Current mood:  bored

This song is about various hugely emotive subjects.

1. Suicide
2. Sudden loss
3. Survivor's guilt
4. Love and friendship

Recently I stumbled across a website which contains obituaries of MySpace members, and links to their profiles. Reading through the stories deeply affected me.

Life is extremely fragile. I have had various experiences during my life which have taught me so. In fact I grew up believing that life was a blessing to me. As a newborn baby a gastroenteritis infection spread throughout the ward I was in, killing the vast majority of newborns around me. Is life random? Is our destiny preset? Such questions have plagued me throughout my life.

The fact that I've had the tag of "spared" hanging over my life right from the beginning has meant that my life has been an endless quest to find out why.

Death is such a weighty subject, particularly sudden death. A slight change of routine can result in death or survival. A case in point is a story from the London bombings on July 7th 2005. One lady was killed because she spent an extra few minutes in bed with her partner telling him how much she loved him. She missed her normal train, and ended up being caught up in the bomb blasts. Survivors who are saved by a slight change of routine are often haunted now by each decision they take.

"Oak Creek Angels" is dedicated to anyone who has suffered the sudden loss of a loved one. Those who are left behind have so many conflicting emotions, guilt, regret, and helplessness. It is also dedicated to those who feel so abandoned by all of those "close" to them that they see no way out of their troubles.

Next time I'll try to write a happier song, haha :)

Dave

I've added the lyrics below if you want to read them :)

Deep as the plot to an amateur gay porn !!!

Only kiddin Dave....this is good stuff....nice song. Keep up the good work.

This song struck a chord with me ( EXCUSE THE PUN) cos I lost my mother quite suddenly In 1995....

Nice to see someone writing songs with meaning rather than just rhyming "love" with "above" and the usual sort of crap that floats around..

We gotta get giggin soon mate..

Cheers

i just lost a close friend less than a year ago, so it's nice having a song i can relate to... and, moreso, a song that's worth relating to.

thanks.

thanks chelsea. losing someone close is terrible to deal with, particularly when it appears to be well "before their time". it is therefore important to treasure every moment we spend with those we love, and to tell them that we love and care about them.

it's good to have people to share life experiences with, good or bad, be it on myspace or in the real world!!

my two main talents as a musician, seem to be putting people to sleep, or making them cry! hahaha :)

What's that site with the obituaries? I'm not morbid or anything. But, I get alot out of reading things of that nature. It makes me realize that every little thing I bitch about is insignifcant.

The Elephant of Surprise

So very rare that someone writes about the genuinely scary things in life; we fear what we dont understand- its cliched but no less true. Yeah and I do believe we all have a destiny but i also believe it is meaningless to actively search for it we can only do what we think will have beneficial effects for those around us and hope it doesnt fuck us in the long run. Cracker wee song tho. Nice one

I love this song -  genuinely moving. Great work, and, if I may say so, a very brave piece of writing (I think our minds naturally shy away from the inevitable fact that we will lose loved ones and be forced to somehow deal with this loss; it takes guts to confront these issues) Really looking forward to hearing the cd.

Dave,

Just wanted to let you know that I finally got to hear this song all the way through...it keeps wanting to stop about halfway through...

Oak Creek Angels is a hauntingly beautiful song, and the fact that it tells the truth about life, makes it even more beautiful...Would it be possible to get a copy of the lyrics?...

Writing is about what's in your head and/or heart at any given moment...You know exactly what to do with what you are feeling and thinking...It is a pleasure to listen to your music, simply because of that...My problem is I don't know how to put the random thoughts/feelings into a workable melody...Maybe someday, when I am finally on the green green grass of Beloved Eire, that ability will be shown to me...

Keep up the good work...

Many Blessings,

Paula

cheers dave. i really appreciate it. the underlying message (actually i hate that word, cos i'm not here to preach, just to express myself) in the song, is that sometimes in life we make big mistakes, by turning a blind eye towards those we love, when they are in need. i've had to learn that lesson the hard way. i've been through a very difficult period in my life recently, and many of my friends simply disappeared when i needed them.

unfortunately many of our "friends" only want our company in the good times, and as a result of my experience, i've made a personal pledge to hang in there with people who keep pushing me away when i offer help and support, because now i know they are the ones who most need it.
