So I got to play the Grand Old Opry tonight with Ricky Skaggs, Del McCoury, Little Jimmy Dickens and Terri Clark. I gotta tell ya it is a huge honor to stand on that stage where my heroes stood. I'm always really nervous there, like I'm being judged by country music legends. I hope i didn't look as nervous as I felt--but you can always count on the TV lens to tell the truth!
I moved to Nashville in 1997 I was 24 and green as the pastures of my Grandparents' farm. I left my home town on my birthday (July 29th) and finally got here August 4th. I remember thinking it felt like it was 150 degrees standing on the blacktop downtown. The Ryman was the first place I wanted to see, it was the the place I wanted to play more than anywhere in the world. Well, when I walked up the last tour of the day had just ended. They were closing and I thought I'd have to come back another day. However, as luck would have it, a security guard took pity on me and walked me in for my own personal tour. He showed me around the whole place giving me some history as we walked. Eventually we got to the stage and I remember being in awe. He let me walk out and stand where I stood tonight and I as looked out into the empty room I imagined a crowd. I imagined people being there to see me. But I never could have imagined the emotions that run through ya as your standing there. It's overwhelming to look back on all the hard work and years that I've spent working for this dream to come true! I feel very blessed to be able to live out that fantasy, and I hope I'm always nervous when I stand on that stage. I know that feeling will keep me grounded and take me back to my first days in Nashville--with no clue where this journey would take me.

Saw your performance via the televison! You looked so at ease and comfortable up there on at that stage! Right at home! I truly hope in my heart of hearts you will be performing there many more times in your long and forthcoming career! I am looking forward to the albums release! It will be my birthday present to myself, since my birthday is the 5th. Good luck and hope to see you in Washington state sometime soon.

James, I thought you looked excited to be at the Opry, perhaps it was nervousness. Whatever it was, it shows your respect of the history and importance of The Ryman and The Opry.
Enjoyed your chat with Nan too.
Continued success...Caroline

I knew from the first time i met you that you would be there. I sat and chatted with you all the way to Kansas City when you sang the National Anthem at the NASCAR race. I worked for KLEENEX do you remember? haha As soon as I got to my hotel room I instantly opened the laptop and began searching. When I found the song "Just got started lovin you" I told each of those girls that you were gonna make it BIG. Here you are James. Keep rockin..your voice is a different sound for country music. KEEP ON KEEPIN ON!!! My motto I have carried through life I will now pass along....."Follow your dreams...and enjoy the ride!" YOU ARE AWESOME!!!

As a musician making it to the big world llike yourself, I can't imagine. I wish you the best!

Your living the dream now, man. It's going to be, and already has been, an incredible ride. This journey of yours is going to take you right to the top where you belong. It's taken some time, but you have to grow into the place where you are supposed to be, mentally and emotionally, to prepare yourself for all that is to come, before you can arrive there. Well, now you're there.

Your blog moved me, my friend. Thank you for sharing these memories with us. You give us all hope and inspiration that if we work hard enough, we can be standing on our own personal stages, watching our dreams come true.

It all comes back to a full circle James... "YOU" will always know where you started and where you end. The beginning is to believe and the ending is to live! From the moment I heard you sing this song I knew just how big it would make your circle! HUGE! So enjoy the journey and make sure and travel that circle often so you never forget!

Please watch for my lastest reviews on some great bands I think you will appreciate them. Maybe someday I will get to write one on you.

smiles,

It just goes to show the kind of people that are in Nashville. Most people are like "sorry...we're closed"....but Nashvillian's are a different breed of people. They just ooze kindness. Just like when this crazy middle aged women told you that you were the one of the best she'd ever heard. I'm so thankful that you didn't have me committed or arresting for stalking! This is just a step on the bottom of the ladder for you....and the only way for you is UP! So, start practicing on that stairmaster, we're climbing to the top and ain't gonna stop!

A gazillion Otto kudos!

Awesome performance! And now I have learned we share the same birthday, how cool is that? I visited the Grand Ole Opry House on my birthday in 2006, when my dear friend Ray Scott was performing. He wished me a Happy Birthday from the Opry Stage, made me cry.

Unfortunately I don't have television. This has been about the only time in the last three years that I have really wanted to watch something really bad. Anyway I am sure you did fine. Living out in the middle of nowhere I sure I wouldn't have been able to see it if I did have television. Hope you are feeling better and give Amy our love.

Very well written! I don't regret for a minute that I left Nashville but you make me remember my dream. It must feel real good! Different dreams are good though too. Last night I cried with my little girl that was so tired and weak from a cold . It is such an amazing bond between mother and child. I wish for you great success and I hope in return that you wish for me to always be "the best mom in the world" (she won't be six forever you know!).
I am so proud of you James!!!! You are an amazing talent and a beautiful person!

I was so lost in your performance. I hope you come to Southern Illinois area often. I wish that I could have had my picture taken with you so I could put it on my profile page and become one of you Ottomanic fans. You right there in my top artists and keep up the excellent work.
