AFC Divisional Winners

AFC West: San Diego Chargers

The Chargers have best Defense, RB and TE in the division this alone should give them the edge in the division. If Shawn Merriman doesn't play well or doesn't get through the season, the door then opens a little for the Broncos.

AFC East: New England Patriots

The Pats win this one going away. They won't be as good as last season on both sides of the ball. I believe it's very possible they don't get out of the first round of the playoffs. Tom Brady and Randy Moss don't come close to equaling the stats of a year ago.

AFC North: Cleveland Browns

If the Browns Defense improves they could easily be one the top team going into the playoffs. They have an explosive O with Derek Anderson, Jamal Lewis and Braylon Edwards. Barring any serious injury to their stars on O I don't see the other teams in the division keeping up with their track meet.

AFC South: Indianapolis Colts

I think Peyton Manning has really been underestimated and undervalued in all the talk so far in the preseason even with the ailing knee.  He may not lead the league in QB stats or even match the Pats in wins this season but I see Manning having a big year.

AFC Wildcards: Jacksonville Jaguars, Denver Broncos

AFC Champion: Indianapolis Colts

NFC Divisional Winners

NFC West: Arizona Cardinals

If the Cardinals get good starts out of both Kurt Warner and Matt Leinhart the Cardinals should have best O in the division. Their weakness is on D but with improvement I think they can win it since it's such a weak division.

NFC East: NY Giants

I think with the confidence of a well earned Super Bowl win behind him Eli Manning plays even to higher level than last year and pull's the Giants through this tough division. The shock in the division will be the complete collapse of the Cowboys who won't even earn a playoff spot.

NFC North: Detroit Lions

The Lions must improve and D if they do I see them finally making the playoffs. This is the toughest division in either conference to choose a winner, any team could take it. I based my choice solely on their ability to score on O and they should be better than any other team in the division at it.

NFC South: New Orleans Saints

I picked them last year to win the NFC and they ended up melting down early in the season on D.  That and season ending injury to Deuce McAllister and often injured Marques Colston in combination with the underachievement of Reggie Bush and Drew Brees early killed them. I don't see that happening this season; they play in a weak division and should win the division then shock the football world by beating the Giants in the NFC Championship Game.

NFC Wildcards: Philadelphia Eagles, St. Louis Rams

NFC Champion: New Orleans Saints

Super Bowl Champion: Indianapolis Colts

Do you agree? I look forward to you comments.

My prediction for the Raiders Game is:

Broncos 27

Raiders 24

Notes:

Good news that Brandon Marshall's suspension was reduced to 1 game.

Brandis Bennett

I agree on the NFC CHAMP. But its the Broncos all the way to the superbowl this year!!!!!! They have a better offense and a little better D on paper than Indianapolis Colts. Also my prediction for the Raiders game is :

Broncos 31
Raiders 17

Can't say as I could agree on the statement that the Broncos have a better O or D than the Colts not by a long shot but I do like you score prediction.

I am a Drew Brees fan so was glad to see your pick of the Saints. I think they have what it takes to make some noise this year. As for the Colts...that's a tough call. I'm looking at the Steelers to be pretty tough, mainly because of their defense (keep an eye on 99, he's a Wyoming boy!).

Looking forward to another great football season! Go Pokes! Go Chargers! and Go anyone playing BYU!

His family's from Greybull. They moved back when he was in 4th grade. He graduated from GHS and unfortunately did play for BYU.

Damn, I wish he hadn't play at BYU, that nearly qualifies him as a traitor. It's cool that he played in Greybull though.

you know what i dont care if we go 2-14 as long as we beat the chargers twice. after what rivers taunting cutler, that tickd me off. if cutler had LT and gates and that defense, he woulda be even better. i just want to kill the chargers and i want champ or cutler to do a lil trash talk back.

Yo Mojo, wasabe my fellow Broncomaniac. Well bud , I like some of your picks, some I dont. I'll give you my break down on it.

AFC West: Chargers, even if Merriman doesnt last the whole season,it shouldnt matter as long as L.T is healthy. That defense is stout with or with out Merriman, and Rivers knows his role within the offense quite well.

AFC East: New England, even if Bradys foot does hamper him through out the season, that division doesnt have a strong enough team to de-throan them. Also, for you fantasy guys, look for Maroney to have an improved year.

AFC North: Pittsburgh, Big Ben has a new spread offense to play with and some good recievers. Even if fast Willie wears down, theyre deep enough at RB that that shouldnt be a problem. They have a solid LB corp with Farrior, Woodley and Foote, solid CB's in Taylor and Townsend with Palomalu anchoring the defensive backfield, that defense will be tough.

AFC South: Indy of course, with Manning at the helm that offense will be a machine.

AFC Wild cards: Jacksonvile, Denver

AFC Champions: San Diego (damnit I hate them)

NFC West: Seattle, I just dont see Arizona coming together enough to give the Seachickens much of a fight for the division. Its a weak division and Seattle could win it with a 9-7 record.

