The last show went well. We, or actually I, didn't play everything "right on" last night but the fact that Danny got up on stage and sang 3! yes, 3 of his songs made up for it. He sang Sounds in the Silence, What Goes Up Must Come Down and Black Black Black with us and it was really fantastic! At least it was for me.
As usual I didn't know what to expect with Danny and earlier that night I'd really gotten used to the idea that he wasn't going to come. I had called him numerous times throughout the day and hadn't been able to get him on the phone. But, an hour before we played I finally got him on the phone and after repeating myself a few times he finally said he wanted to come down for the show.
After Byron and I picked him up and brought him to the RecordBar, Danny asked me for a set list. "I would like to see a set list."
Of course I was flipping out that he might want to pick what song he wanted to do. I got him a set list, brought him a beer and sat down with him. Since this was going to be the last show I was a little more insistent about trying to see if he would sing with us.
" If we're playing and I call out 'Danny, do you want to do What Goes Up Must Come Down?' will you come up and sing with us?" I asked him.
"As long as I'm not unconscious." Danny said and started silently laughing. Which was funny and also sad at the same time. I laughed because it was an unexpected response from him and I'd never heard him make a joke before. I'm glad he came out and did some songs with us.
