Current mood:  awake
Man...

I'm sitting here at home watching Sicko by Michael Moore and and its actually making me a little sick. These stories are so sad.

Can you believe that 1 month before I had my "Brain Pain" I had just reinstated my health insurance?

I go through a company called Tonik.com and I missed a few bills... My friend Mike 4100 was like "duuuude- don't let this slide- because when you do- thats when you're gonna need it!"

Sooooo- I handled it, almost a month later is when I had to go to the hospital for a dilated ventricle in my brain. Woah.

So yesterday- I got the bill for it saying the total cost was $100,000.00, But insurance had covered the full amount...

I just felt like I needed to tell you this, thats all. I feel very lucky to have health insurance and damn if I ever miss a bill again! HAHA!

When I 1st moved to LA with my sister, we got into a fist fight (georgia style)... And she punched me in the nose. I went to the emergency room and they took x-rays and told me I had a little crack in it that they couldn't do anything about.

I got the bill and it was around $3,000.00.... I was working as a protein shake maker at Gold's Gym. It took me 3 years to finally pay that off and it screwed up my credit.

I made it a point to get health insurance after that cause I didn't wanna be errrrr caught with my pants down again.

Yay for that.

Thank you Mike 4100 for putting fire under my ass to take care of my lapsed health insurance bills.

and Thanks Kelly for breaking my nose.... I learned a few lessons from that.

I'm pretty sure I'm cursed to be a klutz forever. To the point of my doctor recognizing his next patient, me, just by looking at my x-rays. My family found it more humorous than I did. I was more focused on the fact that his name was Dr. Holiday. Get it? Doc Holiday ...Wyatt Earp?

..Hi Meiko,........We are lucky as we have the NHS here in the UK,it's not great but they cure you. Of course,we have to pay for it through our taxes but we have to pay extra health insurance unless you what to be treated privately. At least we are both healthy now. ..

Take care

The insurance company and the majority of so called health care is a business. I mean it is a profit association, sad but true. What ever happened to doing good and helping just for the goodness of one's heart? The other day I heard a parent yelling I am not sending my child to school to listen to a black man; what a country we live in?

I can barely watch Sicko because I get so fucking angry at our leadership in this country. I truly believe that we have the potential to be the greatest nation on earth, but we have fallen way short. But you get the government that you ask for; whether you ask for it by being involved or if you ask for it by sitting on your ass and playing Halo. Let your congressmen know that you want everyone to have their healthcare covered and to not have to file bankruptcy because they got sick.

Watch it tho. Some doctors not covered under your health care plan will try to see you while your in an unhealthy condition. For me, depression. While under meds for a suicide attempt a doctor visited me and asked me a few questions..20 mins top...weeks later I get stuck w a $800 bill from him that my health insurance refused to cover cuz he's not on the approved doctors list. Insurance is good, insurance companies can be evil tho

how does one get a dilated ventricle in the brain? Also, Tonik seems like a good program. I switched jobs a few weeks back for better $$ and they do not have benefits, much to my amazement. Anyway, long story short, I am searching for coverage, and no one wants to write me b/c of my GERT issue (look it up) GRRRR.. we s hall see.. You need to come back and visit GA!

A excellent story. Hard for those making $10.00 or less to pay for health insurance. I make $15.00 a hour. I pay $240.00 every two weeks for health insurance. A good percentage of my check.

I broke my ankle this June and had to get surgery (i actually went to your LA show on crutches lol). One doc was charging me 15-20$k (i don't have insurance). So i went to a doc my sister used to work for, and he only charged me $5k, what a bargain! This included 2 surgeries, 4 follow ups w/ xrays.  That's why i say, in this life it's good to know three type of people:..
....1. a Doctor....2. an Attorney ....3. and a Mechanic to fix your car and not rip you off. ..

I hear ya!!! I got sick this past summer and I have no insurance at all. Now I've been getting the bills (hospital, lab, ambulance, etc)....I dunno how long its going to take for me to pay them...and yes, the credit card is suffering from it too...its crazy!!! Also, I didn't qualify for Medi-Cal because I'm single, I  don't have a family and I'm not pregnant. Ugh!! Hopefully Obama passes a health bill that benefits everyone!!!

As a soldier i can tell you that the government is made by society. The way society acts determines how the government will act. So if society changes for the better then the government will change. All the chaos must end in order for things to just be right and not disappoint everyone. Duh.

I know what you mean about injuring yourself when you don't have insurance. During the period between when my parents' insurance no longer covered me since I wasn't a student and when my probation period was over at work I kept injuring myself in little ways that escalated to the point I almost fell down a flight of stairs in a Pasadena parking structure (sober). So yay health insurance!
And to the chick from Canada who said health insurance is free there, well it's not. You are paying for it in higher taxes but I do understand the benefits of paying a little extra over time that receiving a bill for one huge sum.

and... who is going to pay for everyone to have a 100,000 scan???  and $3Million cancer treatments??  It won't happen for many people.  Have you visited the DMV lately?   Do you want your health care run like that?  Have you asked your doctor how Medicare pays them?  The FDA will decide what needs to be done with your body?  No thanks.

Yeah, that movie is a great wake-up call. You hear all of these insurance lobbyists on television saying that universal health care is "socialism." I studied in England for a summer once and slammed four of my fingers in a heavy wooden door that separated the skin on each finger about an inch wide. (yummy) I went straight to the hospital and was seen immediately to have stitches done and it didn't cost me a single penny. If "socialism" mean I pay more in taxes, but I don't ever have to worry about going bankrupt from medical bills or be denied for a "pre-existing condition"....then, uh, why is this a bad thing????  Sorry to ramble on on your blog. You just inspired me to share a story. :)
