Last week, I came down with a throat infection -- bad enough that I had to call off from work on Saturday (28 July) and Tuesday (31 July). I went to the local Lovelace office on Monday (30 July), where I made an appointment and was seen that same day. (I say this in sharp contrast with the Canadian "single-payer" system that Michael Moore champions with his recent "documentary" titled Sicko* -- in Canada, I would've been put on some kind of waiting list and been seen whenever the system's administrators felt like it.)While waiting to see the doctor, I learned that the health insurance that I was paying for through payroll deductions at work had been lost, so I paid cash -- something that's illegal in Canada. So I went to see the doc, and she prescribed me ten days' worth of amoxicillin. That worked out pretty well, until last Tuesday (7 August). That night, I literally blew up with red-colored hives all over -- kind of like a body-wide case of poison ivy. In response to the rash and itching, I've been taking generic Benadryl (diphenhydramine hydrochloride) like candy, and it's helping a good bit. So now I'm apparently one of the "45 million without health insurance." So be it. * "Sicko" -- Heavily Doctored by Kurt Loder
