Ok, for everyone wondering, I am not officially in Guinea. Made it safely. The plane rides totalled 26 hours (Seattle to Guinea) by the end I think. If they hadn't needed me in WA DC they probably could have put me on Air-France's direct flight-Seattle to Paris. Oh well. WA DC's gathering was alright. Good to see the other four who were leaving from the states. Sad to see that there were only four, but you live. :)
Can't sleep on planes, so I crashed at the Paris airport. Lied down on the floor and just passed out. Apparently, I got some weird looks, but I hadn't had a solid nights sleep in three days so I felt I deserved the shut-eye. We got into Conakry at around 9:00 pm, and all of our luggage made it--Yay! This was especially surprising since they had taken my larger carry-on at the WA DC airport, saying it was too big (it's always worked before). They did it with attitude too. A Scandanavian airline did it once, but they told the truth--it's because the booked the flight so full, they needed the space above. Then I watched 20 people get on the plane with carry-ons much bigger than mine. Fuckers. I knew I didn't like Air France ever since they screwed people in Peace Corps Guinea--now it's definite. Boo to Air-France!
So, Guinea doesn't seem to have changed. I expected to be more surprised by it though, due to my five months in the states, but no--feels like Guinea. And it's rainy season, so I feel like I'm home almost. :) hehe I walk down the street speaking random SuSu to people. Market ladies and everyone are excited to see us again. All 8 of us. :) We'll be 16 by the end of September, but that's still not very much. All of us look forward to the new group that will come in December. But in the mean time, we're enjoying each other's company.
Ok...that's it for now.
Miss all my friends and family a ton (special shot out to Ryan of course--mwah!).
