To paraphrase the poet Peter Schjeldahl,"Nostalgia for Almost" is "warm and inconvenient like a sweater your grandmother gave you with no hole for the head to come out of."
Have you ever woken from a dream feeling like you'd dropped from a sweet bubble of the real world into a shadow play of repetition, yet you couldn't quite remember all the closing doors that just evaporated behind you? Felt for a few sweet fleeting moments that you could simply run fairly fast, flap your arms and fly? Remembered doing this on many past occasions? Walked the shifting Baltimore streets sensing something right on the periphery of your third eye, some kind of parallel world that's dogged you all your life, where a different version of yourself lives with a whole different compartment of memories?
The Artists:
Blaster Al Ackerman, Lauren Bender, Scott Larson, Dan Breen, Natasha Tylea Cooke, Bow-Legged Gorilla, Erin Womak, Chris Toll, Ric Royer, Gerald Ross, Jerome Deppe, Scott Pittman, Bethany Dinsick, Martha Simons, Lesly Deschler Canossi, Miriam Stewart, Lauren Ross, Raissa Contreras...
THE OPENING

Scotty of the Sowebo Arts Gallery and Chong of the East Side Warlords before the opening.

Ric Royer gets a jump start on making "The Jolly Roger" before the doors open.

Natasha Tylea Cooke and her family prepare her piece, "The Memory Cabinet".

Oh how I curse this new Olympus digital camera. I should have taken my reliable old school Olympus Ecru given to me the fateful day I turned 40.

The intelligentsia arrives!

Wall o' Bender! The "Fear In the Home" series.

My piece.

A fantastical wall of Dan Breen.

Professor Breen explains.

The crowds came, ideas and opinions flared,
one child vomited (away from the art), one piece sold,
nothing was broken, the police were not called, gallery man
Scotty can return to his domicile to dream of cowgirls.
