OH MY! Our beloved "Project Runway" is going to be jumping over to the Lifetime network. A few thoughts:

1. Is Valerie Bertinelli taking over for Heidi Klum?
2. Will they show promos for "The Burning Bed" during the show?
3. Will Kors beat Nina Garcia up in a bitch fight and then blame it on a pesky doorknob?
4. WTF?! HOW does this show fit this network!? It’s like putting Iron Chef on VH1. Or PGA Golf on the Style Channel. Or basketball on any channel.

Read the article below. Can’t wait for the comments!!

*****UPDATE:  New article with more information!!

"Bravo’s "Project Runway" jumps to Lifetime, NBC sues"

NEW YORK (Reuters) - NBC Universal and its Bravo cable network will lose the popular television reality show "Project Runway" as the show unveiled plans on Monday to jump to rival cable network Lifetime Television.

The show, in which fledgling fashion designers compete for money to launch their own line, has been one of Bravo’s top-rated shows.

NBC Universal filed suit on Monday in New York State Supreme Court against the show’s producer, The Weinstein Co, claiming that the network and Bravo had the right of first refusal for future cycles of the show and any spinoffs.

"Project Runway" will move to Lifetime for its sixth season beginning in November as part of a five-year deal, the network and The Weinstein Co said.

In the lawsuit, NBC claimed it has been negotiating with Weinstein for more than a year to gain exclusive rights to broadcast subsequent cycles of the program, but that Weinstein threatened to take the show to another network unless NBC agreed to acquire a package of unrelated Weinstein films for "many millions of additional dollars."

NBC is seeking a preliminary and permanent injunction to prevent Weinstein from taking the show to another network.

"It is always unfortunate when parties try to win in court what they have lost in the marketplace," David Boies, an attorney for Weinstein said in a statement.

Project Runway just completed its fourth cycle, and NBC said in the suit that it is in production for the fifth season on Bravo.

But NBC said on Monday that it may have to decide whether to continue to air the show.

"NBC Universal regrettably had no alternative but to bring legal action to enforce its rights to this program, including the right to decide whether it is in the best interest of the company to continue to air the show under the proposed financial terms," the company said in a statement.

Heidi Klum, the show’s supermodel host, and Tim Gunn, chief creative officer at Liz Claiborne Inc who mentors the show’s contestants, have also agreed to move to Lifetime, the network said in a statement.

The seven-time Emmy-nominated show premiered on Bravo in 2005 and averaged more than 3.5 million viewers per episode in its most recent season.

NBC is controlled by General Electric Co. France’s Vivendi owns a minority stake.

I know, I know, I'm alone on the basketball. But all I can hear are sneakers squeaking. And what I'd really like to hear is what the coach is saying when he yells. Seriously, mic these guys up!

In order for this show to fit in at Lifetime, a female contestant is going to have be to abused physically by a male contestant or judge throughout the season. Then at the end of the season she will be forced to wrestle away a gun from her season-long harasser, shoot him, and then win the biggest prize of all - finding out who she really is and knowing she has the strength to overcome anything.

It is the weirdest and lamest news ever (although I like your Valerie Bertinelli idea, heh!). How could Bravo give up this show? Isn't it popular like crazy? Well, I'll watch PR wherever it is...I just have to figure out what channel Lifetime is on since I NEVER watch it.

GAHHHHH!! This is wrong for so many reasons. First, Lifetime is crap. The challenges will be all about creating new mom jeans and Tori Spelling and Melissa Gilbert will be celebrity guests. Second, it sounds like this thing will be tied up in court for a while, meaning no new episodes for a long, long time. Third, I have sketchy cable, and I get Bravo but not Lifetime.

If Valerie Bertinelli takes over for Heidi, I think Schneider should replace Kors. I'd love to see him in a tight turtleneck.

'Or basketball on any channel.' Oh come on, basketball is amazing.
Okay, so I read the article & about 3/4 of it went completely over my head (namely all the legal stuff), & all I got out of it was 'Project Runway might move to Lifetime,' which I basically got out of your first sentence, but anyhow..this is ridiculous. I hope Tim Gunn's curled up in fetal position right now, like whenever he even touches a scrap of denim, & feeling tremendous guilt over agreeing to move to Lifetime. =]

Seriously? What is going on with NBC?

First they almost cancel Friday Night Lights AGAIN, only to hand it over to DirecTV (to air the third season exclusively before NBC will air it months later). Then they threaten to cancel Scrubs, and the series appears to be moving to rival ABC. And now this odd fight between corporate siblings.

Jennifer, I smell a letter, and it's in your handwriting. Bring it!

So if Lifetime is taking it and Heidi Klum and Tim Gunn are still going to be on the show...the judges might be different..but - what the hell's the big dif? Sure I love Bravo..but...huh?

Although I agree Tiffany Amber Theissen, Melissa Joan Hart, Candace Cameron, Valerie Bertinelli and no name wannabe soap stars will DEFINITELY have to be bitch slapped, raped and flooded by tears on the show in order to live up to network standards.

The Jazzy Scooter will replace Saturn. Tim Gunn will visit the final contestants on this scooter. It will take him years to get to his destinations. And Bluefly.com will be replaced by Coldwater Creek and Chico's. And Mood Fabric will be replaced by a medical supply store. It's all so fierce.

I can only pray that Top Chef is being sent to Cartoon Network...

Totally off topic, but I find it amusing that I've never heard of "the burning bed" my entire life.. until today, when it's been referenced twice. (Watched a clip for someone's presentation in one of my social work classes). Weird!

I'm watching college basketball right now..

I wasn't so happy about the move to lifetime. I have no specific reason why, I dunno if it will change the show.. but I just don't like lifetime. Do they still show unsolved mysteries? I used to love that show!

I can't wait to see who the new sponsors and advertisers will be. too. Here are my predictions

Hair -------> instead of Tresemme it will be Dove or Garnier Fructis

Make-up ------> Maybelline

Grand Prize for models -----> Photo layout in Ladies Home Journal

Grand Prize for Designers -----> JC Penney Fall Fashion Line or maybe Target

I wonder which of the new RUNWAY contestants will be "15 and pregnant". And does this mean that at least every third episode a former 90210 or MELROSE PLACE cast member must make an appearance? Actually that would be awesome!

I would like to run outside shouting to the heavens to keep Project Runway where it belongs. Unfortunately I am locked inside my house right now. The internet keeps telling me to remove the lock, but I think it is a cruel joke as they must know it is impossible. Please blog some more, perhaps some letters, to keep my mind off my entrapment. There is one positive...I couldn't go to work today!

Oh dear, dear, dear, dear, dear. You have put Food Lady in such a tizzy. She had already set the DVR to record "The Memory Keeper's Daughter" on Lifetime this Saturday (we will be watching a hockey game). She really liked the book and wanted to see the movie, but now that you are all making mincemeat of Lifetime, which she has never watched before (honest), she is worried that she is doing something wrong by wanting to see this movie. Please send advice soon as I can't stand her hand wringing. Oh, and we do not watch basketball, ever. We'd rather watch grass grow. I do that a lot in the summer...just lay down on the porch and watch the grass. I have yet to see any movement, but then I usually fall asleep after 3 minutes.
