THE SMASHING PUMPKINS TO DEBUT NEW SINGLE "G.L.O.W." AS PART OF DOWNLOADABLE SONGPACK EXCLUSIVELY FOR GUITAR HERO(R) WORLD TOUR

In-Game Model of Vocalist and Lead Guitarist, Billy Corgan, and "Today" from Four Times-Platinum Album Siamese Dream To Rock On-Disc at Launch

Santa Monica, CA - September 2, 2008 - The Smashing Pumpkins, one of rock's defining and most acclaimed bands who've sold over 30 million albums, is coming to Activision Publishing, Inc.'s (Nasdaq: ATVI) Guitar Hero(R) World Tour in a ground-breaking way as the band will debut their new single "G.L.O.W." exclusively in the game. This marks the first time a band has recorded a new song exclusively for the franchise which will be released afterwards, giving Guitar Hero(R) fans exclusive access to Smashing Pumpkins music before anyone else. The new track, bundled with two other rocking Smashing Pumpkins hits, "1979" and "The Everlasting Gaze," will be available post-launch of the game as a three-song downloaded content pack.

Additionally, on-disc with the release of Guitar Hero World Tour this fall, The Smashing Pumpkins' singer, songwriter and lead guitarist Billy Corgan will appear as an in-game character and will bring with him "Today," the band's smash hit from their pivotal and four-times platinum 1993 album Siamese Dream. "Today" is one of the band's many hits that have defined the alternative music era and continue to resonate on modern rock radio, influencing a whole new generation. Players will be able to experience the unique alternative rocker's likeness in-game as he sings and shreds on guitar, or play as the revered rock star throughout their vocal and axe careers.

When the house lights go down this fall, a new generation of guitarists, drummers and fearless frontmen will come together and rock with Guitar Hero World Tour. The latest installment in the 1 best-selling video game franchise of 2007, Guitar Hero World Tour transforms music gaming by expanding Guitar Hero's signature guitar gameplay into a cooperative band experience that combines the most advanced wireless controllers with new revolutionary online* and offline gameplay modes including Band Career and 8-player "Battle of the Bands," which allows two full bands to compete head-to-head online for the first time ever. The game features a slick newly redesigned guitar controller, drum kit controller and a microphone, as well as an innovative Music Studio music creator that lets players compose, record, edit and share their own rock 'n' roll anthems. Music creators will also be able to share their recordings with their friends online through GHTunesSM where other gamers can download and play an endless supply of unique creations.

Guitar Hero World Tour is being developed by Neversoft Entertainment for the Xbox 360(R) video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and PLAYSTATION(R)3 computer entertainment system. The Wii(TM) version is being developed by Vicarious Visions. The PlayStation(R)2 computer entertainment system version is being developed by Budcat. The game is rated "T" for Teen by the ESRB. Urgh. Nauseating. When did you first realise that you sold your souls to Chase-Manhattan, tabloids and mediocrity? Please just fade away and cease pissing on your previous glory.

Pumpkins puttin their name on the map even more how can you no-fan losers say any thing if you dont like the band for the beautiful music they make and dont worry about how they make the money thats helps them eat and clothe themselfs with and worry about which arm you cut yer self on tonite

i dunno about that. the more bands as big as the pumpkins do stuff like this, the more the music industry is able to move away from its outdated business model, which will multiply the channels through which we can discover music, and the more channels we have, the more the scene will open up to a lot of other bands we may not have ever heard.

they sold their souls long ago and considering the fact everyone does when the opportunity arises who are you to judge them? and if you were a true fan you wouldn't judge them for the fact their getting old and need to keep making money - but you would judge them for the quality of music they are making - which hasnt fucking changed...shame on you

uhh... what? how does it suck? you're getting a new song. even if you don't get the game, the song will still be available. and if you mean that the band's selling out, then you clearly don't understand how people make money.

Well, it's kind of annoying that Guitar Hero fans get to listen to the song before Smashing Pumpkins fans get to.

damn. you're pretty harsh. It's going to be on guitar hero before it is released in any other format and many people don't listen to the radio.

but anyways you all need to chill out and realize that anyone else's opinion on this matter is just as valid as your own. :)

Obviously you don't own your own business and you are not a professional musician because in the music BUSINESS you make money or you don't make a living. It is only a sellout if you produce music you wouldn't otherwise in order to sell product. Otherwise it is merely another marketing tool which businesses have to embrace in order to survive. Is it a sellout to market band T-shirts? Or posters? Maybe just being on a major label is a sellout? You shouldn't criticize when you don't know what you are talking about.

cuz guitar hero's better! who wants to play Jimmy's drums on a 5-piece when they can use GH's more versatile, pressure-sensitive 6-piece drumkit?

3 words:

Ion Drum Rocker.

besides that, the only difference between the GH and RB standard drum kits is one cymbal.

all in all, i would much rather play a Harmonix coded "1979" than a Neversoft one.

i like guitar hero... but i don't like smashing pumpkins doing this sort of thing, specially because the guitar hero reputation has suffered a lot amongst the gaming community since guitar hero 3 was released. rock band would have been a much better choice. still, i think none of these games would have been the right choice. anyway, this is not the first time the pumpkins appear on a videogame (anyone remembers that old psx shoot 'em up game starring bruce willis?).

"I’m 38 years old and there’s not a real cozy road. There’s sort of the sell-out road that’s presented to you, which is, you know, re-hash the old hits, put your songs in commercials, go out on the big corporate-sponsored tour and get everybody’s lighters in the air." - Billy Corgan, speaking on The Future Embrace

FUCK YEAH!!!! It's about time Guitar Hero and/or Rock Band start showing the proper respect to the greatest band in the world! I appreciate the occasional downloads, but we need more. Aerosmith got their own game, now I want to see Guitar Hero: Smashing Pumpkins. This is the best day ever! Can't wait to hear G.L.O.W.
