Hello Myspace friends!

This is the third time I've tried to post this... hopefully it will go this time!

Just wanted to post the latest Scopitones newsletter and let you know that the first Emo's date on the concert list is wrong, and for some reason will not delete.

Here's some juicy news anyway!

HELLO from Scopitones, the home of Cinerama and The Wedding present.

NEW WEDDING PRESENT ALBUM : TITLE AND RELEASE PARTY ANNOUNCED
UK SUMMER FESTIVALS : SECOND DATE ADDED
DIGITAL DOWNLOADS : GEDGE & DE CASTRO LIVE AT SXSW

NEW WEDDING PRESENT ALBUM : TITLE AND RELEASE PARTY ANNOUNCED

The title of the new Wedding Present album will be EL REY, which means 'the king' in Spanish. The LP, which is being scheduled for a May 2008 release was recorded and mixed in Chicago by Steve Albini. Speaking in the current issue of the UK's MOJO magazine, Wedding Present head honcho David Gedge says: "I've been living in West Hollywood for the last year or so, and while I'm not going to claim that this is my 'L. A.' album, there are some references, I suppose. The album themes are lust, jealousy, betrayal, regret, obsession, super-heroes… the usual! We chose to record with Steve this time because the new songs were sounding very guitarry and quite dark. It's been good. As you'd imagine, really; Albini knows his stuff". The Wedding Present's 'George Best' album goes on to feature in the same magazine's list of Top 50 'Indie' records.

To celebrate the new album's release the band have confirmed that they are to play a full set at the "El Rey Release Party", a special event taking place at The Corn Exchange, Brighton, England, on Friday 30 May 2008. It will be the band's first appearance in Brighton in over three years. In addition to 'Special Guests' there will be a few other surprises, the details of which will be revealed in future newsletters. It is an 'all ages' show [under 14's must be accompanied by an adult] and tickets are available from: http://www.seetickets.com/?c=299717&filler2=299717

UK SUMMER FESTIVALS : SECOND DATE ADDED

In our previous mailing we announced that The Wedding Present would be playing on the Isle Of Wight as part of this year's 'Bestival' in September. We are now pleased to tell you about another festival appearance. The band will be headlining the 'Indietracks' Festival on July 26th. This unique event takes place on a 1950s steam railway in Derbyshire, England and as well as being able to watch over forty bands [including our old friends Ballboy and Darren Hayman from Hefner] festival goers will be allowed unlimited rides on the steam railway over the weekend and full access to the railway attractions. The event takes place at the Swanwick Junction station site of the Midland Railway Butterley, Ripley, Derbyshire. For further information visit http://www.indietracks.co.uk/ and http://www.bestival.net/

DIGITAL DOWNLOADS : GEDGE & DE CASTRO LIVE AT SXSW

Scopitones recently signed a digital distribution deal which means that Wedding Present and Cinerama fans will now be able to purchase Scopitones releases from their favourite digital download sites. In honour of this new partnership, David Gedge and Terry de Castro have agreed to a special duet performance in Austin, Texas to help kick off the South By South West Music Festival for our new digital distributor, IODA.

The concert is part of the IODA's 'Opening Day Bash' and will take place at Emo's Annex [603 Red River, Austin, TX] on Wednesday 12 March. David & Terry will be the last act to appear, at 5PM, but the event starts around noon and is free and open to the public. Other artists scheduled to play are Sean Hayes, Jason Collett, Chikita Violenta, Frightened Rabbit, Curumin, Modey Lemon, Chris Bathgate, Emily Jane White and Oliver Future. All the artists are represented by IODA and will be featured on their free SXSW music sampler. To hear this collection of music, go to www.iodasxsw.com.

The Young Vanish

Steve Albini! Cool! Does that mean we can expect something of similar magnitude to "Seamonsters" ?

And Ripley! Cool! 200 miles less far to travel!

Steam trains! Cool! etc.

Toledo Ohio.

A new album with Steve Albini...if I were a wordsmith the likes of David Gedge, I could convey my happiness with pinpoint accuracy. Since I'm not, I'll just have to say that I CAN'T WAIT to hear it! I hope that we get to see The Wedding Present play in California again sometime soon. I'll keep my paws crossed!
