80. DREAM SEQUENCE-INT. NEUTRALIZER-TRAINING ROOM
Angles on a nine year old Palpatine. He is standing in the center of a sparring circle, clutching a lightsaber that looks oversized in his childish hands. An ominous shadows emerges from the foreground and swallows the child in darkness.
Plagueis
There is no fear.
Young Palpatine
There is power.
Plagueis
You have memorized the words, but do you understand them? Do you have the strength to overcome everything you are afraid of to get what you want?
Young Palpatine
I am afraid of nothing.
Plagueis
Prove it. Draw your sword.
Young Palpatine ignites his lightsaber.
Plagueis
(cont'd)
You'll notice that the safety settings have been removed from your lightsaber. From now on, your weapon is fully lethal. Now, do you vow to do everything I tell you?
Young Palpatine
Yes, Master.
Plagueis
Good. Here is my order: I want you to strike me down and kill me.
Young Palpatine
What?!
Plagueis
Did I speak a language you do not understand! I told you to kill me! Now do it!
Young Palpatine is a bit unsure, but he charges anyway. The fight is fairly short. Plagueis knocks the lightsaber out of his hands and kicks him to the ground, placing the heel of his boot into Palp's Adam's Apple.
Plagueis
Who has the power?
Young Palpatine
You have the power, Master.
Plagueis unleashes an unending stream of Force Lightning onto the boy. Palpatine curls into a ball, screaming frantically.
Plagueis
Then why did you disobey a direct order! As long as you live, NEVER fail me! Do you understand?
Young Palpatine
Yes Master!
Plagueis
Good.
Plagueis intensifies the lightning. Palpatine's screams become louder.
81. INT. SNEED MANOR, GUEST BEDROOM- MORNING
Palpatine lies in the guest bed, his head turning back and forth as he dreams. Jennis enters, carrying a wet towel. She starts to apply the towel to Palpatine's forehead, but he wakes up and grabs her arm. He rises suddenly, but a searing pain in his abdomen forces him back down.
Palpatine
AAAAA!
Jennis
Easy now. You've got two cracked ribs. Any moving around could cause more problems, and you don't want that.
Palpatine
Where am I?
Jennis
You're in the home of Senator Sneed, and I am his daughter, Jennis.
Palpatine
You brought me into the Senator's house?
Jennis
We had to. The hospitals in Fitz City aren't accepting human patients while this conflict remains unsettled. My father won't mind. He's always talking about how no one ever helps anyone out anymore. Would you like to meet him?
Palpatine
That's not necessary. Where's my nurse?
Jennis
We have no nurse. Unless you count me.
Palpatine looks shocked.
Palpatine
You took care of me by yourself?
Jennis
Yes.
Palpatine
Why would you do that?
Jennis
Well… It's just the right thing to do, isn't it?
Palpatine
Yeah… Yeah, I guess it is.
Palpatine sinks his head further into his pillow. This is the first act of compassion he has ever received, and he is quite unsure of the feeling. Jennis lays a soft hand upon his forehead, and walks to your door. Reaching it, she turns a moment to ask a final question.
Jennis
I never got your name.
Palpatine
It's Dantius.
Jennis
Alright, Mister Dantius, get some rest. I'll be in to check on you later.
She exits, closing the door behind her. Palpatine lies there, silent, unsure of the feeling coursing through his entire body.
82. INT. SNEED MANOR, HALLWAY-CONTINUING
Jennis closes the door and turns to face Virzi, who has been standing there the whole time.
Virzi
I still think this is a bad idea.
Jennis
Why are you suspicious of this guy? You were the one who saved his life!
Virzi
I saved his life because that's what I do. But inviting this stranger into your house? I don't like it. What was he doing on that bridge anyway? And how in the hell did he get so close to us without me sensing his presence?
Jennis takes Virzi's hands into her own.
Jennis
I think your mind was a little preoccupied at the time.
Virzi
Maybe you're right, but I'm going to keep a close eye on him, nonetheless. I also think it's time we told your father.
Jennis
Fine, but I think he's going to take my side on this one.
83. INT. SNEED MANOR, DINING ROOM
Ronan is in the dining room with Marzan and Warren. He is scurrying around, packing up papers. The three of them are in mid conversation when Virzi and Jennis arrive. Virzi notices the looks of disdain upon the Jedi's faces at the mere sight of him.
Ronan
…and I need the report on Trandoshan engineering. Master Antilles, could you hand me that data disk over there?
Jennis
Father, I need to talk to you about something.
