Being upside-down can make all the blood rush to your head in an unpleasant way so I'll keep this quite short: we are playing in North America soon & need support bands for New York (2 shows), San Francisco, Seattle & Vancouver - do you think you could help? Same idea as the Europe shows - you recommend LOCAL bands that would be good for the job (preferably with a link to somewhere I can hear their music) & I'll do the rest. It worked a treat before - let's unleash the magic again!

G'day xx Jarvis

It is probably not feasible, but we would LOVE to have you in Nashville, Tennessee. My friends and I are huge fans!

Cool!  There's a NY based band called Savoy who are fantastic.  They include Paul Waaktaar who's in a-ha and is their main songwriter.  Their music is beautiful and their lyrics are intelligent.  See their MySpace http://www.myspace.com/bandsavoy .

And the lead singer is a rocket-scientist. No kidding.

I'm going to second Erin's Great Northern - a swell pop combo, if ever there was one (& remember, local in American terms means 'w/in 8 hours drive', as opposed to local in the UK, which means they're playing down 't Local...)

NYC
The World Without Magic are nice, they sort of swing between high-energy, poppy songs to pretty shoegazer-y things.
Takka Takka is like a New York spin on the Silver Jews.
Dirty on Purpose are loud and fun as hell! They are opening up for Calla in a couple of weeks, too.
(Those first two bands are still unsigned, if that makes a difference one way or the other.)

Seattle
Ghost Stories are fairly new as a band, but they are so awkward and charming onstage that really, the crowd will not be able to help but love them.
Boat are awesome! They write songs like Lou Barlow, but sing like... I dunno, the dude fromWolf Parade? Their latest album came in at the top of lots of local year-end lists.
Partman Parthorse is really the band's name. Yup! Their lead singer is all over the crowd during their live shows, giving high-fives and singing in people's faces. It's great!

Even though I cannot attend any of these shows either since I live in Cleveland (I was going to go to the NYC but since its on a Monday, I can't because I have a job I'd like to keep) ...

Anyhow... some bands in NYC you may want to consider:

Golem (high energy Klezmer www.golemrocks.com)
Manorexia (JG Thirlwell's instrumental project... but he's probably in Europe while your in NYC www.foetus.org)
Les Sans Culottes (Francophiles) they're probably a friend of yours on here already
JUF (Jewish Ukranian Freundshaft = Gogol Bordello vs. Tamir Muskat ... Eastern Euro Dance), http://www.myspace.com/jewishukrainianfreundschaft
Balkan Beat Box (www.balkanbeatbox.com)
Woman (Swamprock) http://www.myspace.com/womannyc
Services (hard to explain what they sound like, just listen) http://www.myspace.com/services
Sour Jazz (Nick Cave-influenced) http://www.myspace.com/sourjazz
Luminescent Orchestrii (Gypsy Tango Klezmer Punk) http://www.myspace.com/luminescentorchestrii
Peelander-Z (Japanese Comic Book Punk) http://www.myspace.com/peelanderz
Nous Non Plus (more Francophiles) http://www.myspace.com/nousnonplus

thats enough for now... I don't want to give too many impossible suggestions as well as the fact it would only hurt even worse if I didn't get to attend!

Jarvis
So I hear your looking for local support for your upcoming shows in New York soon, as it has been relayed to me from the 1 band that is on my label. To date, outside of putting 1 ep out I have been lax in doing anything else for them and they have promised me that they will absolve me of any other duties til the fall if i get them the support slot in New York. Grant it, I do have an independent record store to run upstate which takes up most of my time and really I spend most of that time across the street at the taco place, but dont tell them that. Anyway the band Class which you can hear at myspace.com/classnyc are a live experience to be hold, fevered to say the least and will give you a run for your money, no offense. I figure if they get the chance to open up for you they may sell a few cd's which would make my sister-in-law happy since i got my brother to pay for it all. And while I have your attention, if you are upstate and your looking for a good time and you wanted to do an in-store, let me know. What can i say, I belive in them enough to say they would be great or at least rise to the occasion. I was one of those typical New Yorkers who goes to shows and says entertain me, and they did that and they get you to cut loose.
PS Please let me know if Scott can use the baby oil, because places like the Annex complained about it being all slippy afterwards. But can i say with the glitter its a show.
Anyway I hope all is well and the tour is a success
peace means see you later

I totally agree, Scissors For Lefty are the type of band you see as a support by chance and then make sure you catch them every time they visit.

And play Boston!

<3 Scissors for lefty <3 For your San fran show, they are better than sliced bread..infact....people should changed the phrase from "best thing since sliced bread" to "best thing since Scissors for lefty." they are that fantastic. i think it might make a smooth transition....cuz scissors and slicing are sorta similar.

Gawd, I wish someone would sign us up for a night, or even a spot at a festival. Those "I'm sorry our line up is full" emails keep coming. Oh look there's another... "Clunk" (Sound of head hitting keyboard in despair).

How do you get on a festival line up?

Time for a bourbon biscuit and a coffee...
