Exciting News - the reviews are in!
"It's refreshingly evenhanded in examining the lives of the young women—all soulfully portrayed by an earnest young cast—, as well as the factory bosses' crises of conscience. ...if Point of Contention can do the same in the future... the budding troupe could have radial glow" -- TIme Out Chicago
"It is a genuine theatrical gift. Do not miss the opportunity to experience this deceptively spellbinding, unique and wonderful production." -- Gay Chicago Magazine

THE SHOW:
Based on the harrowing true story of New Jersey's famous "radium girls," the play follows the lives of female factory workers in the 1920s. Point of Contention presents the Chicago premiere of this riveting piece that raises the question "When something proves too good to be true, is it best to look the other way?" Radium, recently discovered by the Curies, was believed to be a wonder drug, the cure for all ailments. A side bonus? Anything painted with radium glowed in the dark, a valuable asset in times of war. But what happens when the girls fall ill and their teeth begin to fall out? And why do their dresses glow at night?
THE PLAYWRIGHT:
Playwright D.W. Gregory is a resident playwright at New Jersey Repertory Co., where her Pulitzer Prize-nominated drama The Good Daughter recently premiered. Gregory is the author of five other full-length plays and several short comedies that have been widely produced. Her work has been developed at the New Harmony Project, The Shenandoah International Playwrights Retreat, and the Mount Sequoyah New Play Retreat. Her drama Radium Girls was produced with a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts and developed under The Ensemble Studio Theatre/Alfred P. Sloan Science and Technology Fund.
