Lodge Kerrigan and New Yorker Films
A proposal for
a possible long-term relationship.
Background:
Lodge Kerrigan has a certain form of deathly, ghostly and, most importantly not fully chartered genius within him. He has made 3 known films to date. CLEAN SHAVEN, CLAIRE DOLAN and KEANE.
The first film was released on DVD by Wellspring on January 4, 2000. Wellspring is no longer in business. The second film was released on DVD by New Yorker Films this past February with positive reviews. The third film was released on DVD,by Magnolia Home Entertainment in mid-March and featured an interesting extra. (http://www.mcnblogs.com/reeler/, see May 31)
More Background:
Steven Soderbergh has an unprecedented deal with the Magnolia/Cuban/Wagner/HDNet/2929 Entertainment aparatus that made headlines last April. He is essentially a tenured creator of unmade product, meaning he is guaranteed financing and distribution of six of his own creations. Lodge Kerrigan has no such deal.
The Proposal:
I propose that New Yorker Films/MHE offer Lodge Kerrigan a similar "tenured" position with the company. This would be a guarantee to distribute 6 completed films of his over a similar timeline, in the same manner as the Magnolia /Cuban / Wagner/ HDNet/2929 Entertainment has agreed to do with Mr. Soderberghs films. with one catch. The films will not be in HD, they will be either video or film.
The Action Plan:
The first step is to propose the idea to Mr. Kerrigan.
The second step, if he is in agreement is to have a meeting with the Magnolia/Cuban/Wagner/HDNet/2929 Entertainment collective and let them know our plan and see how they would like to work with us.
The third step is to let the battle of the two geniuses, Mr. Soderbergh and Mr. Kerrigan (ones the father the others the underdog), begin.
The Potential for Financial Success and History:
The Magnolia/Cuban/Wagner/HDNet/2929 Entertainment collectives ability to bring the press flocking does not need to be re-emphasized. If the tale is crafted fashionably, the media hunger would triple (my guess.)
Given Cuban/Wagners hunger for changing all that wastheir rival is quite naturally, New Yorker Films. If the rivalry were publicized- it could mean big bucks and a new face for our company.
The Strategy:
Do the same thing weve always done. Distribute better movies.
