Dear writers, MySpace friends and colleagues:
I'm writing to share some really good news. After almost ten years, I have another book coming out. Bloomsbury U.S./UK is publishing my memoir Love Junkie next fall, 2008. I can hardly believe it!
That's also the reason some of you haven't heard from me in a while. I totally hid out in order to finally write this long overdue second book. I'm sure you understand.
I just got the great news that the editor loves the book. And – she wants me to fill out this super-detailed author questionnaire – by THIS TUESDAY, November 13th.
You all have been so helpful in the past. I'm writing to ask you all a huge favor now.
If you have any concrete contacts, (with names, emails, addresses, phone numbers), for any book reviewing blogs; book buzz blogs; periodicals, magazines, newspapers for reviews or excerpts; any TV shows; any radio; film possibilities; even bookstores for readings; book clubs – any entity that might be interested in speaking with me or reviewing the book, or if you yourself might be interested – would you let me know ASAP? I need to give Bloomsbury a complete and detailed contact list this Tuesday.
Let me tell you a bit more about the book. Love Junkie is an addiction memoir, but people are telling me it's groundbreaking because it is covering one of the lesser known addictions: love and sex, romance, intrigue. What I call love junkies. I think a lot of people are going to relate to this subject.
The book is a personal narrative. One Bloomsbury write-up says this:
"Love Junkie is the story of one woman's dangerous addiction to sex and love. Rachel was a writer living in LA but put her creative energy into romantic obsessions, which almost destroyed her life. What we realize over the course of her journey is that while Rachel's story is an extreme one, we live in a culture where romantic obsession is stoked by the stories we read, the movies we see, the dreams we're fed."
In addition to literary venues, the book might very well appeal to or interest those in recovery work, therapy, university psych courses in chemical dependency, and so forth. Ideas and contacts in those areas are welcome as well.
I know you are all busy as well. I hope you are all thriving and doing fantastically. I hope very much I see all of you soon.
I'll keep you informed about the book, if you like. If you want to be removed from this list, just let me know.
Thanks so much in advance. All of your support, encouragement, enthusiasm and own work has been a constant inspiration to me over the years – the long years between that first book and now. I really appreciate any information, ideas and contacts you'd feel like sharing.
Rachel
