THE LEMONHEADS PLAY "RAY" AT SXSW

Band Will Play It's A Shame About Ray Album In It's Entirety To Commemorate

Collector's Edition CD/DVD Version Set For Release March 25 From Rhino

For the first time in their career, The Lemonheads will be playing the SXSW Music Conference in Austin, Texas. Their official showcase will take place at Emo's Annex on Wednesday, March 12. The band, fronted by Evan Dando along with Vess Ruhtenburg (bass) and Devon Ashley (drums), will be performing their seminal album It's A Shame About Ray in its entirety to commemorate the upcoming Collector's Edition CD/DVD release of the set.

This deluxe package features a remastered version of the complete album with previously unreleased demos along with the DVD debut of the 1993 video Two Weeks In Australia. The Collector's Edition of It's A Shame About Ray will be available March 25 at all physical retail outlets and www.rhino.com for a suggested list price $24.98. A digital version that includes all the CD content will also be available the same day for $10.99 from all digital retailers.

I can't wait!! I have Two Weeks in Australia on VHS, but my VCR is dying a slow, painful death so this is excellent timing. Guess I'll be in Texas in March...

That's awesome. I will have to get that DVD. I had Two Weeks in Australia on VHS, then I converted it to DVD. Of course, that copy isn't so great. Thanks for posting this! Lovey. xo ;-)

Cristy ... Crissy ... Criss ... Whatever ...

I loved Ray, it is one of the best albums EVER. I know every word to every song!! My mom used to ask me to perform it for her and her friends. I would stand in the living room lip syncing and air guitaring EVERY song from start to finish. She found it very evtertaining!!! I also was about 14 when Ray came out, I love rockin' stroll so much. I am a mommie now, and every time I would take my kids for a walk in there stroller that song would get stuck in my head... " People knees and trunks of trees smile at me "

Now, I have got to go listen to it! : )

That album is the main reason why I play guitar.

I saw this line-up on the tour supporting the most recent record, and they sound great together. Vess does an excellent job with Juliana's vocal parts, all things considered.

I sincerely hope the Texas show is a good deal better than the rubbish dished out at Bogart's in Cincinnati some weeks back. Having traveled a good two hours to see the gig, Dando and his gang proceeded to treat the 100+ audience to around 45 minutes before rushing off stage without an encore. Always remember: If you're ticked off with a poor turnout, don't take it out on those who made the effort.

Electric Pinecone

One of my favorite records of all time! Evokes vivid memories of both my New Hampshire high school and Boston University, plus all kinds of driving around, and all of the years ever since. I can't begin to count how many times I've wandered around an empty house singing "Frank Mills" as loud as I can to myself.

Does anyone know whether or not you can get into the show without buying the whole SXSW bullshit?

Will be looking forward to 3/25 then! Awesome news... love "Ray", (and love covering the song too... hoping the Squealing Fans Lemonheads tribute comes out soon too since our version of Ray is on there.) Anyway, it's a great album and worth commemorating... & brings back really nice memories too. Will definitely be picking up a copy. =)

'Ray' in its entirety? I'm FURIOUS. Mark my words, as time goes on (and of course you know this) IASAR with go one to become THEEE watermark sound of the early-mid nine-dees...copied by umteeen bands (including my own at times). Deceptively understated at the time, it sounds perfectly produced NOW. Thanks Rob Bros.... So I'm furious I missed it LIVE for the 1st time at SXSW and that I wasn't SINGING harmony on stage : ) Rudderless indeed. E