NFC East: Dallas, too many weapons in big-D for even the superbowl champs to stop.

NFC North: Minnesota, with AP and that defense, all they need is a qb not to lose the game for them. Remember Trent Dilfer in Baltimore guys, that will be Jacksons role in Minnesota.

NFC South: New Orleans, look for Brees and company to put up big points this year.

NFC Wild Cards: New York Giants, Carolina

NFC Champions: Dallas

Superbowl Champs: Dallas over San Diego (damn I hate the Chargers!)

I still say the Cowboys fall on their asses this year. Them winning the NFC just seems like a big pipe dream to me. I'm not sure San Diego can win the whole thing or not, last year I picked them to win the whole thing and they came up short. I think the Colts and Manning will do it the hard way but find a way to take it all the way.

Right now the Steelers are the other overrated team going into the start of the 2008 season, I'm not cosigning that BS, I think they may not even get a Wildcard berth, they're in a very tough division and the Browns and Bengals will give them a go.

Nice explanations on the picks. If the broncos can stay healthy on the line, we'll win 10 maybe 11 games. As long as we beat the Chargers I'll be happy.

I like your AFC picks except for the Browns. I think last season was a fluke. I see the Steelers winning the North. Gotta watch out for the Texans to make a run as well.

Your NFC picks are a little wacky. I'm interested why you don't have Dallas even making the playoffs. Too much talent on that team to miss the playoffs even with Mr. Excitement at the helm. Green Bay will make a run too even without 4. I've been waiting too long for the Cardinals to finally give the Seahawks a run for the West. I hope they do it but I'm skeptical. If the Rams win 3 games, I'll be shocked.

I have to admit maybe I'm a little biased when it comes to the Cowboys. they probably do make the playoffs but my gut feeling is they're phonies and so far Romo has done nothing to prove otherwise. 2 straight years his game in the playoffs have stunk, if they do make again this season I see the same thing. I think the guy is an overrated pretty boy. I don't see him ever getting to the big show and while the Cowboys O played well in spurts last year I just don't see them playing well against better teams this year. Their D is only average and overrated as well. I'm hater of the Cowboys, only the Raiders are ahead of them on the list.

My other NFC picks are a little wacky. Many have picked Seattle and Green Bay as divisional winners I'm not so sure.

This may be the year the Hawks hit skid row. I've never like Hasselbeck as a big game QB, he's choked in almost every big game of his career. Yea, the Seahawks have made the playoffs for a number of years only because of the shitty divsion they play in and thanks to a once great run blocking OL and Alexander. He's a goner now who do they have on O who can make big plays? Zippo! The Rams got Jackie Slater back and their OL is in good shape so if they can keep Bulger off the rug they could be a team that wins a lot of games this year. I feel the same about the Cards.

The Packers season last year was nothing but dumb luck, they won't repeat it this year. They play in a divsion that may be as equal in talent as any in the NFL. Any one of the teams in the division could win it. The Packers D if it plays as well as last year maybe has a shot but on O I see them getting shut down by the Bears and the Vikes, the Lions may just outscored them. I don't bet on NFL games but if I did I'd bet a large wad the Packers don't win their division this year.

As for the Browns, it's a hope pick maybe an impossible one to some but I'd say the Steelers are not as good as everyone has made them out to be in the 2008 preseason. Their D may carry them. Big Ben has impressed maybe they will win the division but I'm not sold on the Steelers yet.

I think I agree with most of these picks - I love the way you break everything down but I have to sentimental in the West and pick the Broncos! :D Although if I can't see Denver in the Super Bowl, the Colts would be my pick!!

I think the Cowboys (even though I cant stand them) will at win there division or at the very least will be a NFC wildcard. I like the Saints pick. I dont think the colts will win the whole thing. For some reason, I am seeing a lackluster year for them.

My Broncos vs Faiders game prediction:

Broncos - 27
Raiders - 13

I saw how pathetic the raiders were against the Cardinals, so 13 may be a little generous. I predict a touchdown by Darrell Jackson in this game, and look for him to bring back the "mile high salute" this year... I am excited about Prater booming the kicks out of the endzone and out opponents starting on the 20 every drive this year...That will be nice.

Great blog I agree with you on the AFC East The Pats will win it no dout.
As for the South I agree that Indy gets it but this may be the last time Peyton isnt getting any younger and they have had more and more injuries I see them eventually passing the torche to the Jags who will be a wildcard team.

The Browns out of the south yes its all about there D and Derick Anderson playing well again they have some weponds at WR so they could come out on top don't count out Pitsburg if they are at full strength they could win it too. The Bengals are a mess and Baltimore has QB issues with not much help on that side of the ball.

I agree that SD will come out on top but like you said if Merriaman gose down and if Rivers and LT or Gates gets hurt as well that could very well indeed open the door for us. Based on what I've seen out of us in the preseason and with Marshalls suspenstion being reduced I see us contending for a wildcard spot this year beyond that who knows what will happen.

