Note: there are three stanza in a tri-Ukiah

see Scotorum's example in the comments below!!!

Thanks Jo For the wonderful Poetry Challenge Posters you created for each Catagory!!!!  You So ROCK

Here is how the contest is going to work:

Cheryl has posted a blog for each poetry catagory up on her personal profile.  These blogs are set to preffered for the Judges.  As poems are sent in via message to the CPCCC Cheryl will post the poem in the comments of the blog for that catagory on her personal profile.  First the judges will determine the "Judges Choice" for their judging catagory.  Then the Judges will send me which poem in their catagory won the Judges Choice.

Next I will ask each judge to post a blog in their blogspace for the popular vote.  I will post a blog here with links to each of the judges blogs on the CPCCC. EVERYONE Should be PIMPING the vote out, but without indicating your poem.  Once voting is closed the Judges will send me a message telling me which poem got the popular vote.

Winners for the Judges Choice and the Popular Vote will be announced on Sunday 31 August with the poem and certificates ...... I hope Many of you will submit poems :)

New: If there are enough entries for both regular Poem and PIC in poem in the catagories there will be two awards in the judging/popular vote - one for best poem and one for best PIC'n Poem.

Rules:  USE DayDreamers Profile Art for insperation, You need to go to DayDreamers Profile and choose a PIC from her page :)  There are many to choose from!!!!, include the PIC with your submission.  Judges may enter poems for catagories other than their own.  PIC'n Poems cannot have your name on them.

To enter please send in your poem 17-20 August

Place the catagory in the message title

NEW: Please only one entry per catagory

I will save the entries in my saved messages so I can keep things straight. (I hope LMAO)

Ask questions in the comments here - I may have forgot something If I have then I'll add it below in this blog

Be Creative and have FUN

Include a copy of the profile art you used for your poem.  To do that Highlight the art and save to your PICs then upload to a photo hosting site like Photobucket.com - place the HTML code in with your submission.  If you are a non-friend of the CPCCC you must make a friend request and tell me you are entering the DayDreamer Poetry Contest. Once the friend request is approved you may send in your poem with PIC or PIC'n Poem.  MySpace does not allow HTML in messages to non-friends.

NEW: When making a friend request please tell me you are entering the Daydreamer Profile Art Poetry Contest.

******THIS IS A PRE-APPROVED BLOGDICK******
REGARDING THE ETHEREE

Cheryl told me to blogdick right here, and post this comment about the "Earthy Etheree" challenge that I'll be judging as part of the Daydreamer Poetry Contest.

In answer to some of the participants questions, we will be allowing the double etheree and the reverse etheree.

I will be posting a blog today on my page giving some examples of etherees, in addition to the one in the above poster. The standard etheree starts with one syllable in the first line, increases from one syllable in each line to ten in the last line. The reverse etheree begins with ten syllables and decreases by one syllable, with one syllable in the last line. The double etheree has 20 lines and is basically a combination of an etheree and a reverse etheree (in either order). WE WILL NOT ALLOW TRIPLE ETHEREES due to length and time constraints.

Message me if any further questions, and good luck!!!
HUGS......

From Bob on the Tri-Ukiah

Scotorum (Pronounce carefully)

Here is an example I just wrote, based on the pic in the middle of the banner above:

TRYSTING

(A Triple Ukiah)

Midnight in the blue lagoon.
Two lovers at play,
sharing the joys of their love.

Skinny dipping in the dark.
All is silent, calm,
except for their beating hearts.

Bodies touching in the warm
shimmering water.
quivering in ecstasy.

© 2008 RGD

The Ukiah is a reverse Haiku. Haiku is a Japanese poem form usually composed of three lines of 5, 7 and 5 syllables respectively. The Ukiah is three lines of 7, 5 and 7 syllables.

The Ukiah was invented a little over a year ago, when Lady "Cheryl" Death tried to write a Haiku in a MySpace IM we were in, and inadvertently got the syllable count wrong. Instead of 5-7-5, hers was 7-5-7. I pointed that out to her, noting that the syllable count was exactly the reverse of a Haiku.

We joked that she had created a new poem format, and since it was a sort of reverse Haiku, I reversed the word Haiku itself, and suggested we call her format an Ukiah (pronounced Oo-kah). Soon after that Cheryl held an Ukiah writing contest on her blog, which proved to be very popular. So you could say the Ukiah format was invented by mistake and named in a MySpace IM, and popularized on MySpace, perhaps the first and only new poetry format to claim such an origin.

Haikus are sometimes written in two, three, or even more stanzas, so why not Ukiahs too? That's the challenge of this contest: to write a three stanza Ukiah on a single theme based on an image in the group on CPCCC Pal Daydreamer's profile page. It could be the image in the banner above that I wrote my example from, or a different image from her page. The important thing is to enjoy trying out this easy-to-write format (I wrote the one above in less than fifteen minutes). Good luck! :-)

OK - this sounds like fun and I'd like to submit a poem for several categories.
Do I send an e-mail message to you with the poem and pic in the body?
I guess I'll just see the code, not the image, there?

Yes, you will have to copy the PIC you choose from Daydreamers profile to your files and then upload the PIC to photobucket (I think - unless clicking on the PIC takes you to Photobucket) so you can get the code to place in your message.

Please remember to put the catagory of the contest in the title of your message.

I like Ukiahs.

They are really fun to read.

Not so easy to write, though, for me.

Bob is the Ukiah Master. I often wonder if he speaks in Uhiah...

"the Walk"

a boy and a girl go hand in hand....
ever so gently the children walk into the 'great' unkown...
life is like that sometimes that a hand is needed for you to start the walk...
hold the hands close and truly show no fear when two hands are clasped....
"what will they find when they reach the end of the journey?"
take a walk and see what you will find on this day...
when the two children walk together hand in hand.....

P.S. last pic I saw was a little girl and boy walking hand in hand...
hope I did this right?
