Last week, I came down with a throat infection -- bad enough that I had to call off from work on Saturday (28 July) and Tuesday (31 July). I went to the local Lovelace office on Monday (30 July), where I made an appointment and was seen that same day. (I say this in sharp contrast with the Canadian "single-payer" system that Michael Moore champions with his recent "documentary" titled Sicko* -- in Canada, I would've been put on some kind of waiting list and been seen whenever the system's administrators felt like it.)

While waiting to see the doctor, I learned that the health insurance that I was paying for through payroll deductions at work had been lost, so I paid cash -- something that's illegal in Canada.

So I went to see the doc, and she prescribed me ten days' worth of amoxicillin. That worked out pretty well, until last Tuesday (7 August). That night, I literally blew up with red-colored hives all over -- kind of like a body-wide case of poison ivy. In response to the rash and itching, I've been taking generic Benadryl (diphenhydramine hydrochloride) like candy, and it's helping a good bit.

So now I'm apparently one of the "45 million without health insurance." So be it.

Letter to the editor of the Albuquerque Journal by Consumer Advocate Bill Koehler, published 13 August 2007 --

Socialist Scheme Sure to Fail

Governor Richardson's socialist health care ideas bring up a few questions.

He has taken an oath to support and defend the Constitution but his health care plan will clearly violate the religious freedom of those who don't want health care, such as Jehovah's Witnesses and others.

He also fails to tell us how he will control the increased demand that free care will create. This is the reason that socialist health care always fails. Free health care is so expensive that it must be rationed like they do in Canada and England and every where else. The problem with free is that the demand always consumes the entire supply.

Beware of any politician promising you pie in the sky, he's going to bake it with your dough. Sorry governor, there is no Santa Claus who will pay for your silly socialist schemes.
