So FINALLY things are becomming more, relaxed and things are starting to become more settled ive been working on a bunch of stuff lately crazy busy. NBC launches a website tomorrow that i will take a massive part in by creating videos for the site etc. The site is going to be awesome like 80 million times better than youtube which sadly ... has become nothing more than a quite crappy boring video blogging site its quite a shame. But this site www.ItsYourShowTv.com what it is is i create contest ideas with nbc and then i make videos for those contests showing people examples of what nbc wants . i also have my own colomn where i get to review users videos that will be awesome =)So if you like filming or watchng ACTUAL videos and not just bla bla bla videos blogs then i think you will like this site too its like what youtube USED to be like

oh and did i forget to mention...prizes ! money ! the videos that win the contests get stuff !!

so yeah im hoping this site will all work out and all , already its better than youtube because there are actually PEOPLE behind the makings of this site running it and maintaining a steady environment for the users unlike youtube where there really is no one running it at all...at this point youtube would be better off if it was run by a bunch of monkeys ... i mean its better than no one at all .

Also i need ideas

as you may or may not have known i am an avid animal lover and i want to do something to help them and use the power of film and the internet. Back in the day when i first signed up for youtube i did something similar by hosting videos from PETA on my site but they got taken down. I was thinking of maybe doing something like filimg at my local shelter every week but its a no kill shelter so even tho those animals are in need i think they are getting adopted pretty rapidly without my help. So any ideas ? something preferably in massachusetts would be nice so i can drive there and film

you know you could still actually make an even cooler vid without a camera..the best videos are made with limited resources because the people making them have to be REALLY creative and they usually turn out very different and unique. Do you have a camera camera like a digital camera you could always do a stop motion with pictures and cool music =)

Never knew you thought about YouTube in that way, that's interesting, and interestingly true.

I hope the new site whatever it is works fantastically and gets billions of hits etc etc whatever.

Have fun with it all.

i know its funny people think i am addicted/ in love with that site or something just because i was "founded" there. Thats not the case....if carson saw me first at ebaums world just because one of my videos was there doesnt mean i would like ebaums world you know ... i highly dislike that site as well lol . ITs funny because people always come to me with the hottest youtube news and gossip and i am clueless as to who the heck and what the heck they are talking about i dont follow all that stuff. I dont really use the site anymore its just liike it was in the old days now when i first started i put my videos up mainly ( i dont mean to sound conciected) but for myself i enjoy making these i really do and if they make other people happy to then great but other than that youtube is just an easy way to share them so all my friends can see them too .

Also i am going to be 100% honest i could and would disable all my comments and make all my videos unlinkable etc just to prove the point that im not on youtube for the attention...but.. i really feel like i would end up kicking myself for doing something that stupid only because i have alot of important things that i want to do and say alot of important messages i would love to get out to people but im not quite sure how to yet....i also dont think that right now it would be so smart of me to stir up some foggy water  with the contract and all this media attention.....i am hoping things will simmer down further more and maybe in a few more weeks maybe a month or so i can really start putting all this attention to some good use and helping some people out ....like the animal shelter thing i mention in another comment i would really love to put together weekly videos of animals in need of adoption but i need to think more of what place or organization to support before i jump into that idea

Nobody at YouTube (human or monkey) is doing anything to encourage excellence, is it any surprise that the content isn't exciting? Somehow I don't think that five minute facial-closeup monologues without editing will get very far on the IYS site.

Everything that's come to you is because of your creativity and skill. Many of the "fans" who initially lifted you up will try to rip you down simply because you're being rewarded for your efforts... it's almost as if they want to keep you poor yet still producing stuff for them. Reality doesn't work like that.

Keep kicking ass, and never apologize for your talent.

yes i can dog youtube if i like its my personal opinion ive been signed up at youtube since the very begining and it was NEVER about video blogging alone it used to have alot more to it. So video blogging isnt my thing , so i dont find it interesting to watch someone blab for ten minutes thats my opinion..but to some people that may be a form of art. All i am saying is in MY eyes youtube has gone down the tube. The site is caos

oh and also...how do you know im making money ???? stop assuming  that just because i work for them means im getting paid the big bucks now...everyone has to start somewhere

also no the site never will be youtube in the sense that hopefully it will be better so yes you are right its nothing like youtube

You are correct if it was your "personal" opinion, but it isn't. You are a company spokesperson towing the company line. You know as well as everyone else you wouldn't be anywhere without YouTube and you would still be there right now if it wasn't for a one in a million lucky break.

I wish you luck but I only give you about 6 months. Skit comedy such as yours is not exactly at the top of the heap now days.

Of course not...that requires Creativity, and also requires you to assume that there's an intelligent life form on the other side of that TV Screen or computer monitor; much easier and cheaper to do a "Reality" Show...it requires no scriptwriters, no Fabulously Overpaid TV Stars...just Star Wannabees.   After all, what are the Reality Stars of seasons past doing now?