Ronan
Not now, honey. The Togs have agreed to hold a meeting with the Human leaders. This is the chance we need to maintain peace.
Jennis
This is important, there's-
Ronan
Warren, I left my notes over there. Could you hand them to me?
Jennis
We had a situation on the bridge-
Ronan
What am I forgetting?
Jennis
Virzi had to jump-
Ronan
How could I forget! My secretary needs this back.
Jennis
Dad, would you just listen for five-
Ronan kisses her forehead.
Listen, honey, I have to go. This conversation will have to wait until tonight, OK? I love you.
(to the Jedi)
Let's go.
Ronan exits, followed by Marzan and Warren. Jennis and Virzi stand side-by side, their expressions blank.
Virzi
On the bright side, we have 'til later before he kills the both of us.
BLACK OUT
84. INT. PYLAR, WAREHOUSE-NIGHT
The warehouse is deserted save for Tam. He is pacing back and forth, muttering to himself and shaking nervously. A door on the far side of the warehouse opens. A jumpy Tam jerks backward, knocking over a stack of barrels. Barlis enters, with seven goons at his side.
Barlis
You didn't run this time, Tam. I am quite impressed.
Tam
What can I say? I like to surprise people.
Barlis
Do you have the artifact on you?
Tam
Yes.
He pulls the holocron out and holds it up. Light dances off of it in a dazzling display, and Barlis and his men are drawn to it. Fascinated, they stare into it, almost trancelike.
Barlis
I think Vigo Marbossa will gladly take this in exchange for your life.
Tam
So we have a deal then? My debt is settled?
Barlis
Your debt is-
The main receiving doors to the warehouse rise up. On the other side stands a figure silhouetted by the light of the moon. One of Barlis's goons runs up to him, blaster drawn.
Goon 1
Who the hell are you?
Goon 1 is force pushed into a stack of barrels. The mysterious figure strides into the warehouse, and as the light washes over him he is revealed as Darth Plagueis. Tam turns a very unique shade of pale.
Plagueis
You have something that belongs to me.
Darth Plagueis unclips his lightsaber and fires it up.
Barlis
He's an assassin! Kill him!
Barlis's goons (Including Goon 1, who has picked himself out of the barrels) surround the Dark Lord of the Sith. Some carry blasters, others wield vibro-axes and pikes.
Barlis
(To Tam)
You sent him here to kill us!
Tam
No, wait, listen-
Barlis shoots him in the chest.
Laser bolts fire at Plagueis from all directions. He blocks a few of these, then force jumps backward over the head Goon1, stabbing him in the back as he lands. He deflects another blaster bolt into Goon 2. Goon 3 charges him with a vibro-ax. He swings a few times, with Plagueis deftly dodging each blow. He levitates him, and plunges his lightsaber into his chest. Three barrels rise on their own and crush Goon 4. Goon 5 has his pike extended, until Plagues force-pushes 6 onto it, impaling him. 5 drops the pike, unholsters his blaster and moves beside 7. The simultaneously fire shots at Plagueis. He runs up on them, deflecting the shots as he advances. He reaches them, and with one swift stroke of the lightsaber he decapitates them both. The bodies fall synchronously, like graceful dancers in a macabre play.
Barlis is the only one left. He and Plagueis stare each other down. As Plagueis moves to attack, he is brought down by the disease that threatens his life. He falls to his knees, clutching his stomach and shaking uncontrollably. Barlis walks up to him.
Barlis
I think we have a very sick person here.
(points the blaster at Plagueis's head)
I am going to enjoy this very much, stranger. Those guys were close friends of me. We were pals. They even-
Barlis's face turns red. He stumbles backward, clutching his throat.
Plagueis
The first rule of survival: When you have the chance to kill your enemy, do not talk him to death.
Barlis crashes to the floor. Plagueis rises, stumbles, picks himself up again and limps over to Tam. Mr. Whiting is not completely dead. He stares up into the Sith's eyes. Plagueis reaches down and removes the holocron from his right hand.
Plagueis
No damage at all. My lucky day.
Tam
What… is… it?
Plagueis
This, my friend, is a holocron made by the great Sith Lord Darth Trepid. In it, he recounts all of his greatest achievements in the dark arts. This relic holds in it the solution to the greatest mystery of the universe: How to cheat death! Ironic, isn't it, that the item that everyone is trying to kill you over is the one thing that can save your life?
Plagueis looks down at Tam, who has died.
Plagueis
(cont'd)
Hmm, I guess the irony is lost on you.
