It’s not even April, and already 2008 has been a huge year for MySpace Comic Books!
Before the champagne from New Years was flat, MCB was already making history with
simultaneous digital distribution of BOOM! Studios’ NORTH WIND on the day the book came out – giving it away for free on the same day it hit the stores!
That same week, amid a storm of controversy, we were the first to bring you
the highly anticipated pages first of SPIDER-MAN: BRAND NEW DAY! As January drew to a close, we highlighted Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillip’s searing (and stellar) crime drama with
CRIMINAL WEEK.
Then on February 8th we were proud to team up with
Meltdown Comics to celebrate the end of Y: THE LAST MAN with a comic book gathering for the books:
Y: THE LAST PARTY! Not only did a who’s who of comics arrive to salute our Guests of Honor Brian K. Vauguan and Pia Guerra, but we raised thousands of dollars for the
Comic Book Legal Defense Fund.
CRIMINAL WEEK was so much fun we did it again for
STEPHEN KING’S DARK TOWER. And then just last week, we were proud to become the new home of Joe Quesada,
Marvel Comics Editor-in-Chief!
MyCup o’ Joe is a new weekly feature on MySpace Comic Books where Joe answers
YOUR questions. We are pleased to have Joe choose to be a part of our humble little community. Welcome, Joe!
Phew. That was a lot. Hang on, we need a refill on tea.

What? Alan Moore drinks tea! (Probably.)

OK, we’re back. With everything going on, we let our birthday slip by with hardly a mention. That’s right: MySpace Comic Books turned one year old this month. We didn’t make a big deal about it because we knew that today, this very day, was right around the corner:
THE DEBUT OF THE ALL-NEW MYSPACE COMIC BOOKS!
is out!
is in! If you’re reading this, you probably know it already because you saw it with your own eyes: we’ve relaunched MySpace Comic Books with a brand new look and layout! (If you don’t know what we’re talking about,
click here and feast your greedy eyes.) It’s been a year with the old design and it was time for a new style, you feel us?
Even better, MySpace Comic Books will now be updated every weekday, instead of every week! That’s right, you can come back every day to get your comic book fix right here on MySpace.
We think the new design looks pretty awesome – and it’s going to let us do more of all the features we love, not to mention a couple new ones we’ve got planned. Let us know what YOU think!
But don’t worry, not everything is changing. We’re still going to be connecting you with the best comics, creators, and events in the industry. For example,
today’s preview of Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 8, issue 16: an EXCLUSIVE look at the historic first meeting between Buffy and her future counterpart, Fray! Relaunching MCB with this preview is a special moment for us, and not just because it’s a cool preview of a fantastic book. When MCB launched, our very first spotlight was a contest to win a role in the new Buffy series. Our first milestone was with Buffy, Joss, and our friends at
Dark Horse, and we’re honored to kick off this milestone with them as well.
Over one year later, Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 8 is a blockbuster, and MySpace Comic Books is over 190,000 dedicated comic book fans strong. It’s been an incredible year, and we want to thank everyone in the comic book industry who have been generous with their time, their support, and their wicked awesome comic books.
But most of all, we want to thank YOU! Without your comments, your forum posts, your kudos, your messages, your passion, enthusiasm, and undeniable love for comic books – this community would not be here. We love comics, and we’ve been able to do so many cool things for comics (we just listed a handful from 2008 alone) and it’s all thanks to
YOU.
Anyone who says comic books are not cool, vital, and popular forms of entertainment today only has to type
myspace.com/comicbooks into their browser to see that it simply isn’t true.
Whether you love comics, manga, graphic novels, or all of the above: YOU prove the haters and the doubters wrong, every day, just by being who you are. So we’re going to continue doing everything we can to bring you the best in comic books, and now we’re going to do it every day. We’ve got more tricks up our sleeve -- more features, more spotlights, more programs, more COMICS – more great stuff as we near our next milestone: 200,000 friends. If you liked year one, year two is going to knock your socks off. Don’t forget to let us know what you think!
We’ve said it before, and we’ll say it again:
MYSPACE COMIC BOOKS LOVES YOU! Here’s to another year!
Love,
MySpace Comic Books
