Saturday, November 17, 2007
A week after our wedding in Mexico, we had a fab reception back in Hutchinson, Kansas (near where we both grew up) at the Domestic Arts Building on the Kansas State Fairgrounds...lovingly dubbed "Fiesta on the Prairie" by me (most photos by Morgan Miller):

The best part about our reception was that it was such a creative grassroots effort...many of our friends and family members donated their time and talents to make it more of a personal affair, rather then your standard "reception-from-a-box" (the follow up kit to "wedding-from-a-box)!

Jan (Jacob's mom) and I made 250 cupcakes for our cupcake wedding cake:

Iva helped me cut branches from the wood-pile for our lovely centerpieces:

I had a great rotating group of helpers slaving away on my tissue paper flowers for the centerpieces, and large tissue paper poufs for above the dance floor...ala Martha Stewart-style:

Our centerpieces, which cost a grand total of 80 cents a piece (for the tissue paper)!!! I had collected the syrup bottles from Java Junction since April, and found the canning jars for the candles in a closet at my Mom's:

Morgan, Loren, Skarlett, and Katharine donated their time with the details, such as garnishing the cupcakes, and setting up our guestbook photobooth!

Our cake was the best!!!! Jacob built and painted the stand, and our friend Earlene bought flowers for the vase that I got in Mexico a few years ago:

When our lovely decorative poufs were ripped down from above the dance floor (ahem, Pete...), the party had just begun:

Thankfully, Pete redeemed himself by mopping up the floor:

If I begged, would you write a "how-to" on those big ol' poofs? I'd love to feature it on offbeatbride.com! Email me. :)

Hi, I also found a link to your page while researching wedding decor ideas. I would love to know how you made those huge paper flowers that you hung above the dance floor. ernk04@yahoo.com.

I love LOVE LOVE your stick and tissue paper centerpieces! So Striking and beautiful! Could you tell me, did you use the same template as the big poufs that hung from the ceiling, or was there another template from Martha that you had to buy?

a Bride on a Budget would LOVE your help!!

Congrats on the wedding, it looked like a blast!

Yup!  The small and the large are made exactly the same way, just with different size papers...you can easily experiment with all sizes!  Good luck!
