I was reading today Dave Winer's blog (like I've been doing over the past 8 or so years), and he said that he saw the light with the Blackberry: It works for reading news.
I actually also saw that specific lantern, a little earlier than that. It was last month, and I had the benefit of the war. As they say, necessity is the mother of invention.
So I had just landed in Cyprus, and I needed my fix of war coverage. After all, when we were under the Israeli airplanes a few days earlier, the TVs were running 24/7.
But where I was, what are you going to do in the evening, around a bottle of whiskey? Do what middle easterners do best: talk politics. But today isn't like 25 years ago when we were all huddled around the AM radio. Enter the Blackberry! I got decent GPRS coverage in Cyprus, so the Blackberry became THE news source. Up-to-the-minute. I can't tell you how many times I went to the Haaretz news flash page, or the NaharNet page. In the span of a few weeks, probably 150 times a day.

So I can confidently tell you, the Blackberry works for reading news.

And when someone is telling you that the tallest mountain in Cyprus is taller than the Lebanese high point (3,070m), you can call their bullshit by a quick trip to Google on the Blackberry.
