River Card

(based on a Puerto Rican short story, "There's a Little Colored Boy at the Bottom of the River" about a lonely kid who stares into the river and sees a boy (his own reflection) and thinks its someone at the bottom of the river and he like falls in love with his reflection or whatever and drowns.)

I turned them all away
I turned it all away
when i leave there's nothing left to say
i won't answer my phone
you call it all you want
river runs and takes the boats away
i thought i'd never see
river so clear and mean
how many others have you drowned?
river's bottom dark and blue
why do i love you so?
river so clear and blue
i'm so in love with you, but you'll drown me.
you'll drown me.
river so clear and blue
what it takes to ignore you
how many boys have you drowned?
chokes me until i'm dead
there are places in my head
that i could never conquer.
river so clear and blue,
i am in love with you.
river's bottom dark and blue,
why do i love you?
you'll drown me.
you'll drown me.
etc.

QUARANTINED:
(a song about an article I read about children with AIDS)

Quarantined and kept so far away from my friends.
I am waiting to be changed.

ON GUARD:
(a song about how it was easier to make friends and be social when i was younger and did more drugs)

always on guard
i'm trying to make friends but i'm always on guard.

WINTER VACATION:
(a song about a trip i took to a beach around christmas with my family when i was a kid)

i've seen waves, hushed and soaked in static.
i've seen ice laced with foam -
darkened beach at noon.
fires in unresolved corners
the difference between land and sea.
i shore dissolve in fog.
i've seen rain when it smashed against the ground.
i've seen rain...River Card

the lyrics for recent bedroom are really simple and short:

i walked outside
i could not cry
i don't know why

it was written about a family experience i had when my aunt on my dad's side of the family passed away and the family was gathered at her house in mourning. i was in the midst of my stoned teenage days and was really emotionally numb and felt bad because everyone was crying and i could not feel anything. so i went for a walk outside and just remembered feeling really vacant and in some weird way liberated.

Thank you, Bradford. I spoke with you outside once, after a show at the Noon in Madison, WI. You asked me if I was high. I said yes! Then my friends and I asked you'd like to come and smoke, and you went on saying how crazed you thought our cities herb was. That was a great night. Thanks again. I love you.

I have always understood "Quarantined" in a different way, in fact, I used to link it to those summer feelings when you find yourself notwhereyouwanttobe and you cannot help yourself feeling as if you were in exile, reading music magazines, knitting and watching porn while you expect something to change, you or your circumstances, but something (please).

I guess the stuff about children with AIDS is much more relevant, but we all end up interpreting reality according to our own miseries.

amazing song, anyway.

ps. sorry for my english, not native speaker...