I agree that New Orleans can not possibly play like they did last year and will win the NFC South the only other team is the Panthers but the way Jake Delome plays and his durrability issues that won't happen. The Lions winning the North would be a huge surprise if their D improves and Kitna can manage the Offense than they could indeed win it. The Giants have the confidence in Eli and despite some of the injuries up front they still have a solid D Even if the Cowboys win it Romo has yet to prove that he can win a playoff game.
Seattle has had a hold on the West and I don't see them giving it up The Cardinals might snag it away if their D improves and if Warner put up like he did last year.

I can't wait for Monday Night I think its gonna be a great game I agree that even without Marshall we will still put up points and move the ball our Run D has improved so I don't see McFadden going off on us but our pass rush needs some work so I see Oakland putting up some points against us I say 28-21 Broncos on top.

We seem to be much in line. I just don't see the Seahawks as a good team. Maybe the Cards can't make it happen but I'd sure like to see it. Hasselbeck is like Romo, a choke artist in the big games. I feel sorry for the Hawks Fans they've just lacked a big game QB and with one they may have won a Super Bowl.

I just hope for the Broncos sake that the scheme is sinking in on D and that their play will improve on the pass rushing end. I think we may be able to stop the run on the Raiders and there OL is still a questionable pass blocking unit so we should be able to pressure Russell, so we'll see.

Thanks Anthony.

I don't get all the hype about the Steelers maybe I'm wrong about them, I just think on O they don't have talented enough WR's to win games. The aging Ward and the smurf Holmes are just not enough. Parker seems to run well between the 20's and to the outside but can't overpower any one inside the 5. Yea they have a decent so so D but you add up the skilled players on O and I see them on the outside looking in this year.

I like the courage of the Houston pick, I guess it's in line with my Cards pick but I just can't imagine the Texans making the playoffs as a division winner maybe a long shot as wild card but not a division winner.

GO CARDINALS!!!

I think the chargers are not going to survive their injuries, and will lose the division by a game. Denver wins with a 10-6 record. I think the pats win their division but the jets are right on there butt and are a wildcard team. the south is a toss up between the jags and the colts. it all depends on how the jags handle the first couple of weeks with the player that was shot. the north will be won by the browns, unless the steelers can survive there really hard schedule. and eek out a 10-6 record.
The nfc east will be the giants or eagles. the south will be the saints, they are just to good not to win the division. the north will be won by the lions, and the west will be the cardinals for the taking.
The wild cards are afc jets and steelers, nfc giants and panthers
the division winners will be the colts and the saints, and the saints win the super bowl

the monday night game is denver 24 raiders 6

just my thoughts good post

---------------------AFC PREDICITONS---------------
afc west winners Denver Broncos 11-5
chargers are the most overrated team in the history of the nfl at least for 2008! lol they no longer have michael turner, gates has a new toe, LT cries to much. they have a horrible secondary which looks good on paper when you can put pressure on the qb like they could last year. delhomme just shredded them in week one.
afc south Indy 11-5
a slow start with week one loss. losing dallas clark is big for them and there defens still has a ton of work to be done a rookie ran all over them last week. saturday returns to solidify there offensive line problems the weak defense will bit them agains
afc north Pittsburgh 13-3
big ben and a weak division should propell pitt to home field through out afc playoffs, the return of a solid defense which they lacked last year should help.
afc north Patriots 11-5
losing brady will get them an early exit in the playoffs but this team still has what it take to make a significant push. to many veterans and experianced players on this team
afc wild card N.Y. Jets 10-6
brett favre has weapons to throw to in coles and cotchery, and solid freeagent pick ups in the offseason helped boost there defense. this team might surprise there playoff opponent(s)
afc wild cardII chargers 10-6
losing to the jets they will take the 6th seed this team will see an early exit in the playoffs not getting any one from the draft or free agency this year will hurt. this might just be there last chance to be a legit contender for a few years.

BRONCOS TAKE THE WEST
cutlers rocket arm is back for the whole season, eddie royal will become rookie of the year at the rate hes going heck this guy shredded dallas 1st team defense for 80 yards in the preseason not to mention schoolin deagnelo hall for 146 yards in week one this guy is legit.
brandon marshall baby TO without the attitude he will put up some monster numbers again.
brandon stokley will take a load off cutler if under pressure at the slot. he will provide great underneath openings to let cutler get rid of the ball quicker.
runningback by committee denvers the best at this but we will see significant improvement this year in situational running (3rd and short, goal line opportunities) with michael pittman and selvin young.
defense looks better now healthy, boss bailey adds strength to the outside of our front 7 marlon mcree and marquand manuel provide youth and skill at the safety spot. still got the best corner tandum in the league in champ and dre wish we didnt lose foxworth but you cant keep them all.
our punter and kicker are freakin awesome too.
im still missing out on a lot too! go broncos!!!
