get offended!) 7- How do you feel about ads before movies? How about ads before videos (like did you see the MTV VMA website??)? 8- Do you do other things while you're doing homework? Like watch TV or IM? 9-What's the best invention that's come into your life lately? 10-I'm speaking to a group of entertainment executives (tv, radio, wireless, all of it) - is there anything you want them to know so they can create better products for you?? Think of me as your mouthpiece! And don't be too tired from all my questions to answer this one - it's important because these people WILL listen to us/you! :)
IF YOU CAN LET ME KNOW THIS WEEK THAT WOULD BE GREAT!
xoxo
