Who Gives Kudos:

September 27, 2006 - Wednesday

Current mood:  hopeful

Hey guys!

Please read the request below - it's from my friend Wendy.  If you can help her out, her page is www.myspace.com/wendyanndutwin.  If you know someone who can help, please send them to her page.

THANKS!  :)

From Wendy:

"Hi everyone-

I am reaching out to all of you on behalf of my Pantene client who received a last minute request from The Elle DeGeneres Show. Ellen is doing her annual Breast Cancer Awareness show which tapes this Thursday, September 28th featuring Sheryl Crow.

Pantene sponsors the Beautiful Lengths campaign which donates real hair from donors that is then made into wigs for cancer survivors. Oscar nominated actress Diane Lane was our spokesperson for the campaign this year, cutting off eight inches of her own hair live on The Today Show earlier this year.

We need a non-celebrity male and/or a child (no need to be related!) who have eight inches of hair they would be willing to cut on Ellen's show this Thursday and have it donated to Pantene's Beautiful Lengths program. We already have a woman for this, so sorry!

If you know of a male or child with long hair that might want to do this, please let me know ASAP!

I have attached more information below. Thank you!!

Do you or someone you know have at least 8 inches of hair ready to donate to Pantene Beautiful Lengths...

…on one of America's hottest daytime talk shows (The Ellen DeGeneres Show!)…

…with a hair makeover from Pantene celebrity stylist Danilo thrown in for good measure???

If so…we need you now! We have an exciting – but time sensitive! -- opportunity for friends and family to donate their hair to Pantene Beautiful Lengths (the first charity of its kind to create real-hair wigs for women suffering from hair loss due to cancer treatment) on the Ellen show this coming Thursday, September 28th .

The show will be taped in Burbank from Noon-4 pm on that date. Ellen's Breast Cancer Awareness show features special guest Sheryl Crow and will open with 4-5 volunteers cutting and donating their hair for our cause.

We are in search of long-haired men and children to appear on the show to have their hair cut live and then have a mini makeover backstage to reveal their new short 'do at the end of the show.

We will of course take care of travel expenses if they are not LA locals. The only requirement is 8 inches of healthy hair that has not been VISIBLY chemically treated (not perms, highlights, etc.).

Many thanks in advance for helping us spread the word!"

Karen

What a good cause! Wish I could help. That would be a lot of fun!

I'm gonna tune in for that one.

EXCELLENT!  YES!  Even if you can't help - make sure people watch Ellen this week!!

ALSO - on the topic of breast cancer - Self Magazine has a wonderful issue out this month (w/ Project Runway's Heidi Klum on the cover).  BUY this issue.  It's so informative about breast cancer.  Share the knowledge with your friends and family.  It's a weird thing to talk about but it touches just about everybody's life.

Dang, wish I knew somebody with long enough hair, but I don't.  And I just got a haircut.  F!  Although it wouldn't have been long enough.

Say, does that Self magazine article mention Inflammatory Breast Cancer?  I just heard about this not too long ago (here's the video on YouTube) and was really surprised.  It's a type of cancer you don't hear a lot about.  You don't feel a lump and it doesn't necessarily show up on a mammogram.  Talk about scary.  Anyway, yeah, it's probably weird for a guy to know about this, but I am married and have had a few female friends/relatives suffer with breast cancer.  So I guess it doesn't hurt to be a little educated, eh?

Hope my post wasn't too much of a downer!

It DOES talk about it.

The articles in Self are very educational and inspire hope. If breast cancer is caught early, the chances of survival are pretty good.  It's all about just getting your check-ups, NO MATTER YOUR AGE, yearly at minimum.

Your post wasn't a downer!  It's just a fact of life.

Crap.  I assumed it was a correct myspace address... but I guess the dummy named it something else.  Either way, he's one of my top myspace friends, so go over there and fire him off a message.

Best,

Adam

I wish they needed a girl! My hair is insanely long right now, and I really want to cut it for a good cause. (That way, hopefully my husband won't freak out too badly if I cut it too short for his taste.)

Where are you located, Jacki?  I might be able to sway them to have another female on since we are having problems finding a child right now.  I will send you an email on myspace so we don't hog Jennifer's blog page with comments back and forth! :-)

It's such a waste that in maybe a week or two I'll be chopping off a good deal of my hair to get my spikey cut back .

Either way I'm a stuck in Scotland gal!  I know plenty of long hair guys, actually - most of my guy friends have longer hair than me - that's just wrong!!

Sorry I couldn't help out but I'm in full support of it.  When my boyfriend, Sean, lost his hair during therapy he had a tough time coping with it.  I know most don't think guys would be affected so bad but he hated it - he refused to allow photos to be taken of him like that and wouldn't ever be seen without a cap or hat.  He was never really vain but he hated how it screamed 'CANCER'.  It must be so much worse for women, though so I'm all for this!  Good luck on finding folk, Wendy!
