Who Gives Kudos:

Tuesday, September 30, 2008
Remember when I said I was going to start releasing tracks to iTunes as soon as I finished recording them? Well, I'm in the studio this very moment – and the first track released from my next album will be available on iTunes a week from today (October 7)!

This is extremely exciting for me. One of the hardest things I've had to deal with in my career is keeping my material topical even though I only release albums every 3 or 4 years. Now, with the advent and popularity of digital distribution, I don't have to wait around while my songs get old and dated – I can get them out on the Internet almost immediately. It kind of boggles my mind – I thought of the idea for this new song a week ago, and next week it's getting released!

I'm only supposed to "tease" this release right now – I'll post more info about it in a couple days. But I will say that it's a parody of a song that very recently was (or perhaps still is) the number one song in the country. That would be another first for me – I don't think I've ever released a parody of a song while the original song was still number one!

iTunes will have an exclusive on this song for two weeks, after which I guess it will be available wherever else digital downloads are sold. But I'm really kind of hoping this sucker will chart, so if you can, please buy it the first week it's out!

If this release goes well, there will be more to come. Thanks in advance for your support!

Al

You would figure. And anyway, had that comment not been a joke I think you'd have qualified as a n00b, which is distinctly different from a NOOB.

Just putting that out there :P

You all stink, the phrase originates from unqualified Submariner, aka, you're all a bunch of NUBS's!

the phrase is actually derived from the term newbie. spelled phonetically it is nooby and then shortened to noob

while we're all waiting - you should search on youtube for "I Kissed a girl (off of craigslist)" - clearly not as good as Al - but damn, damn close!! its a hilarious spoof of Katy Perry....

That is the greatest news I've heard since...White and Nerdy went 1 on Vh1. Al...of COURSE I'm going to buy it as soon as it comes out, the first day even, I can't wait any longer than that! It's great that it will be available on iTunes like that, very convenient.

Give Bela a hug for me!

My mom and I were thinking he's either going to do Katy Perry or Rhianna.

Which, ew, for the both of them, but they'd be awesome parodies.

The other day my daughter heard a little boy singing, "I kissed a squirrel and I liked it" and I thought that would make a good song for Al!

Weird Al finally on the cutting edge of parody! I'm glad you didn't have that year long window and now you can parody songs that are still on the Top 100/40/20 etc.
