Happy new year to all! 2008 is gone but MySpace Comic Books keeps going on strong. And we have no one to thank for that but YOU – all of you! Without all of you passionate, dedicated, and amazing fans coming back every day to check out new books, chat it up the latest news, and otherwise bond over the glory of comic books, we wouldn't be nuthin'! So THANK YOU for keeping this humble site going to see another year.

To celebrate, in partnership with our friends at IMAGE COMICS, MySpace Comic Books is pleased to announce THE SAVAGE DRAGON MONTH! Every Thursday in January, right here on MySpace Comic Books, Image Comics co-founder and dragon-wrangler ERIK LARSEN will select one of his favorite issues from the long and celebrated run of THE SAVAGE DRAGON – focusing on the Dragon's most memorable moments from his career as a police officer in Chicago! Then we'll present the entire issue online, complete with Larsen's thoughts and comments, for you to enjoy for FREE! That's right, MORE FREE COMICS! Why? Because we love you for being you.

If you've read THE SAVAGE DRAGON before, then you already know that one of the books that kicked off the Image Revolution back in the day is STILL one of the most consistently awesome super hero books today! Crazy adventure, over the top action, and more costumed freaks than you can shake a stick at.

Should you have a craving for more dragon, don't worry. Not only will we have another FREE issue every Thursday this month, but the upcoming issue of THE SAVAGE DRAGON is a perfect jumping on point for fans both new and lapsed! The Dragon returns to the ranks of Chicago PD and a new era dawns for the green titan of the windy city. Don't miss out!

Many thanks to our buddies at IMAGE COMICS, and ERIK LARSEN himself for helping us kick off the new year in style here at MySpace Comic Books. Don't forget to come back every Thursday for another completely bone chilling issue. First up on Erik's list: THE SAVAGE DRAGON issue 8! Take it away, Erik…

I was asked to select my four favorite Dragon-as-a-cop stories and here's what I settled on. It's tough to pick just four because the early issues of Savage Dragon were very inter-connected. One story fed into the next and while a payoff issue might be exciting, it loses something without the set up issues which preceded it. I finally settled on 1, which set the stage, 7, Dragon's first battle with OverLord, 8, which was the follow up to that, and an especially cool issue, and 21, which was the final battle between Dragon and OverLord. There were others which I'd considered--Dragon's talk with God, Dragon's team up with Hellboy and so many others. But hey--I had to limit it to four and these, I thought, best represented Dragon as a police officer.

SAVAGE DRAGON 145

"BACK IN BLUE"

Savage Dragon goes back to his roots! Nearly 12 years after walking off the job as a law enforcement officer Savage Dragon rejoins the Chicago Police Department. It's a great jumping on point for new readers and old, and it helps pave the way for IMAGE UNITED. The Vicious Circle is reborn and Captain Frank Darling turns to the one man he knows can get the job done: The Dragon! It's history in the making, boys and girls! This issue of SAVAGE DRAGON comes with our highest possible recommendation!

Featuring an appearance by, and an alternate cover featuring, President-Elect Barack Obama.

You have every issue? I use to collect this series but lost track of the story.
Did they ever go into his origin?

Savage dragon...now there's a name I haven't heard in a long, long time- too long.

I used to have an action figure of him when I was a little girl- played house with him- he was sometimes my Barbie's husband ( Wasn't there an old animated series for him?)

Greeeeeeeeat issue. I'm really really impressed.

WoW!!! I never read any issues of the Savage Dragon before. I knew about them but never had the interest in reading them. After reading this free online issue, I was very impressed. I think I will check out some back issues and maybe read up on some newer ones when they come out.

I always loved reading Savage Dragon, the art is clean and colorful. However the artist I notice uses alot of "fillers"...alot of un-needed drawings to make a whole page and make the comic longer...don't get me wrong it tells the story nice...almost Quintin Tarintino* style...but just isn't quit long enoug for my taste buds!..Wanna see some sweet comic art?? Check out my drawings in my picture section on my myspace!!!

Dragon was of my all time favs. The thought that a Super hero would be a cop is a great idea.

Erik Larsen is the whole reason i do what i do. I've been creating comics since '95 and there isn't a day that goes by that i don't draw inspiration from his work or learn something through his example. He made a promise to his fans when he started TSD that he would be the only penciler to draw this title...and despite and besides everything else he's done over the years, he has stayed true to his word.
I can't wait until "back in blue" comes out!
