I'm honored that so many people are relating to the song, "Always a Rebel." Thank you for clicking through to read this page.
We're in the home stretch now, and the music video, which I shot last fishing season off the Pribilof Islands, is almost ready. We're in the process of setting up a download scenario that will be fast, easy, and most of all, secure. I've been looking at several options and the song, AND the video, will soon be available for immediate download.
In the meantime, please send me an email and let me know you'd like a copy of the song (and/or) video when they finally become available for download. I'll add you to the list and as soon as the video is ready, and the new processing is in place, I'll send you an email with the link included. Sound good? Go ahead and send me an email here on myspace and I'll add you to the list. Be sure to check out the song's story and also the lyrics... which I've included below. VJ
SONG INFO: "Always a Rebel" is inspired by, and written in honor of, my many friends who brave the Bering sea every fishing season. When I was in Dutch Harbor last year, Matt Renner, the Producer of the Deadliest Catch came up to me in the lobby of the Grand Aleutian hotel and asked if I'd write a song for the show. I told him I had no idea about that kind of stuff and he just said: "You know the life, this is your element, these are your friends, who better to write a song in honor of them?" I went back to my room, thought about all the fishermen I know, all the stories we've all shared from our experiences out on the open sea, and the fact that we're basically just rebels, looking for ways to live on the edge, outside the box, and in two days, I'd written the song "Always a Rebel," which Matt, Leslie, Tom and Naomi over at the Deadliest Catch were excited to hear. The rest is history. I sincerely hope this song brings honor and respect for those men and women who work so hard each fishing season, on one of the blackest, coldest, and most deadly seas in the world. Enjoy the song. And if you're in the commercial fishing industry in Dutch Harbor, Alaska, just know that this song is for you. In honor of you. (by the way, the "wavin' my fist" line in the song is written for (and about) Zac McFarlane, Directory of Photography on the Deadliest Catch. I was in the process of writing the song and one night, Josh Harris (from the Cornelia Marie), and Zac came into the lobby of the Grand Aleutian Hotel, where I was staying during my time in Dutch Harbor last season. Josh sat down in the seat net to me and starting telling me how Zac had gone out on the deck of the Cornelia Marie after filming one night, during a raging October Bering Sea storm, deck pitching all over the place, rigging howling, waving his fists at the torment, shouting: "Is that all you got? Bring it on!!!"... very cool... I just HAD to write a line in the song memorializing that story). Fishermen, be proud of who you are and what you do. Much love! See you at the Cape Bar!

"ALWAYS A REBEL"
-Bering Sea Fishermen's Anthem-

for the hit Discovery Channel program
The Deadliest Catch
(Episode 52: "The Final Hour")
Rose from the bottom
to the top of the game
now in every port around the world
they know us by name
we're superstitious
so you better watch what you say
we rule these waters
from St. Lawrence to Bristol Bay
yeah, we play hard,
never run from a fight
yeah, we talk loud
and we've earned the right... damn right
we hear the storm warning
and we head out anyway
we hear the storm warning
and we head out anyway
once a rebel, always a rebel, now
born to live
the greatest stories ever told
beneath dark October skies
in search of fishermen's gold
these eyes have seen things
human eyes seldom see
I've stood tall in places
most men couldn't stand to be
yeah, like a pitchin' deck
in the middle of a storm
yeah, wavin' my fists shoutin'
bring it on, come on, bring it on!
CHORUS
it's always one hell of a ride...
There's nothin' like dancin
on the edge of neptune's trident
to bring a hard man to his knees
beggin' for his life
starin' into the face
of the dark bering sea
you'll meet the baddest bad
bad could ever be
oh yeah
we ply our fortunes
in the birthplace of fear
and yeah
we keep coming back, year after year...
and we're still here...
CHORUS