Colleen Haskell parlayed her Survivor: Malaysia fame into a love-interest role in "The Animal" with Rob Schneider ([**sarcastic roll of eyes**] Wooooo! ), then from there to "The Michael Essany Show" on E! as an assistant producer...it ran from 2003 to...well, 2003.

And truthfully...does anyone even CARE about "Johnny Fairplay" anymore?

BUT, brookers, that's the whole good ole point about YouTube,  it was made for the people, by the people.  It's renegade, in a sense, and that's why the majority of the public like it.  I personally would never invest that much time or pay attention to some large corporation-backed product.
But hey, so who cares even if some people think you've sold out (which you have actually), you're still right, you have to start somewhere.
I just don't agree with the way you're going about bashing and slandering YouTube though.  It's okay to not want to be with one group anymore and to promote another, but to say nasty things about a place which basically helped you get where you are is not professional or even ethical.  Try this, instead of saying negative things about it, why not try and make it better?  Oh wait, you can't now because it's your competition.  Ok, keep bashing it then, I guess!

You've been trying to draw a distinction between videoblogging and videography for a long time. I think it's a line that should be drawn, and I'm glad that now, with this new website, you have a bigger tool to draw it with. I'd been planning to post videos on YouTube sometime this fall, but maybe I'll follow you to this new site.

If you're looking for animals that need adoption as pets, there are always the greyhounds that can no longer dograce (there's still dog racing in Wonderland, Massachusetts, and a lot of concern about what happens to the dogs there). Boston is full, too, of organizations that rescue animals, and need help. I once had a neighbor who was involved in Rabbit Rescue; she personally kept 30 "bunnies" in her apartment. If you want to do an expose, you could always explore where Jello comes from .... Are you interested in the local wildlife?

As an aside, your mayo video reminded me of Andy Warhol's soup cans, but in video form and set to Benny Hill music. Price Chopper Real Irony!

also its GREAT to see that you can appreciate the saticial humor and the irony in my mayo video ...alot of people just got pissed off and said they hated my movies now because they were begining to suck and its funny because thats exactly the reaction i expected from alot of people haha. Only the ones with more than half a functioning brain can understand the humor in this video and you are apparently one of them =) or maybe you and i are simply both insane...insane genius ??? no maybe just crazy !!

Brooke, I'm sure you've "been prepared" for comments like this and will have been told that it stems from nothing other than jealousy.  I doubt you're going to take it on board and you're probably going to hate me for saying it, but I like and respect you and I feel that somebody has to try.  It's all now falling into place and I can see that you are being used.  Big Time.

Do you believe that you were offered this TV contract because they watched thousands of YouTube videos and decided that yours were the most entertaining and that you were the most creative and talented producer of amateur videos?

I'm going to quote somebody else here because he worded it much more succinctly than I could, however he wishes to remain anonymous:-

"ah ha!" says they. "look at youtube's profit margin.... why they seem to have something... this social networking thing has caught on!!" they decide they want to build a profitable social networking site too! "uh oh" says they. "youtube has a massive user base and getting them to convert will be impossible" but wait.... "let us find an incentive for the userbase of youtube to convert to our site.... let us find an icon that is trusted by them that is well known who can be our spokes person to the community!!!" ah ha.... "lets get brookers"

there was no "oh brookers is cute and talented!"

there was only "the userbase of youtube trusts brookers and knows her so if we want the userbase of youtube we must use her and get her to endorse our product"

they don't care about her... or love her...... they are a corporation whose purpose is to make top dollar

i shiver at the day when brooker chat has gone out of control beyond repair and we speak of brooke the fallen penguin

You always come across to me as being intelligent and perceptive and I only hope that you can understand that you mean less to NBC than a pawn in a massive financial game of chess.  I hope that you can see where things will lead and that you are prepared for this.  If anyone can survive and come out on top, then I guess you can - but only if you're eyes are wide open.  Maybe your eyes already are wide open and you're not wearing rose-tinted spectacles, in which case I've just spent ten minutes of my time typing for no reason.

Gawsh darnit!  Now I've typed it all out, I'm not sure whether I have the courage to hit the "Post" button.  I'm not sure why this should be difficult to do - I guess I'm afraid that you will dislike what I've said and in turn dislike me.

I've made a decision.  I'm gonna post.  I will feel hurt if you dislike me, but you are in a position where you could be seriously shafted and if I see that happen and know I did nothing, I will feel a whole lot worse.

The bob who is really greg

Paul,

This is Greg, by the way. I don't have a real Myspace account, but I use this dummy one sometimes so that I can log in and read comments, see pictures, etc.

I don't think Brooke will dislike you for posting this. You guys may not be the best of friends, but I think she knows that you care about her, and that you just generally aren't an asshole. She's a smart kid, and I think she'll be able to tell the difference between someone who's hating and someone that's just concerned about her.

