I just returned from above mentioned gig. The band was named "Serendipity 18 big band". Led by trumpeter Masashi Sugiyama, who studied with late great Claude Gordon for long time and very close friend with Bob. As name of the band shows, this band plays Bob's chart most exclusively with complete format (Contra-Alto Clarinet!).
Though I had played in a section of the band many times, I was a featured soloist tonight.
It's fun to play Bob's "Tell Your Story" with such a gorgeous band.
I had played Bob's chart from written for Dave Pell Octet in early 60s to recent big band chart of his limited edition. Whenever I play his chart, It reminds me of some architectures designed by Buckminster Fuller. Anyway, I really enjoyed playing his music.