That said, I must disagree with the general point that you're making. Of course NBC wants to make money with their show - most everyone wants to make money - we live in a capitalist society (duh, you already knew that, but hey). And of course, Carson found her, at least in part, because she's popular. If Brooke's videos weren't on the "most viewed" lists, and not linked to from tons of other places on the web, he probably would never have seen them. But Brooke got popular to begin with because she IS an awsome videographer, and because she has some awsome creative ideas that she had the balls to actually put on video and show to the world. And there are plenty of other "popular" people on Youtube, and Brooke wasn't even the "number one" youtuber before Carson contacted her. So, I DO think that he picked her for her talent - even though of course her popularity played some part in it.

Also, while some people (even lots of people) working in the entertainment business, like any business, might be cynical, money-grubbing etc., lets not overlook the fact that most of them probably got into the business to begin with because they actually wanted to be creative and to entertain people. Hopefully, Brooke will have an opportunity to work with some people who do actually care about producing something entertaining, or even profound, or just comical, but at least something original that we can actually watch and enjoy.

I guess our perspectives are maybe just different on this, for whatever reason. Like you (and lots of other people that Brooke has become friends with online during this weird adventure), I'm always a bit worried about her, and about how this whole thing will turn out, but my initial reaction to reading Brooke's post was still "yay!" and not "oh shit, watch out." Of course Brooke needs to go into this with her eyes open, but I'm confident that she'll come out of this ok. And think about it this way - even if Brooke doesn't make a ton of money from this particular show, she still get to do what she wanted to do in the beginning, which is to share her ideas and her vision with people, and now she'll be able to do it on a larger scale, and she'll get to meet people and do things that can propel her on to other, bigger opportunities. She'll actually be doing what she wants to do, which has to beat working in a restaurant or as a receptionist, even if she doensn't get rich. If NBC happens to make an asston of money while she's doing that, good for them - Brooke will still come out ok.

And Brooke, if you've read down this far, congrats. And I know you won't hate Paul for saying what he said - you're smart enough to recognize that he's just looking out for you, and to know that what he said above has nothing to do with the kind of bullshit that some of your haters might say, even if you don't agree with him. I know that you'll make a BIG impression on the world in some way, through this opportunity or through doing something completely different.

-Greg

Greg I never said, or meant to imply that Brooke wasn't talented - she is exceedingly so.  I just feel that there may be something amiss here.

1. YouTube gets popular and starts making big money.

2. Big TV corporation sign one of the most popular (and most talented) videographers.

3. Big TV corporation publicises how wonderful they are for doing this.

4. Big TV corporation signs deal with YouTube.

5. Big TV corporation publicises deal with YouTube and states that they think YouTube is wonderful.

6. Big TV corporation launches rival site to YouTube.

7. Young, popular talented videographer given major role in rival site and tells fans how much better than YouTube this will be.

8. (next step) Big TV corporation takes many YouTube subscribers away from YouTube because of their adoration of young, popular talented vieographer.

9. ...........???????

I'm sure that Brooke genuinely believes that the new site will be everything that she says it will, and if Brooke has enough control over what happens, then it almost certainly will be.  I have every intention of checking it out and maybe even uploading a couple of my videos (but not the bla bla bla video blog one :).  I do not question Brooke's motivation or integrity one little bit.  I just can't help thinking that NBC have planned to stab Chad Hurley in the back right from the beginning and that they are using Brooke as the dagger.

Brooke is a strong and resiliant person and I really do hope that she is able to maintain her profitable status with NBC so they don't drop her, or at the very least use them as a stepping stone to bigger and brighter things.  I agree with you that it is overall a good thing that Brooke has the opportunity to do something that she loves and is exceedingly good at.

Oh yes, Greg, my first reaction to reading Brooke's post was also "yay!", it was a little while later when I had thought about it that the "oh shit, watch out" came to me.

Actually, it seems just as likely to me that NBC is trying to generate some synergy by signing their deal with Youtube while launching their own website. From the way Brooke described it, the new site will be offering something substantially different from Youtube, in that there will be some editorial control over the content, rather than a complete free-for-all. These here internets are a big place, and there is almost certainly room for both types of site. The genius and the downfall of Youtube is the total lack of editorial control - it's great that people can post almost anything, and tons of it, but at the same time this leads to tons of useless, boring crap being posted along with the few diamonds.

The new site will actually be putting the submitted videos into some type of context, and actively sorting through them to determine which are best. It really is a different type of thing. By partnering with Youtube and opening this new site at the same time, and by bringing in someone like Brooke, the NBC people are hoping to capture the "buzz" from youtube, but not necessarily destroy it. And yes, getting Brooke involved does give them credibility with the existing audience for internet video shorts, but that's a good thing for everyone involved. If people like the new site, they will figure out that Brooke got her start at Youtube, and they will be more likely to visit Youtube or post videos there themselves, even if they are also using the new site and posting videos there in response to the specific topics that are solicited. More interest in internet video is good for all of the internet video sites.

Of course, it's also fun to imagine Brooke as the dagger that kills Youtube, but it's just as likely that she'll be the dove that brings peace and joy to all of the internet. Or maybe she'll just post some videos with funny noises. One or the other.
